It's about 20 pages worth of information and I think it can help both Elphelt and non-Elphelt players. Please considering sharing it with your friends or retweeting it on Twitter if you liked it!
FAQ
[collapse]

How do I unlock Elphelt ?
Elphelt is a DLC character. She can only be bought december 18th. There are, however, some ways to have her for free and before the 18th but it depends of which version you own or plan to get.
JP version: She's free only for preorders both physical and digital. If you didn't preorder, gotta wait december 18th to buy her.
HK version: She's free up to december 17th. No need for preorders or anything like that. The HK version was available the same day as the JP version: december 4th.
US version: She'll be free to download for anyone from december 16th to January 5th like you can see here

Price: 800Y for the JP version, 7,99$ for the US version.

	Hello

I play Elphelt since january, and even if i'm not a "master" i can do a lot of stuff, and i like to play her. But there is one think i have a lot of trouble with, it's to anti air consistently.

Let me explain. When i try to use c.S (to follow up with combo), i get, most of the time, a f.S instead, and if i delay my input so my opponent is closer to me, i get often hit by him... If i want to use 6H i have to do it very early because of it very long startup. I try to nj.D sometime, but the move has a long startup to, and i get often hit.

Do you have any tips to help consistently aa ? wich aa do you use for normal jump in, dash jump in close to the ground, etc...

thank you ! (sorry for my horrible english)

This is a guide intended to help Elphelt players utilize the sniper stance more consistently and to give an overview of how the stance works for those who play characters not as cute.

The sniper stance is one of the most abusive aspects of Elphelt's gameplay. With perfect reloads and good cursor movement, you can easily force your opponent to take unfavorable risks. You may have seen Sharon, a top Elphelt player, use the sniper stance to great success.

While I want to be as objective as possible, I also want to be detailed. Take what you will, and feel free to correct me or offer your own opinions.

General Information:

Enter stance by inputting 236S.

Elphelt is unable to move, but gains a cursor she can move around with directional inputs.
The cursor can be moved anywhere except the top third of the screen and directly behind her.
Fire by pressing any button other than D when the cursor is colored. I recommend S.
These shots can only be blocked in the air with Faultless Defense.

If the cursor is unmoved for 0.4 seconds, it grows to cover a greater area and the shot becomes unblockable.
The unblockable shot needs to be blitz shielded, backdashed, or avoided.

After firing, you will exit stance unless you reload the sniper rifle.
You can also exit stance by pressing D or by entering shotgun stance.
There are two types of reloads: a bad reload and a perfect reload.
Bad reloads are only done accidentally after failing a perfect reload.
On a successful perfect reload, the recovery of the reload gets cut in half from 23 to 11.
Detailed advice on performing perfect reloads in succession will be in a later section.

When to Take Out the Sniper and Aiming Theory:

Sniper has 27 frames of startup before entering stance, which isn't bad at all. You can take it out about a little more than a half screen away and still shoot them before they hit you, not that you should, but you can. The main concern is being able to aim at your opponent. This isn't an FPS where you can flick your mouse and aim as quickly as you can. You are limited by the speed of the cursor, and the cursor moves slower than your average opponent.

This is why smart cursor movement, rather than aim, is emphasized. Good directional control is also important so that you can precisely press and release a direction on a dime. To catch up to an opponent with your cursor, you have to be able to visualize the future paths of your opponent and your cursor and move your cursor straight there. It is not enough to simply follow your opponent with the cursor in that case. You need quick reactions to react to your opponent's sudden movement options or your cursor will be effectively "juked" and you'll have to spend meter and/or lose neutral instantly. There's also a great deal of luck and guessing involved. "Mind games" are what they call them, but it's a sad euphemism when you see this sniper in action.

There is a delay between when you're able to move your cursor and when you can fire! Your cursor is on average slower than your opponent, which means that if they were already ground dashing at you, then your cursor will lag behind and never catch up because of dash acceleration at least against faster characters. Air dashes are even faster, but they have negative acceleration(?) and only move a set distance; thus air dashes are more effective the closer they are, especially if they have a good air to ground off an airdash.

Due to this delay and ground dash acceleration, it makes sense that taking out the sniper is safer when they aren't in a position to be moving forward. This lets you move your cursor ahead of your opponent and mix-in unblockables as well as partially charged shots from the threat of unblockables. Common situations when their movements are more stable are after a knockdown, after throwing a grenade at them, and after an offensive feint or backdash.

Perfect Reloading with Good Technique:

This is input for perfect reload:
S(Fire) > delay > 46S

There are two requirements for perfect reloading:
You hit the second S at the right rhythm after the first S.
You hit the second S within two frames of hitting 6(forward) and not any earlier.

