General Tips:

- A good way to fit PF into combos with less hassle is to input 2362366D as you are landing from j.D. It'll create a micro dash and do PF afterward. -Bibiquadium

-When using Star Gazer or Mars Chopper in pressure, if you want to get a counter hit to combo out of it without needing 50% heat to Rapid Cancel it, you can always trick your opponent by doing 214A~C~ Delay A or B. If the one you are fighting mashes, he'll get a nice surprise, but if he doesn't, you'll get punished for it so I recommend having 50% heat when doing so. -Bibiquadium

General Midscreen: (DMG: Varies. No less than 1600 and Max is ~2.4K)

*2A/2B > 5B > 5CC > 214A~CCCC

1: Hitting off a raw 5B gets ~1800.

2: If you're close enough, you can tack in 5B > 6A > 5B before 5CC to make the damage maxed out. I think if you do this with a 2A before, it ends up being ~2000. NOTE; this cannot be done if you did a 2B before 6A.

Midscreen Overhead: (DMG: ~2700)

*6B~C > 214A~C~B > 2A > 5C > 2D(1) > 5B > 6C > 214B > j.A > j.B > j.D > 214A~C~A.

1: This can be done from a little bit away from the starting position for your opponent for the 214 A~C~A ender. If you're further from that, you can go into Corona Ender instead.

2: If you do anything before the 6B-C, this combo will not work with 2D(1). take it out and just do 2A > 5C > Corona Ender.

Midscreen CH5B/5C Confirm. (DMG: ~3.8K without Super.)

*CH5B/5C > 2C > 2D > 214A~C~B > 5B/5C 6C > 214B > j.A > j.B > j.D > 5D > 66 > 5CC > Corona ender.

MAJOR NOTE: If I recall correctly, anything you attempt to do on smaller characters like Noel/Carl will MISS after the 5D because they'll tech out before you get to them leaving you wide open. I'll retest it later, because I forgot about this combo. >_> You can also do this combo straight from 2C without CH.

"Strong" Corner Confirm: (DMG: Ranges from 5.1-5.5 depending on starter.)

*5B/6B/5CC > 5D > 214A~C~B > 5B > 6A > 2D > 2C > 214A~D > 5CC > j.B > j.D > 66 > 5CC > PF.

1: Combo is probably your best option off of one of these confirms. It's simple, easy to utilize and can also be done from j.CC, in which case you do a 5B > 5CC after. (j.CC > 5CC nets most DMG.)

2: In case you're having trouble linking the 5CC after the 214A~D, you can do 5A > 6A instead. You sacrifice a little damage, but it makes the combo even easier.

3: Without meter, after the j.D, do basic Corona Ender.

"Weak" Corner confirm: (DMG: ~4.4)

*2B > 5B > 5CC > 5D > *2D > 2C* > 236A~D > 66 > 5CC > j.B > j.D > 66 > 5CC > PF

1: For the parts I have asterisked, you need to do a Microdash to make this universal. some characters will fall out due to their smaller hitbox. As long as you get the dash before you hit one of these moves, it'll work on everyone. Feel free to not use it on character such as Bang, Haku, Tager, Ragna, but yeah.

2: For doing the dash after a 5D, input 662D right as her foot is touching the ground and you'll get it as long as you don't overcharge 2D, For doing a dash after 2D, input 662C right at the peak of their launch from your hit. This has to be done pretty quickly and personally, doing it after 5D is easier.

3: Of course, default to Corona ender without meter.

Diffculty: Makoto gameplan is simple, she plays everybody footsies and have doesn't have a lot of unique tools to use in pressure or neutral etc... Her combos are harder than most of the cast but they can be limited to a couple of confirms, also her hitconfirms are relatively easy. But being simple =/= easy. Makoto requires heavy fundamental skills to play efficiently more than any character in the game, her game highly depends on speed and very precise spacing, her offense requires a skilled player in pressure and mix ups, she can't get away in defense easily so she needs a player with a good blocking skill. She is considered to be one of the hardest characters Blazblue despite being simple.

Simply put it: Makoto is easy to learn, but requires a good player to shine.

Community Combined Combo Compilation

What is it?

Its a compilation by all of you Makoto bros and sisters, of various either swag and/or unpractical combos, character specific or not, let's see how mighty our squirrel can be!

