I'm making this list by testing out all the CF1 combos and editing them to work in CF2 (mostly Star Gazer combos now use Infinite Rush), crossing them out if they don't translate to CF2 (RIP midscreen 6C), and/or adding new ones. I don't plan on adding many until I've updated the existing list, so for now it will mostly be old stuff. I'll leave the CF1 topic up so it can be cross-referenced with this one since the combos will be mostly in the same order. If a mod wants to start a better thread, just move this post over to it. I'm working on my giant combo list like I did for CPEX, but I'm going to need time to get it fully fleshed out. For now, I'll start this thread off with my findings for midscreen and corner combos with the usual starters (no 2B starters because I'm lazy, no Throws yet, no OD, no RCs, almost no CTs, just simple stuff). After this set, I'll get combos off of throws, then combos when Near Corner, then Counter/Fatal combos, then OD combos.

As I did with my previous list, multiple ways to end combos (e.g. Orb Oki, full damage end, super end, etc) are listed between ()'s  and separated by /'s. The damage and heat gain of all combos is listed at the end and combos with multiple enders have the different damage and heat separated by /'s as well. Not all the combos are optimal, and many are redundant and/or inferior to others listed near them. This is simply a list of everything I bothered to try, notice worked, and felt like writing down. Edit: I found the 5B>5C>6C>236A~D(1) corner combo route and thought the 236A~D(2) route didn't work (on Jin it shoots you away). I didn't realize that the lvl 2 route worked on other characters OR that you could get even more damage from it by waiting a few frames until I saw a video of it. When I saw how it worked on Jin I instantly stopped trying. I went back and re-did the lvl 1 route with the lvl 2 version and updated the damage and heat numbers (decent upgrade across the board). I'll try to explore the combo route more later and see if I can get anymore out of it.

Makoto is a character who is easy to mistake for having a more simple and standard mixup and pressure structure. However, Asteroid vision and it's followups gives her a lot of freedom to compliment her basic options in ways that will keep her opponents guessing and can make her very hard to deal with once she pins you down.

Sirius Jolt (41236C)
Makoto's new special in CF that's unblockable unless you crouch block it. You'll typically see it used in situations where you would expect the opponent to stand up to block 6B. It has a slow startup though and can be mashed out of so be careful.
 
Comet Cannon (236A)
A great oki tool in the corner. More on this after we finish covering all the tools
 
Asteroid Vision A > Brake (214A~A)
One of many good options for resetting pressure when your opponent isn't expecting it.
 
Asteroid Vision B > j.D (214B > j.D)
Good for resetting pressure because of the frame advantage you'll get from doing level 3 j.D so low. The blocked j.D will cause some pushback though before landing so prepare to adjust accordingly
 
Lander Blow (214A~CC~D)
Level 3 Lander Blow is pretty plus on block and is a good way to reset pressure. It does have a good amount of startup though so to prevent getting mashed out of it, be sure to vary your pressure well so that your opponent doesn't expect it
 
Cosmic Ray (214A~D)
Another good option for resetting pressure. Compared to your other options, Cosmic Ray is good when you're midscreen since your opponent's additional options to escape makes it hard to reset pressure comfortably after 214B > j.D and Level 3 Lander Blow midscreen. It can also be a good option in the corner when you've been pushed out a bit far

Comet Cannon Oki
 
 
Because of the increase in Comet Cannon's size when you let it grow, it's become an especially good oki tool in the corner. It'll catch rolls and no techs and it'll meaty the opponent to put them into blockstun before you start your pressure, allowing you to easily bait reversals. The size of the orb also makes it hard to see what mixup Makoto is going for now.
 
 
Setting up Comet Cannon Oki
 
As mentioned previously, Comet Cannon oki is a corner only oki tool and can be set up at the end of most of Makoto's corner combos. One important thing to keep in mind though is that you need to be sure to take into account what combo you're doing while preparing to set up Comet Cannon oki. Most corner combos will push you out enough that you'll need to do a microdash 236A in order for the Comet Cannon to be properly on top of them. However, some combos ending in air Corona Upper don't require the microdash.

Overview
 

Makoto's neutral revolves around playing a very precise footsies game. Really good movement and well spaced pokes are the cornerstone of her path to success but she also has tools like Comet Cannon and Asteroid Vision to help her out as well.