Intuitively, you focus on the timing of the second S, but that's actually the hardest way to do it.

Humans are better at timing shorter intervals than longer ones. We will apply this in two ways:

1) Hit 6 at the fastest consistent speed.
Bounce smoothly and quickly off the gate when you hit 4. This will carry your momentum better allowing you to hit 6 faster. You will have more certainty of when the forward directional is activated. Remember that for a stick, the direction is activated about halfway between neutral and the gate of the stick.

2) After you hit S to fire, memorize the delay before you hit 4 rather than the delay before you hit 6S.
If you keep constant the number of frames it takes to move from 4 to 6S(by doing it quickly and consistently), then you can memorize the the timing of a shorter interval (from S to 4) instead of the longer interval (from S to 6S).

Four more tips:

3) Hit the second S exactly one frame after hitting 6.
That way you have a margin of error equal on both sides. Hit it one frame early, and you hit 6S at the same time. Hit it one frame late, and you're still in there. To do this, you need to know how slow one frame actually is. If you barely don't hit the microswitches at the same time, that's probably too fast.

4) Don't get greedy and try to get perfect perfect reloads.
The window where you can do a perfect reload is big. I panic when they're too close by trying perfect reloading on the first possible frame, but you lose the margin of error for doing it too early. I'd leave about a third of the window; half on each side is too much.

5) Don't buffer the shot after taking out the sniper or reloading if you don't have to.
If the shot is buffered, the timing of the perfect reload window is also shifted, and who knows exactly how many frames it was buffered. Make sure you learn the timing of when the cursor turns pink, and internalize that it's better to be late than early.

6) Practice:

The more you practice, the more precise your timing will be and the faster and more consistently you can hit 6~S.

Here's are some ways to practice:

1) Mash the bounce off 4 into a quick and consistent 6, P1 and P2 side whenever you can in between games.
This will help you warm up and prevent cooldown for doing perfect reloads.

2) In training mode, do these exercises for both P1 and P2 side
a) 236S > [S(fire) > Perfect Reload] x 10
b) [236S > S(fire) > Perfect Reload > 236H > backdash] x 5
c) [236S > S(fire) > Perfect Reload > 236H > 236P > 2P > dash FD brake > charged SG-H > shoot] x 5
d) [236S > unblockable > Perfect Reload < 236H] > x5

3) Keep using it in real matches even if it's killing you.
This will help you achieve fluency with the cursor and teach you to perfect reload even in panic situations.

4) Watch Sharon's matches and decipher the reasoning behind each frame of cursor movement.

YRC and RRC:

If you YRC while in stance before firing, the cursor will reposition itself onto the opponent, but the delay before you can fire after taking out the sniper or reloading is not cancelled. Don't YRC too early and this will help occasionally.

If your YRC after firing, then the 42 recovery frames are canceled into the 7 frame startup of YRC. This is extremely useful and dirty unlike Elphelt's existence. If they are above you, you can punish them for avoiding your sniper volleys by air grabbing them.

When you have 25-49 meter and they're dangerously close, you can do the standard YRC OS where if it hits, you don't get RRC due to lack of meter but get YRC on whiff.

With 50 meter, you can convert into a combo with RRC and a full combo if it was also a counterhit.

Misc:

Fire > Perfect Reload > 236H recovers faster than Fire > full recover, but the latter retains more options.
If you counter hit your opponent after Fire > full recover, you can follow up with dash up 5Hx5 or better.
Be aware of all your opponents options. For example, Sol's Grand Viper is much faster than your cursor and requires you to aim at the ground.
It's safer to more your cursor forward and move it back to aim at them, but don't let them take advantage of this either.
Sniper is more effective when a grenade out on the field, but against some characters you won't have time for both even after a knockdown.
You would rather hit them than let them block it. If you predict an FD, occasionally just continue leading your shot until you think they will let go of FD.
If they're already rushing you via dashing or dashjump when you're taking it out, consider getting out of stance by pressing D or entering shotgun stance.
Positioning your cursor diagonally in front of them may cover their movement options better.
You can shoot Faust Bag Bombs and Zato's little Eddie.
Your opponent can YRC to slow down your cursor.
Some characters can superjump where your cursor can't reach and do all sorts of odd things from there.
If you get a bad reload, consider switching to shotgun stance immediately.

Thanks for reading.

First off, I want to thank everyone here for being a huge help in the past. I've been a long time lurker, but I finally have a question of my own.

Anyways. for some reason, I almost always drop the j.HS in challenge #28 when I'm midscreen, but I can't quite figure out why. It either whiffs or Sol techs. The annoying part is that I've done it a few times, and I can almost always do it in the corner. Usually I wouldn't worry about it since I've completed it, but I'd like to use this combo in actual matches. Anyways, here's the combo if you need a refresher on which one it is.