Why? And how can I be a part of it?

- I believe that the best answer for this question would be... Why not? I thought it would be fun to do and could be an enjoyable project from within the community. So feel free to unleash those fancy Fatal Counters, Gold Bursts specific or not combos!

- To participate, simply follow the form bellow and after we, as a community, will pick the swagiest combos and combine them into one video which we will then share to the internet, everyone who is a part of it will have their own segment and their name, even their Makoto colors!

A1) Midscreen:

Generally, Makoto players choose between optimizing damage or optimizing distance traveled to the corner where Makoto becomes much stronger. However Makoto can somewhat optimize Okizeme if she wants to (read the end if you care how). Consider jD instead of normal combo enders for an air juggle to push them further to the corner, especially if Makoto can continue after it.

5B > 6A > 5B > 5CC > 214AC(C*5)

This maximizes damage off of standing confirms. Note that the extra 6A > 5B gatling is disabled if 2B has already been used.

5B > [5C >] 6C > 214ACD LV3

Sacrifices damage to push further to the corner. I tend not to do 5C unless I know it will hit - it can't cancel into 6C on block, and 5CC is garbage on block. 5B > 6C > 214A on block however is far less disadvantageous.

6C > 214ACA

This shit is terrible, I never do it.

ON CROUCH ONLY: 5B > 5CC > 214ACB > 2A > 5B > 6A > air combo

Squeeze in more damage on crouching opponents, take whatever you can get!

ON CROUCH ONLY: 5B > 5CC > 214ACB > 2A > 5B > 2D LV1 > 5B > 6A > air combo

Off of plain 5B or 5C starter this is possible and the damage is nice.

6B > C

The above combo also works here and is optimal.

jCC > 5CC

Ditto for here. Adding any more hits in between will not work.

3C > 2C > 2D LV3 > 214ACB > 5CC > air combo

In case 3C actually goes under something! WHOA!

Only risk this mix-up if you have meter to RC on block. Substitute hit confirm with 5CC on counter hit.

A2) Midscreen combos with meter

Don't put too many extra hits in the beginning of these combos or they'll drop/lose value. When in doubt, just do a normal BnB.

5B > 5C > 6C > 214ACD LV3 > Particle Flare [2 hits] > run underneath > 2D LV3 > air combo

This combo really shines when it switches the opponent into the corner.

5B > 5CC > 214ACC RC > micro dash 2D LV3 > 214ACB > 5CC > air combo

A bit less damage but much easier, won't switch sides, and carries a farther distance.

5B > 5CC > 5D LV2 RC > 2C > 2D LV3 > 214ACB > 5CC > air combo

I personally don't do this combo but it's very similar reward to the one above. Pick whichever you like.

Parry D LV3 RC > 2D LV3 > [dash 2C >] 214ACB > 5CC > air combo

In case you ever actually land a parry! WHOA!

A3) Counter hit combos

Counter hit, even fatal counter, doesn't benefit Makoto very much in this game - most should just be confirmed the same as a normal hit. There are som notable exceptions though.

5C > 2C > 2D LV3 > 214ACB > 5CC > air combo

Makoto's go-to punish on moves with lots of recovery.

214AC OR 214ACA > micro dash 2A > 5B > optimal ground confirm

Hit confirm off of frame traps.

214[b or C]D LV3 > dash 2C > 2D LV3 > 214ACB > 5CC > air combo

Only confirmable on counter hit, it's high risk so don't use Lightning Arrow often.

B1) Corner

No special mention for meter will be given here since the use is obvious - if it will kill then use Particle flare, if it won't then don't because you'll lose oki. Which is bad. If you choose to end in PF, then either do 5CC > PF to keep it simple or (5CC > jB > JC > jD LV3) * 2 > 2362366D if you feel like a baller. I'm only including the most optimal combos since many similar combos exist.

5B > 5CC > 5D LV3 > 5B > 6A > 2D LV3 > 2C > 214AD LV3 > [micro dash] 5CC > jB > JC > jD > 5CC > jB > Corona Upper LV3

More damage can be tacked on to the end, but this optimally minimizes Makoto's landing recovery. By all means add more if it can kill.