Footsies
 
 
Makoto doesn't have much range on her normals so you're going to have to focus a lot on the way you move with this character. Luckily, Makoto is one of the faster characters in the game and she can cover ground quickly. When combined with the right movement, it's going to be very useful in closing the gap between you and your opponent. 
 
Dash > barrier brake
Dash barrier brake is an all around good movement option to have as Makoto. If you just dash in and try to go for pokes, a lot of the times you're going to get poked out of it on reaction. Instead, you should try and work in dashing towards your opponent and breaking with barrier block so you end up just before an opponent's maximum reach.

Dash > Jump forward Barrier (> Double jump forward Barrier)
This one naturally synergizes with the above movement option. This movement option aims primarily to create whiff punish opportunities against people trying to poke you out of dashing in from the ground. 
 
Additionally, dash > jump forward barrier can also sometimes just put you in situations where you can open up the opponent or get in on them with a falling j.C. It's a nice low risk option that gives you many benefits

Dash > Jump forward Barrier > Air backdash retreat
While jump forward barrier can lead to many good situations, sometimes you'll jump forward barrier and it'll risk putting you in a bad situation. If you can recognize these situations as you are in the air from the jump forward, you can air backdash to keep yourself in a good position

Short dash > stop or jump up barrier
This is a movement tactic that's somewhere in the middle of dash > barrier brake and dash > jump forward barrier. Doing a short dash and suddenly stopping is good for making it harder for your opponent to react when you really do dash in for a poke. On the other hand, Short dash and neutral jump barrier aims to whiff punish opponents trying to approach you. In both cases, there's little risk and little ground given up in comparison to dash > barrier brake and dash > jump forward barrier.
 
Dash 2A
Finally time to attack! 2A is great because it's fast, making it easier to beat an opponent trying to outpoke, and has little recovery.

Has slightly more range than 5A and 2A so it's not too bad to use as a poke sometimes

j.2C to beat AAs
In the event that you find yourself directly above an opponent and are in danger of getting anti-aired, you can use j.2C to beat an anti-air. j.2C briefly stalls Makoto's fall and can mess up an opponent's timing, allowing you to not only dodge the anti-air but also punish the whiff recovery of the anti-air.

Comet Cannon and Break Shot
 
 
New in CF, Comet Cannon will now grow considerably in size when you leave it alone for a while. This has 2 great applications
 
Hindering Approaches with Comet Cannon
 
If you leave Comet Cannon to grow and don't fire it, it'll just sit in front of you in its giant state with plenty of active frames. This is really good at creating an impassable wall between you and your opponent from the ground level, which is great against rushdown characters. It's especially great against characters with specials or drives where they can rush forward at you quickly like Azrael's Gustav, Valk's Wolf movement, Taokaka's drive, etc.

Controlling Space with Break Shot

As you also might've imagined, the new giant orb is even better at stopping people from freely doing stuff on the ground when Makoto punches it across the screen as a followup. This can give your opponent extra incentive to be more cautious in some cases and give them incentive to approach from the air in others. Depending on what you want to accomplish, you'll probably need to adjust the timing on the followup. The quickest possible 236A~D will fire quickly and be better at catching people trying to do things but it'll also be smaller in size since you didn't let it grow. Choose which one you need based on the character you're facing and the objective you wish to accomplish with it.
 
As an added bonus, you can also use Break Shot to partially cover an approach by dashing in behind it. It's not as great as following behind a slower moving projectile like Kagura's Dragon Spirit or Bullet's Flint Shooter but the blockstun of blocking Break Shot does lock the opponent down for a small amount of time, limiting their options for answering your approach when they finally get out of blockstun.

Anti-Zoning
 
If you can get it out, Comet Cannon projectile level is high enough that it can eat some projectiles and keep going

Asteroid Vision
 
 
As you might've imagined from a special with as much utility as Asteroid Vision, Asteroid Vision gives Makoto 2 good options in neutral that can be very helpful for closing the gap between you and your opponent.
 
Well Spaced 214C > j.C
 
When well spaced, the C variation of Asteroid Vision can be a great way to jump in at the opponent because of the arc she travels.