CH c.HS>S>JC>j.S>j.P>j.S>JC>j.S>j.P>j.S>j.HS>j.D

If anyone else has had this problem and figured it out, help would be greatly appreciated.

Introduction/Disclaimer: The following sections will pretty comprehensively go over Elphelt's basic groundgame and mixups. Don't feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of things that are listed! I'm sure you have your own methods of learning, but my advice would be to learn 1-2 combos/mixups for each session, then do some matches until you feel it comes to you naturally, and then build from there. Also feel free to experiment with alternate gatlingroutes that you come up with! The game is still freesh, and you want to create your OWN Elphelt in the end, so have fun with it!

Note: This basic course is aimed to help new elphelt players that are completely new to her get into it. I opted out of posting advanced stuff and only kept the most basic things that i believe a new Elphelt player should learn and master. The thought is that using the below moveset creates a non-predictive average Elph-player using her most basic stuff. This of course is my own opinion but I hope it will be helpful.

Notable Normals

far 5S: Great range, really good poke, cancel into bridal express or instant airdashcancel on hit/block
close 5S: the champagne is great for opponents in the air above you, not so great for opponents coming at a 45 degree as you tend to get far S instead and you get blown up. always convert into aircombo.
2S: Really good poke also, stuffs a lot of moves like Sol's Grand viper and Ino's low profiling move, convert into 5HHHH on standing or 2D when opponents are close. In my opinion her best ground to ground move.
2P: Her fastest normal, almost exclusively used as a counterpoke in opponents blockstring where gaps may be. Convert into close 5S > far 5S > ... Has some uses in meatys as well to mix it up, or used to tick throw
6H: really good horisontal and vertical hitbox, good for catching people jumping when they are far away. Leads into some interesting comboes on counterhit. Always cancel this move into 236p or shotgun to mix it up.
5H: Great range, convert into 5HHHH on hit, often catches opponents trying to jump. if you whiff 5HHH be sure to YRC it if you have meter
5K: lots of active frames, it's a standing low which is great for meaty strings or used after empty jumps
6P: Her only overhead, use sparingly, always special cancel it into shotgun, or grenade, or her 632146 super. 632146 super Does damage on hit or Massive frameadvantage and/or chip otherwise.NEVER do 6P without cancelling it. if you feel gutsy you could cancel into bridal Express but be prepared to RC it if 6P is blocked
j.S: Versatile airmove with a good hitbox and even hits behind her which can be used for crossups if approaching from above. if contesting an opponent in the air, do j.S > j.HS for a knockdown
j.D unparallelled horisontal hitbox, great for tagging people in the air at a distance, cancel into grenade or air bridal express

Meatys

If you are close enough and have a grenade at hand, throwing it out as oki is a very good option. The reason is that the grenade will hit frame 1 and locks your opponent in block or hitstun until you've decided on your approach. If you want to be more advanced in your approach you can mix it up with safe-jumps, something that i will not cover at all in these series

For opponents that are knocked down far from you you can still reach them on wakeup with 6H cancelled into Grenade / Shotgun or Bridal Express to keep advantage. Bridal Express is especially good because if it hits on block from close to max distance you will be + on block. Be careful of using 6H too much against characters with reversal options though, such as DP:s, Slayer's backdash, Slayer's Dandy step, or Potemkin's backdash.

Notice that you should never aim to throw the grenade right away. 6P in this case will only be a setup to safely give you a grenade-pull. You should backdash or airbackdash afterwards to try and get the grenade out safely.

Basic Corner Combos

This isn't something that will add more damage or make things better for you in this beginner class. I just wanted to mention that you can vary your approach slightly of combos in the corner. The regular stuff already gone through works fine, so this is just an interesting addon to what you've already learnt. In the Intermediate and Advanced class though, we will start to get really dangerous with shotgun loops..

If you go into an aircombo close to the corner, instead of the regular aircombo you can instead do:

close 5S > j.K > j.S > j.H > .j.D > Land > far 5S > 5HHHHH

For better Oki do:

close 5S > j.K > j.S > j.H > .j.Dxx236p > Land > 2p (throw grenade) > Oki

If you get a Bridal Express > RC into the corner you can do:

Dash > 2HS (2 hits) > 5S > Aircombo (Regular or the Corner specific one)

the 2HS approach is also possible from midscreen even though it's harder so I left it out in this basic tutorial.