5B > 5CC > 5D LV3 > micro dash 2D LV3 > 2C > 236AD LV3 > micro dash 5CC > jB > JC > jD LV3 > dash 2B > 5B > 6A > jB > Corona Upper LV3

5B and 6A whiff on Jin and Valkenhyn's sliding hotboxes, therefore the previous combo must be amended. This combo is interchangeable on other characters too, but 236AD is noticeably harder to time on some (especially Noel).

I use 6C a lot in pressure, so sometimes I need to hit confirm off of it like this. Note that this will not work if Makoto is slightly far from the corner, but she can do LV2 instead which gives her time to connect with micro dash 5A.

C1) Throws

Whether it's a green throw or a TRM setup, I love throwing with Makoto.

B+C > 214ACB (delayed a lot) > 5CC > air combo

My go-to easy throw combo. The first hit is the only hard part.

B+C > 214AA > micro dash 6A > 2D LV3 > 214ACB > 5CC > air combo

Optimal damage, but much trickier to execute. I always forget to do it in matches.

4B+C > 2B > 5C > 2D LV1 > 5B > 6A > air combo

Does less damage so only do it to switch your opponent into the corner.

jB+C RC > 2C > 2D LV3 > 214ACB > 5CC > air combo

This shit does 2K damage raw, but RC adds ~2k so it's worth it.

CORNER ONLY: B+C > 214AA > 5B > 6A > 2D LV3 > 2C > 214AD LV3 > micro dash 5CC > jB > JC > jD LV3 > dash 6A > 5D LV3 [> air combo or oki]

BONUS) Okizeme

This is less about combos and more about theory. Makoto's okizeme isn't great, but sometimes optimizing damage puts her in a really shitty position.

The biggest offender are mid screen air combos (jB jC jB jC Corona Upper) - this leave Makoto with tons of recovery frames and completely resets to neutral positioning. For this reason, I personally omit some hits so that Makoto lands faster after Corona Upper and therefore gains more favorable positioning.

Why does this matter? People tend to ignore emergency techs and roll away instead since the recovery is so long. When Makoto lands faster, she actually gets a chance to punish this by either chasing the roll tech or picking them up immediately with a blue beat 2B for even more damage. My favorite choice is to input Particle Flare as an option select - if they neutral tech then 2B recovers and I pressure as normal, but if 2B hits as a blue beat then it immediately cancels into Particle Flare. Nothing says FUCK YOU quite like killing someone off of that. Note that this will not work on highly prorated combos, in which case it's more beneficial to just chase a roll.

In the corner, the same principle for Corona Upper enders apply but even more so. You do not want to get stuck in so much recovery that the opponent just rolls out of the corner. Better yet, ending combos with 5D gives you plenty of time to perfectly position oneself for roll punishes or meaty orb (albeit it's much worse in EX).

214ACCx5 actually gives decent okizeme mid screen. If you predict that the opponent will not emergency tech, then immediately micro dash jump towards them. Falling jC will lose to DP's as fast as Ragna's (extremely few) or frame one super armor, but will safe jump against everything else. Nifty eh? Once the opponent has learned some respect, you can do 50/50 mix-ups with air dash jC or land 2B instead.

If you think the opponent will not emergency tech (very likely) then run up, pick them up with 2B and squeeze in a bit more damage/corner carry until the lesson is learned.

One time I got a CH Corona Upper, the floating seemed higher, maybe it's once again possible to pick up afterwards?

Meteor dive as an ender needs to put in 1 or 2 beats earlier or they'll tech.

But from tomorrow, there's no loketest so we can't look for them

Played at the loketest. Makoto seems straight up stonger.

Lander lvl 3 leaves at a slight advantage if blocked I believe

Numerous times, we both jumped afterwards, and I got into the air first.

During matches, after having lander blocked, my moves afterwards were all CHs.

But, Lunatic upper > Lander level 3, got thrown in between, so level 3 doesn't seem like it works to stop mashing.

Cosmic ray as others have written is a rush move. Slightly negative on block and leaves a bit away, cannot be punished. Excellent.

A+B crush trigger seems to have a swinging down motion (don't remember well)

Slightly delayed activation while gatling did not allow for a cancel.

guard crush state lets you easily do a dash 5c.