Well Spaced Cosmic Ray
 
At closer ranges and well spaced, Cosmic Ray Level 3 can be a great way to close the gap. This is partially because of the distance it travels and the frame advantage it'll leave you at on block to start pressure. However, it's also because Cosmic Ray has the ability to force Fatal Counter on counter hit and convert into a full combo, making it even more rewarding on hit if you managed to hit an opponent out of doing something.

Do note, that there's heavy emphasis on the well spaced part. On whiff, Cosmic Ray is easy prey to whiff punishing so make sure to get the spacing right. Also, you'll want to aim for times when you expect your opponent to stay on the ground since an opponent jumping over Cosmic Ray can be problematic for the same reason as not properly spacing it.

As one of the few jump normals in the game that hits above the characters, Makoto's j.B can be great for hitting opponents higher up than you and in what would usually be hard to reach places like super jump height.

Starters and description:

Normals:

2A: Leads to her basic combos.

5A: A less useful version of 2A, can be used to jab people out of air normals.

5B: Fast poke, air unblockable, can be jump cancel only on hit, leads to some of her
stronger combos and can combo to 2C on CH.

5CC: Strong starter, low range, air unblockable, can be jump cancel on hit, can stagger between hits and leads to her stronger combos. Can combo to 2C on CH 5C

2B: Her go to low normal

6A: Anti-air, can be jump cancel on hit or block, and leads to air combos or 2D/5D.

6B~C: Overhead, leads to some of her stronger combos, causes juggle on air hit. 6B~6A also works and is more safe than auto confirming into ~C.

6C: Decent poke, can be used after 5B if 5C can't gatling, and can be combo'd off of with 5D.

3C: Low, slow start up, can be combo of with 2B.

2C: Can cause Fatal status, slow start up, low.

j.A: Quick air jab, can gatling to j.B.

j.B: CH gives a TON of hitstun, normal hit also have decent hitstun. Can be used into self, canceled into j.D or used to side switch.

j.C: Can gatling to j.B after first hit.


j.CC: Raises Makoto hurt box and can be used to mix up between a second air normal, a fall into low or empty grab.

j.2C: LOLOLOLOLOL, (If slows down Makoto's descent and causes stagger on ground hit.


Specials and Drives:

214D: Makoto's new parry, can only parry mids without foot property and grounded OH's. Can be combo into without meter.

623C/j.623C: DP, air unblockable with both versions, used in corner carry combos. If the first hit is used near the peak you can fall faster and make the follow up whiff which can be used to extend a combo.

5D: Causes ground slide, is air unblockable on any level, and can fatal.

2D: Launch the opponent into the air, 2D fatal now works the same as regular hit.

j.D: Causes wall bounce and can fatal.

236A~D: If done without the follow up it can either negate an incoming projectile or tag a hasty opponent.


236D: Has invincibility on juke, can cause fatal status, causes wallbounce in the corner or counter hit.

Astral vision A/B/C: Makoto's illusion special, causes 2 afterimages to support the real ones movement which depends on the version and has follow ups that's only possible during AV. Astral vision B/C can get increased range if done during dash.

214A~A/214A~B: A stop's movement from astral vision A. B allows you to go through opponents.

214B/C~D: Can only be combo'd off of a fatal counter or during OD.

214A~C: Can combo into C~mash or reset pressure

214A~C~A: Overhead, causes hard knockdown on hit.

214A~C~B: Low, can be combo'd off of with 5B.

214A~C~C: C~CCC or C~Mash, can be combo'd off up with rapid cancel.


214A~C~D: Can be combo into on ch level 2-3 or air hit. Level 2 for frame trap after ~C or level 3 for plus frames on block.


214~D: Can only be combo into on ch level 2-3 or air hit in corner. Only level 3 is plus.


236236D: Particle Flare or PF for short, a three part distortion that does more damage with level 3 charges.

632146D: Big Bang Smash or BBS for short, projectile, full charge hit 3/4ths of the screen, can punish other projectiles.

A+B+C+D = Overdrive Galaxian Impact: Makoto changes in this state are the following:

    All of Makoto's Drive moves automatically become Level G, giving them increased damage and faster startup.
    New additional properties are added to her special moves, such as wallbounce properties.
    Big Bang Smash deals increased damage and has less recoevry time.
    Particle Flare has a changed animation on its second hit and increased overall damage.