Throw to RC combos

I think this would be wise to mention in the basic rundown. If you land a throw you can RC it for 50% tension for some pretty neat damage!
Option 1: Run > 5S > Aircombo

Option 2:
Midscreen > Corner combo:

Throw > RC (RC just as the grenade goes BOOM) > Dash after, and before the opponent loses too much altitude > 6HS > Bridal Express (should be in the corner).

If you hit the bridal express when they still have some altitude you can add:

close 5S > Air Combo

Corner combo
Should work the same. 6HS should be much easier to time to get the full combo as long as you do 6HS a bit out of the corner, otherwise the opponent might bounce out of the corner when bridal express connects

Elphelt's grenade is really good for creating momentum for yourself, the opponent willl respect your advance if there is a grenade out on the screen, both in neutral and on Oki.

Instant airbackdash > 236p (either throw it using 4P in the air or land and wait a bit)

j.D (hit) > 236p

2D (block or hit) > 236p

As for the shotgun, play around with it, I really didn't use it much as first before i understood her basic stuff. But keep in mind that every player should FEAR Elphelt while she has her shotgun out, especially in the corner as she can get easily over 200 damage meterless with it ( over 300(!) damage from raw Charged SH-HS with meter). If requested I can do a breakdown of her shotgun gameplay as well

I think if you learn the above and play 100 or so matches you will have an extremely strong base for the myriad of advanced things that comes after this:

Shotgun pressure

Unblockable Loops

Optimized grenade aircombos

200+ damage from near-corner throw > RC

Counterhit Combos

Character specific combos

Advanced Corner Combos

Hello, I have been playing elphelt for a while and I think I hit one of those mental walls; like I would like basically the plan and etc to play this her to the max because how I'm playing is basically going in there and pressing buttons(I mean I know a few combos and mix ups,her tools and a few moves to start the match with) and Im not sure if this character is really my cup of Joe anymore, I play on ps3 so Any elphelt gods and see how i play and tell me what's up because I do want to get better

RULES:

First rule: You can pretty much consider this thread to be the "Elphelt Non-gameplay related thread."
You can talk about anything concerning Elphelt here. The point however is that the main subject is and should always be Elphelt. If you believe that a thought you bear doesn't belong to the gameplay section, you can share it here.

Second Rule: Going off-topic a little bit is more or less allowed.
If there is a debate, at some point, there will be a need to mention subjects not directly related to her in order to bring new arguments. It happens quite often in debates and generally, improve its quality. Not allowing it would be a shame but it HAS to be moderated and I'll be here to tell you when you have been off-topic for too long.

Third Rule: Story and fanart related subjects belong to the Zepp Museum. Not here.
Like the second rule mentioned however, there can be some cases where you will need to mention that in a debate. In that case, I'll allow it as long as the main subject is still Elphelt and I'll tell you when you should stop.
It's in your best interest to talk about it in the Zepp Museum however as you will be able to share your thoughts and opinions with more people.

Fourth rule: Dramas, insults or anything displaying bad manners or immaturity will be sanctioned.
If you have poor social skills, don't know how to properly behave or have no common sense, don't post anything in this thread. This rule is your first and last warning. You will be sanctioned right afterwards if you don't respect it.

Final rule: If any of the above rules gets ignored several times, this thread will be locked.
Whether it's the same individual who keeps behaving this way several times, members ignore my authority or any big dramas happening, this thread will be locked definetely and gameplay will be the only subject the Elphelt forum will be allowed to talk about. The thread won't be deleted and will be used as a future example to make people understand what happened the last time the Elphelt forum as been given a chance. You have been warned.

If you can respect the rules I've set, you're welcome to post here and have fun !

Hello

First of all, thank all of you ! i learned a lot from this forum !

I'm stuck on some challenges or trial for elphelt and i juste wanted to know if you have some tricks with some of them:

- Trial 22 : i am unable to perform K, S, HS during my airdash. I was able to do it once, but was so surprized that i didn't end the combo !! is there a trick to land it consistently ?

- For the challenges : in some challenges you can take the character of your choice, and so i take elphelt. But for some of them you have to land a 100 Damage combo from midscreen without metter (for example VS sol part 1). With metter i can make more than 100, but without... what combo do you perform for such case ? (5D and than air follow ? is there another way to perform high dommage without meter ?)

Sorry for my english !

If some of you are stuck with other trial, please feel free to feed this post. Maybe, for some of them, i could help you.

So pretty much challenge 24 of this video I'm having trouble with except in training mode I do it from dust and I'm consistent until from O into R1

http://youtu.be/nG1mR84I4vc?t=2m38s

About 60% of the time I can do it but from what I can tell I'm 100% consistent when there's a slight distance from the opponent but the other 40% I don't get a distance and she slaps them right down with her bouquet and I don't have the time to R1.

Any ideas what I'm doing that's creating the distance?