Air throw > 2a connected with no gauge.

Other characters have lost lots of jump cancels or gatlings, but all of ours are intact as of now.

But not enough ways to stop mashing. This might be the spot to write about in the survey.

Learned little but I'll write what I did.

After hitting with 2D(1) and then hitting with 2D(3), as before, same move proration is applied.

A asteroid -> D is surprisingly slow. Particularly, seems hard to use except from long or mid range due to priority.

The below is previously covered, but with the intent of reinforcing it:

Air throw can be picked up with 2b.

Mid screen to corner slide down doesn't allow for lunatic upper -> stargazer to connect.

Lunatic upper's floating is higher, and you end up whiffing quite a bit below them.

As part of a combo, stargazer doesn't seem usable.

Rush RC > dash 2C>2D still hits. Might be the thing to do midscreen if you have meter?

Aerial > Corona > Lvl 2 meteor dive > RC > purple grab is also doable this time around.

J2C is still negative on block.

Asteroid doesn't have projectile invincibility. Neither does the new move cosmic ray.

Lander and cosmic don't seem to be able to be used in combos. With OD maybe there is a chance.

Tried to land a crush trigger on Tager in the middle of a combo. 6A CH > Crush trigger connected, but didn't seem to be able to follow up after that.

Corner slide down/jin against the wall, 5B and 5CC wouldn't connect, but, just in the case of the slide caused by 5D, it was possible to follow up afterwards if you dash right in.

Lunatic upper > gazer wasn't able to be beat with insta block > throw (Report from opponent)

That last bit is quite nice if it is true, but time was up before it could be thoroughly checked.

This time the adjustments seem to be a step forward from EX. Personally, I was quite happy with it.

On air parry it can be combo from if higher enough without using it's follow up though it highly prorated. Space counter breaks a primer. Has very short recovery.

623C/j.623C: DP, air unblockable with both versions, used in corner carry combos, if the D is used near the peak you can fall faster and make the follow up whiff which can be used to extend a combo. Knocking down a opponent with a level 1 or 2 2D follow up give them increase untechable time before they can tech.

5D: Causes ground slide, is air unblockable on any level, standard combo filler, breaks a primer, can fatal, 5D (1) and (2) has different uses than 3.

j.D: Causes ground slide, breaks a primer and can fatal.

236A/~D: Nick named orb oki, projectile, hits 4 times and is active for a short while. The ~D follow up at full charge goes 4/5ths of the screen, can break a primer, takes 2 primer at close range since Makoto's fist adds a hit, causes wall bounce anywhere and can fatal.

Astral vision A/B/C: Makoto's illusion special, causes 2 afterimages to support the real ones movement which depends on the version and has follow that only possible during AV. Astral vision B/C can get increased range if done during dash.

214A~A/214A~B: A stop's movement from astral vision A. B allows you to go through opponents.

Lighting arrow B and C (214B~D and 214C~D respectfully): Breaks primers, CH causes Fatal status and C arrow crosses up on Tager. 214B~D is great to use as a combo finisher due to the large amount of untechable time on hit.

214A~D: Has invincibility on juke, breaks a primer, can cause fatal status, causes wallbounce in the corner.

214A~C: Can combo into C~mash, on CH combos into ~D and air unblockable.

214A~C~A: Overhead, can go into 5D/2D on hit and air unblockable.

214A~C~B: Low, or CH hit can be combo off of with 2B.

214A~C~C: C~CCC or C~Mash, can be combo'd off up with rapid cancel

Particle Flare: PF for short, a three part distortion that does more damage with level 3 charges. Can be stopped at part 1 and be combo'd off up with part 2 using dash then 2D(3). Leads to Makoto's highest damaging combos. Can also OTG with the first hit but must charge to level (2) during the second hit to avoid a blue beat. Air unblockable

Big Bang Smash: BBS for short, projectile, full charge hit 3/4ths of the screen, can punish other projectiles and can be used to combo into PF if timed and spaced right.

6A+B: Her counter assault, can be combo'd if it CH's with the opponent is in the corner. Counter assaults cannot kill but will leave opponent with 1 HP.

Alright, so we're getting started on this. CS2 is right around the corner so we should at least have the thread set for all the information gathering and necessary discussion regarding our part in this project.