Buffs:

- 5B has been buffed (unconfirmed).
- 5CC floats differently on air hit so "5B > 5CC" air hit should work alright without compromising combos.
- 2C no longer has SMP.

- 6B > 6A gatling added.

- 6C is now drive cancelable.

- j.2C now can be followed up with any aerial move on either hit or block.

 

- Level 2 and G drive moves are now special cancelable on hit. That includes 5D, 2D and j.D.

- A "Just Damage" feature has been added to her Drive. To put it simply, if you release the D button with the right timing (as soon as the drive meter is completely full), you get bonus damage out of it. Example: 5CC > 5Dlv3 (1408 damage) and 5CC > 5Dlvjust (1459 damage)

- It's easier to get all hits of 214A~CCCCC on air hit.

- 214B air trajectory has changed.
- 214B/C~D now can be followed up on normal hit. if done close enough to the ground you can follow it up meterless (using a RC makes it easier).

- 214A has slower initial speed and accelerates over time.

- 214A~C~A is faster; maybe faster than 6B (unconfirmed); knockdowns on hit; can be followed up with RC.

- Space Counter command changed from 46 to 214D. Now a strike move with guard point throughout most of its duration - does not deal fixed damage; proration is much worse than before; can be followed up on normal hit withouit spending meter (might not be a buff)

- 214A~D now can be used in combos on air hit.

- 236236D now staggers differently on first hit (might not be a buff).

- 632146D has faster startup; longer reach (level 3 goes corner-to-corner); recovery/hitstun good enough to do "632146D > 236236D" as a finisher without needing OD.

 

 

Nerfs:

 

- 6C has less untechable time.

- Level 2 drive moves share SMP with Level 1 and 3.
- 5D has less untechable time (can't even 5D > 2D)

- 2D Lv2 has less untechable time.
- j.D now wallbounds regardless of position (less corner carry)

 

- 236D's wallstick is shorter (difficult to OD > 623C~D afterwards)

 

 

 

 

What has changed so far?

 

- Makoto lost ALL of her combo routes from CP1. The special cancelable level 2 drive moves are there to, most likely, compensate that with new combo routes. As of yet we don't know if that makes it better or worse.

- The parry change seems good at first, but some people have been saying it might be worse than the old parry.

- So far her changes look alright and maybe she'll be a better character, but there's no saying as to how better or worse she'll be - the game has changed too much for us to tell.

  • Matsu: Formerly one of the Bang Gods. Switched to Makoto in CP. A bit more reckless in playstyle which can be good or bad, depending on the opponent. He's currently the only top Makoto still playing. Don't know exactly what changed in his playstyle to compensate for CP1.1 nerfs since there's little footage of him but he's still maintains his dan between 16th-18th Dan. Is CP1.1 Makoto playable? Probably not but Matsu is certainly trying to keep people honest. Currently 17th Dan as of 7/15/14 (highest rank: 18th dan / 13th in overall Dan rankings).

5A Throw Trap OS [Exciel]: 5A > B~C/C~B. This one's godlike. Other characters can do it too so long as you have a 5A that whiffs crouch so it also doesn't work against Hakumen or Tager. If 5A hits/blocked, 5A cancels into 5B or 5C depending on your input. If 5A whiffs (because your opponent is crouching), will instead kara throw. This beats stuff like wake up jump, wake up throw, wake up OS tech, wake up cat chair, etc. But of course loses to wake up dp qq

Makoto-Style Jayoku OS [Exciel]. Should be well known by now but in any case, 21421(4)D~A+B in corner after a correctly timed coroner upper or another downer. If they didn't roll you get 4D kara canceled into barrier, if they roll it will be regestired as 236236D. This is also sort of an OS too. After a good timed corona upper, 2B > 236236D really fast. If they didn't tech then 2B should hit and cancel into PF but if they do tech then 2B whiffs if you did it fast enough.

OS Tager Backstep PF Punish [Exciel]: Dash in 5A > 2362365B~D. Does work on other characters but for what it's worth, should probably be only tried on a backdash happy Tager. Even then beware of IB 720. If he gets hit/blocks 5A then 5B will come out. If he backstepped, PF will come out and you can pretty much always get the punish if it's level 2 or the quickest level 3 possible. [Without meter you can also do the Wakeup Reversal Bait (listed below). If you see 2/5A whiff, then hit Tager as he lands with 5A or 5C for the punish. 720 will still make you cry though.]

