I actually do not own this game as of yet but it looks interesting and has some connections to Guilty Gear and BlazBlue, so I thought it might be fun discussing it as a topic.

I technically disagree with Ishiwatari’s view that Azure Grimoire and the Tome of Origin are the same book, but from a creative non-lore standpoint I guess you could say they are similar.

Someone also pointed out “William” who seems to share a similar hobby to Axl Low.

An interview with Ishiwatari seems to suggest that his writing is based on a “possible past” and a “possible future” and that D&B is set in the former (with GG’s plot I assume as the latter).

Anyway just think of this as a catch all thread for Damon & Baby!

People have different opinions, it's pretty shocking, I know. You can say what you like, what you don't like, and even what you hate about the music in this thread, but if you try to tell someone that they are wrong/dumb/etc for liking what you don't or vice versa, there's gonna be a problem. You can inquire a bit about why someone likes a certain song, but be civil.

Keep this ish in mind. Go.

NOTE: 'Base' Ragna = Ragna without active Grimoire (usual non Unlimited Ragna, not the crippled one)

Before CP True Ending (more details on Quote below)

Quote

Most of his losses are caused by him being 'nerfed' story-wise (and gameplay wise where you can't use Soul Eater attacks), such as:

• [CT] Nu: Possibly because Ragna was heavily wounded after defeating Hakumen (he's described as covered in blood after saving Noel)

  • Well, for this one base Ragna may not win against 1/8th Azrael even without handicap, but Ragna was still able to hold off Azrael, even when he's crippled, pretty good feat.

What did Ragna do for battles when he wasn't handicapped (especially CP one)?

• [CT] Beat Arakune, battling Valkenhayn, defeating Jin, defeating Hakumen (with active Grimoire)
  • Valk is aging Six Heroes
  • Jin is a war hero who singlehandedly win Ikaruga Civil War, also beating up the likes of Bang and Carl, only weaker than even more powerful ones in the game like Hakumen or Nu.
• [CS] Beat Carl, Lambda, battling Rachel (non-Onlooker), defeating Hazama, doing better than Hakumen/Jin against Mu (with active Grimoire)
  • Ragna pretty much beat Carl, but got distracted by Jin hallucination so Nirvana can attack Ragna to escape.
  • Lambda has Idea Engine, so she should be close to real Murakumo Unit.
  • Rachel is no longer an Onlooker, but she still can stand against Hazama.
  • Like said above, Ragna beat Hazama on equal grounds.
• [CP] Beat up Tager, Tsubaki, stalemating against Hakumen and Nu
  • This is what happened in Ragna fights outside Celica, though admittedly Ragna is also getting better (even before CP Ending, as said by Hakumen).

His struggles/defeats without handicap?

• [CT] Rachel (if this one can be counted)
  • By far the strongest in CT (probably even on prime Six Heroes' league), she's an Onlooker, she just cannot do much because of Onlooker rules.
• [CP] Kagura
  • Debatable if Celica really affects him or not during this one.

TLDR/Conclusion for pre-CP True Ending:

All of his struggles are against an enemy that has equally or even more fearsome reputation such as (mentioning from CT to CP ones):

• Rachel (Daughter of famed Clavis and dubbed the Onlooker of the world)
• Hakumen (Leader of legendary Six Heroes who slayed Black Beast)
• Hazama (Which houses Terumi)
• Kagura (Head of Mutsuki, most powerful Duodecim in NOL, also ranked General)
• Azrael (Have many, nicknames that each one sounds as dangerous as "Grim Reaper")
• etc.

Then, most of his struggles/loses are also when Ragna is handicapped

And in conclusion for Ragna, base Ragna is actually stronger than you think. The only ones matching him/stronger back in CT was Rachel, 20% Hakumen (Ragna's stronger with Grimoire active), and Nu. And since CP he's not below 20+% Hakumen, contrary to popular belief. He's already matching him without active Grimoire and the other losses of his was only because Celica crippling him.

Post-CP True Ending and CF (more details on Quote below)

Near end of CP from his losing streak due to nerf (Grimoire nullified) and also Kagura saying that he blindly throws power, he learned to fight skillfully, not over-relying on Grimoire and then at CP true ending he gets more improved from that; he became the Bloodedge who is MVP of Dark War, fight off Take-Mikazuchi (with Grimoire active and Celica-nullified, but its said that he's like Black Beast), and curbstomp Nu. Ragna in CF is continuation of this CP true ending, not all of a sudden can equal sealed Azrael in CF without active Grimoire; he already had feat proof before mentioned above.

But this sparks a question for CF one, "Ragna can only kick ass because Doomsday weakening the Qualified?"

While Ragna explained in CF why he's still strong (Being not Qualified), then again the majority of Qualifieds he fought in CF (apart from main villains) are Jin, Noel, Litchi, Bang, Nu, Tsubaki, Makoto, and Bullet....which, tbh, Ragna is already stronger than them all since the beginning of the game (except for Nu, since CP) without active Grimoire, and it's not like he fought them all at once, only 1v1. And for the rest...