Wake-Up Reversal Bait [Rokunaya]: A universal game OS, but still very useful to know. When an opponent emergency or neutral techs after a knock down input:

2A > (1)B

or 2A > 5 > (4)B

or 2A > 6B > (4)

This OS works to bait slow reversals with invincibility (like Jin's C DP). Should they decide to attempt any of these, your 2A will whiff, and you will immediately begin blocking after the recovery, which will give you enough time to block the reversal. Should your 2A hit, you will perform either 5B, 2B or whatever option you choose, and can go into a nice punish combo or pressure. You can wait until they neutral tech before throwing out the 2A so that if they roll instead you can chase them.

Note: This works especially well with Makoto because her jab has the quickest recovery in the game. Here is a list of all reversals that can be beaten with the 2A > (1)B option select:

OS Parry [OmniSScythe]: During a cross up input back then forward and you'll either parry or block the cross up.

Tager! Where Ya Lookin' Brah? [Dark Ranger88]: A character specific cross up. If you do the C version of Asteroid Vision anywhere inside max 5B range you will fly over Tager, making it possible to hit him with a cross up j.C. For the j.C to hit you have to input it slightly after Makoto reaches the apex of C Asteroid Vision. It works whether Tager is crouching or standing, but from max distance you won't cross up if he is standing. On hit or block you can land > 5A to either combo or continue pressure.

However 2C will wreck you, so be wary. You can bait 2C by doing 214C > j.A (whiff) > barrier.

Aerial Throw Resets [Dark Ranger88 + StarGazer]: If you can predict how your opponent will tech, there are many ways to reset them into throws. For example...

After a corner combo or 214A-C-B, instead of doing the air combo finisher you can do, 5CC > HJC > .jA (delay) > 9B+C. If they forward or backward tech in the air (even midscreen) you'll grab them for 2k or like 5k if you have meter. You can even wait for the tech-flash before you jump and still get them.

After 623CD >if the opponent decides to delay wake up > otg him with 2B > if he air techs backward > dash jump grab him

Another thing you can do is after a Corona ender delay the meteor dive so that the opponent is above you when you hit them. If Meteor Dive is level 1 or 2 then you can rapid and grab really quickly. If they were anticipating a lvl 3 and trying to tech you can catch then off guard with a grab. (Similar to Tager Gadget Finger RC scumbag purple throws).

j2C Fuzzy Guard Setup [Dark Ranger88]: In pressure after a j2C you can RC > jB > 2B. If they blocked the j2C standing the jB will hit them followed by the 2B making it a pretty hard mixup to block. Most good players will try to punish you after j2C, so this will make them think twice before pressing buttons. Doesn't work on shorter characters.

2 Ways to Cross Under! [Goldchampion200 + Dark Ranger88]: After Stargazer midscreen, you can either do Eclipse turn or 66 2A to cross up their neutral tech.

Auto 6C Hitconfirm OS [Exciel]: 5C > 6C. In a situation where a 6C is necessary, when throwing out a 5CC instead input 5C > 6C. On block 5CC comes out, on hit 5C 6C comes out. example: an opponent is over anticipating overhead and not blocking low, 2A > 2A > 5B > 2B (hits) > 5C > 6C etc.

j.C -> j.B/j.CC OS: j.CB~C [Exciel]. I don't really have a use for this but it does exist. When throwing out j.C randomly, follow up with B~C. On hit/block you cancel into the better j.B but on whiff it cancels to j.CC. Ghetto air tech shenanigans?

Pseudo Cross-up [Dark Ranger88: After a close range 6A or on your opponent's wakeup, doing a quick double jump forward will cause Makoto to turn around in midair. This will turn j.C into a cross-up instead of having it face away from your opponent. Most people don't expect cross-ups from Makoto, so this will catch people who remain crouching and try to 2A/2B you upon landing.

Planet Crusher Whiff [Goldchampion200] Astral whiff > Whatever you want usually grab in my case.

When you can use it is limited to your distance against the opponent with lvl 3 working best when both players are near the edge of the screen

I find the best success is against zoners like Lambda since its usually quite the chore to get in close and this is basically an I'm gonna get up in your face button.

i honestly think you should never do this unless you plan to end the match with it or if your completely confident in your ability to win once you get close to your opponent since if you miss you will be left without a burst (or no burst if its the last one) and without any heat quite the gamble but very satisfying when it works.

a) What has changed from CSE to CP?

As far as your mindset and optimal playstyle go, not much. However, due to all the system and character changes, Makoto is, all around, a better character than in the previous version.

- With prorate values changed, now her fastest moves and most reliable moves for punishes have a better proration.

- The new hitstop decay system allows us to safely set up our okizeme (see 3.d for details) and gives us more untechable time which eases up combo execution in comparison to EX.

- Her midscreen combo routes now deal more damage and corner carry more than before.

- Makoto’s Overdrive allows for extremely hard punishes that are
unburstable
which makes you much more dangerous than in CSEX.

b) About starters in BBCP

In BBCP, untechable time isn’t decided by each of your combo’s move’s proration, but the move you used as a starter for your combo. In other words, what matters the most for deciding which combo route you should go for is knowing how good your starter is.

But wait, isn’t that the same as before?

Yes and no. It works in a much simpler and more intuitive way in BBCP. Remember how I said the most important thing was knowing how good your starter is? The main reason for why that’s so important is because hitstun now decays with time. This means the better your starter, the more time you’ll be granted before hitstun decays to the point of instant tech (that’s also why we have more untechable time for our combos).

In other words, time is a very, VERY important variable in combos. Don’t ever forget this because it comes to haunt you later if you’re not careful.

I want to keep this section brief, so in case you want more in-depth information about this system change, read the Combo System section in this page.

c) How does this affect Makoto in the game?

Combos are easier and deal more damage than before. Simple, huh?

HOWEVER, do not forget about what you’ve just read. Time is of essential importance in BBCP; if you start your combo with 2AAA instead of 2A and thinks you may have wasted too much time due to pressing 2A three times instead of just once, don’t hesitate in shortening your combo because less damage and guaranteed advantage is a lot better than dropping a combo and losing all your lead.

Conversely, if you hit your opponent with a 6C starter and choose a combo route that works from a “5B > 6C”, that means you’re saving up time and that’s a good thing! Sometimes it means you can use a different variation of that same combo route that deals more damage.

I believe that this section has made the whole “time” thing more clear. Don’t forget that ad-lib and decision-making play important roles in fighting games!

b) Weak, Regular and Strong starters

For our guide, we’ll be dividing starters between “weak”, “regular” and “strong” starters.

  • Weak
    starters will stand for 2A, 5A and throws.

  • Regular
    starters will stand for any other starters that aren’t listed as weak or strong.

  • Strong
    starters will stand for exceptionally good starters that add more untechable time or save up time in combos, allowing us to use stronger variations of our combo routes. Examples include 5B CH and 6C.



    c) Finishers (or 〆)


    Finishers (shortened as 〆 in this guide) are self-explanatory - they are the last bit of a combo. Depending on how you finish your combo, you may get a knockdown and enough advantage to set up your okizeme, extra corner carry or more damage. Thankfully, all those possibilities are within reach for Makoto and in most situations; it all depends on preference.


    Reminder: Don’t forget that you can alter or shorten those finishers at will if there’s any time or height issues. Examples include using a super jump cancel instead of a jump cancel and omiting both j.Cs and only doing “j.B > dj.B”.



    • Corona Upper finisher:
      j.C > j.B > dj.C > dj.B > 623C~D


      This is your best meterless finisher for damage. You’ll often use this midscreen when not opting for corner carry or when there’s not enough time (hitstun decay reaching its limit) at the end of a corner combo for you to set up your okizeme since it gives you a long enough knockdown for you to be in advantage.



    • Corner carry finisher:
      j.C > j.B > dj.D


      For when you’d rather get your opponent to the corner instead of dealing a little more damage. This is preferable when you’re rather close to the corner. With this combo part if you’re close enough to the corner you can follow it up if it isn’t late enough.



    • Particle Flare finisher:
      5CC or 6C > 236236D


      A PF ender is your basic damage finisher for when you have 50% Heat. It adds a lot of damage to your combo but you lose all advantage afterwards so only use it if you’re sure you’ll finish your opponent with it.

    Notes:

    If your combo started from a iffy confirm and you’re not sure whether the hitstun timer will last until the end of your combo, don’t hesitate in shortening your combo.

    Example: j.AA > j.B > dj.D > 5D > dash 2C > 236D > 6A > j.B > j.623C~D

    ☆ All D moves (including special moves) can only be used once due to Same Move Proration. This does not apply to some of her moves, however (2D Lv2 and 2D Lv3 can be used in the same combo without SMP penalty, while 236D Lv2 and 236 Lv3 can’t).

    ☆ Every 236A oki finisher can be switched with:

      Your most basic combo. Works from most normals; gives decent heat amount and damage.

      - 214A~C~B > 5CC > 2D Lv1 > 5B > 6A > 〆 (on crouch or Stargazer starter)

      Only works on crouching opponents. It's a pretty good midscreen combo route that works from most starters that leads to decent corner carry, damage and heat.

      - close 5CC > 2D Lv2 > 5B > 6A > 2D (regular confirm)

      ~ 2C > 214B > j.C > j.B > j.B rejump > dj.D
      (relatively close to corner)

      ~ 2C > 214A~A > 5CC > 〆
      (switches back to other side)

      ~ 2C > CT > 2B > 5B > 6A > 〆
      (damage route; costs 25%)

      Your new midscreen combo route and, by far, the best one. It only works from certain regular confirms such as 5B, 2B, 5C and 214A~C~A CH. This combo route leads to good damage and excellent corner carry, but what makes this route special is being able to
      choose
      which side you're carrying your opponent to. Yes, depending on the variation used, you can carry your opponent to either side of the screen and get a huge advantage from there.

      - 5B > 6C

      ~ 214A~C~A
      (midscreen; guarantees advantageous position)

      ~ 214A~C > 236D
      (for corner carry)

      This combo route doesn't achieve much midscreen since your options are pretty limited. However, if you're close enough to the corner, the second variation should lead to your main corner combo route which nets good damage, heat gain and okizeme (see 6C combo route at the Corner section)

      - Throw > 214A~A > 6A > [2D > 5B > 6A] > 〆

      - Backthrow > 2B > 6A > 2D Lv1 > 5B > 6A > 〆

      - Air throw > 2B > 6A > 〆

      b) Corner

      A less effective combo route, but the one you'll be using whenever you've confirmed or followed up your combo with 5CC or 6B - meaning you can't gatling into 6C. Decent damage and still gets okizeme!

      - Throw > 236D > 2C > 2D > j.B > dj.D > 5D > 236A

      - Backthrow > 2B > 6A > 2D > j.B > dj.D > 5D > 236A

      - Airthrow > 2B > 6A > 2D > j.B > dj.D > 5D > 236A

      c) Specific confirms

      6A CH Anti-air

      In BBEX, for most 6A CH confirms you only needed a single follow-up because it worked regardless of height, but it doesn’t work that way any longer in BBCP because its float state was nerfed. Right now, you need to know what follow-up you should be using after succesfully confirming a counter hit.

      The follow-ups are listed from “opponent is closer to farther to the ground”. First one being your option for when opponent is almost touching the ground and third one being for when very high in the air. Last one is a flashier follow-up that deals a little more damage and works from any height as long as you adapt the timing.

      Midscreen

      ~ 5B > 〆

      ~ 5B whiff > 5A > 6A > 〆

      ~ 5B whiff > 5B > 6A > 〆

      This move was nerfed back in BBEX but buffed again in BBCP, being given its untechable time on CH back. Following it up should be easy but sometimes it might not be possible to do the optimal follow-up due to awkward positioning.

      d) Okizeme

      Comet/Ball Oki: 236A

      Usually set up after a 5D or j.D at the end of your combo - this is your basic and most reliable okizeme setup, which forces your opponent to block on his wake-up unless he decides to risk a reversal on you. It’s 100% safe or, in other words, you won’t get mashed out of or reversal’d when setting it up as long as you are fast enough and there’s enough hitstun left.

      Safe Jumps

      Safe jump setups are useful for maintaining a clear offensive advantage without needing to worry about baiting reversals. In essence what you’ll be doing is ending the combo and jumping in with j.C at the right timing while holding 4 - this creates a option select in which if he uses a reversal you’ll block it; if he blocks it you’ll be pressuring him and if he gets hit you combo him again.

      There are many ways to set up a safe jump but here’s an example of a corner combo ending in a safe jump setup:

      j.AA > j.B > dj.D > 5D > 2D > 236D Lv1 > j.C while pressing 4

      Remember that safe jumps aren’t failproof - your opponent can still late tech or roll through your safe jump and most times it will work which is why it’s not the most reliable okizeme option.

      Others

      There’s other gimmicky setups Makoto can use such as:

      - 5D > 6B > 214A~A > 2A/2B/6B/Throw

      - 5D > 6B > 214C~D

      Those can surprise your enemy and get you a nice reward, but they won’t work twice. They are easily recognizable setups that can get mashed out of, leading to you losing all advantage. With that in mind, use it sparingly and with caution.

      a) Introduction

      Makoto’s Overdrive is one of the reasons she’s way more dangerous this time around. With that she can convert a lot of her confirms in huge unburstable damage combos with corner-to-corner carry that require little to no execution and can be done from everywhere. Many times you’ll find yourself giving away your burst for a OD combo to win the round.

      b) General combo theory

      Okay, here’s where it gets a little harder (just a little) because it’s where you need to be more intuitive.

      The theory behind her OD combos is “press D as much as you can and squeeze out the most damage out of it”. Yes, that’s it. What? It really is that simple - and that’s where you go “???” because that doesn’t really tell you much.
      However
      , there’s many things you should have in mind before pressing A+B+C+D that will probably lead you to knowing exactly what to do when the time comes.

      Firstly, you need to know your priorities based on your position:

      Midscreen
      Your main priority is to juggle your opponent to the corner so you can keep pressing D.

      Corner
      It’s all A-ok! Time to deal a lot of damage.

      Although your main priority midscreen is to carry your opponent all the way to the corner, in truth it doesn’t really differ from what you’ll be doing at the corner.

      Now that we know what we must do, the only thing we have left to do is to learn combo routes, right? Right, but there’s no set combo routes. Pretty much everything can be followed up with any other D move as long as it’s not used twice. However, much like before, there’s many things you should have in mind when pressing your buttons!

      ☆
      Be aware of all variables when attempting a OD combo
      : Combo starter; hitstun timer, overdrive timer, meter and position. They’re all very important! For instance, your OD won’t last for long if you’re not under 50% and won’t deal as much damage if said combo starts off from a j.B instead of a 5B.

      ☆
      In most cases, you’ll want to start a OD combo
      to finish your opponent off
      since it’s a unburstable combo.

      ☆
      Make sure you’ll have at least 50% Heat by the end of your combo so you can use a PF as a finisher and maximize damage. PF can be used from pretty much everything: 5CC, 6C, 2C, 236D, 214A~D, 623C~D, j.623C~D, 214B~D, etc.

      ☆
      j.D, 214A~C~D and 236A~D aren’t really used in OD combos because they simply aren’t as good as her other moves (waste too much time/don’t deal as much damage/can’t be used midscreen). You may see them being used in extremely high damage combos that you probably won’t be using much since they are not as easy to set up, or in situations where ad-lib is necessary. Those moves are not bad - they’re just not the best.

      ☆
      If you’re midscreen, then your priority is to use 623C~D, j.623C~D and 214B~D since they are the best moves to corner carry.

      ☆
      When going for 100% meter OD combos you’ll be using both BBS and PF. For BBS, you need your opponent high enough so that BBS can hit on its last active frames and make it easier for you to follow it up with another move. Best moves to be using right before BBS are 2D, 623C~D, j.623C~D and 214B~D, while the best ones after BBS are 5D, 236D, 214A~D, 623C~D and PF.

      Keep in mind that you’ll only use BBS if you’re in the corner already.

      As long as you have all of this in your head, it all becomes very intuitive and easy to execute. All that’s left is capitalizing on the best situations!

      c) Basic combo recipes

      I am not listing every combo path you can take but I’ll give you some examples of what you should be doing and from which starters.