Qualifieds are weakened gradually; When base Ragna fought Kagura (at mid game), that time his weakening didn't matter so much (and Kagura said when Ragna mastered his power - which he did at the end of CP, he can be potentially as strong/stronger than him even at base), and the other one he fought that time was Relius (which you know..). Late game, the weakening progressed to the point that even Take-Mikazuchi Nu (the one that fought both old Jubei and 20+% Hakumen) was beaten by base Ragna (And Hakumen was beaten casually by Ragna after that unlike Kagura before).

The only qualified weakening that mattered for CF Ragna is tbh, Take-Mikazuchi Nu (at late game). Ragna already stalemated Hakumen at mid CP without active Grimoire and was even stronger at CP end, so in Hakumen's case, the weakening only made base Ragna able to beat Hakumen easily when they are supposed to be even. And for Hazama, Ragna already beat Hazama in CS back then (both with active Grimoire, as CF fight is also the same).

TLDR/Conclusion for post-CP True Ending and CF:

CF Ragna isn't Ragna suddenly becoming powerful for no reason. Ragna is just being the same Ragna in CP True Ending before (In which Ragna improved himself with skill).

Also, Ragna isn't winning because of Doomsday effect, because Ragna is already stronger than most Qualifieds (such as Litchi, Makoto, Bullet, etc.) since even first game and Ragna without active Grimoire have become on par with the Qualified powerhouses like Kagura or 20+% Hakumen since CP True Ending.

It will take a couple more years til we hear anything about BB5 (though it might not be called BB). Both new and old cast will be present. As I said, Jin's and Tsubaki's kid will be one of the main protagonists. Mai and Carl will definitely be back. A new Magic Guild school is created in response to what happened in recent events. A 14th city will be built in the time gap. Dunno how big the time gap will be; probably 15-20 years.

Starting thread:

From what I gathered up to now, Mai seems to be a interest character even though she use to be dude. Though the Remix Heart manga is still running, it will end at some point (I hope). Mai was also mention in Chronophantasma which means she is connected to the main storyline somehow. We haven't figured up "what" exactly Mai is, beside a grimoire. As early in the chapter, she said the sensation for the Azure happened before. Mai has already proved she isn't a damsel (though she wasn't a girl to start with). Hopefully there will be more holes to fill in her existence.

I do agree now that she has no talent for learning or use magic. However, she has to be useful for something. Noel said that Mai went missing after graduating which begs the question: What the heck she's been up to between graduation and Chronophantasma?

General notes:
I can't call this COMPLETE - a few sprites didn't convert properly, or were completely useless, or crashed any program I tried to open them with, usually all three. However, these packs do contain all of the character sprites and all of the SFX in some form or another. You're not really missing anything.

Anyway, use this thread for delighted squeals or posting up animations or sprite edits or whatever 'cuz it ought to have a continued purpose and the original thread has become something of a clusterfuck.

Also, if you notice any issues with the sprites or with the links here, let me know and I'll get 'em fixed ASAP.

Some notes on sprite usage:
Most of the SFX sprites (in /Effects/) are meant to be semi-transparent. In Photoshop you can get this effect by changing its layer mode to Screen. If a sprite has a black border around it, you can bet it's meant to be screened. If anyone knows an easy way to do this in other programs, let me know.

Palette Swaps:
Photoshop, GIMP and Paintshop Pro should have no issue doing palette swaps. Just load up the image's palette/color table and use one of the other .ACT files in its place. The /Palettes/ folder only contains character palettes, and for the most part will not work with SFX sprites.

The electrocution sprites (xx082_xx.png) use their own special palette, don't edit it by mistake.

Photoshop

I don't know much about photoshop, but can you change the default colour of the sprites with the palettes archives?. How can I change Litchi's default colour for the ink style colour?.

Photoshop should be:

Image -> Mode -> Color Table ==> Load -> /Palettes/ -> Litchi_12.act

In the same Color Table window, click the eyedropper at the bottom-right of the window, and then click the Green at the bottom-right of the colors to make it Transparent.

GIMP

I found out how to do it with GIMP. You gotta import the palette file. Open the Palettes dialog

Windows > Dockable Dialogs > Palettes

Then on the palettes dialog open the context menu and select "Import Palette".
Check "Palette file" as source then select your palette file, then just click import.

Now if you haven't already, open the sprite image file you want. Then

Colors > Map > Set Colormap

Then just choose the palette that you just imported.

Notes on Story Mode Artwork:

The Story Mode character art is in Mr. Potato Head mode. The faces are mostly blank, with eyes/mouths/effects as separate files in the same folder. You'll have to assemble them yourself, using your favorite transparency-enabled image editor.

The following characters are included: Arakune, Bang, Carl, Gii, Hakumen, Hazama/Terumi, the Ikaruga Ninjas, Jin, Jubei, Kaka Elder, Kaka Kittens, Kokonoe, Linhua, Litchi, Makoto, Nirvana, Noel, Nu, Rachel, Ragna, Tager, Taokaka, Tsubaki (school uniform only), and Valkenhayn.

Notes on DLC Palettes and GG Crossovers:

Here's a list of every BlazBlue character's Guilty Gear palette. These palettes are available in Color Pack #2 on your respective console's online marketplace, with the exception of Jin (Robo-Ky is #2, Ky is #1).

Basically

- The story takes place after Overture which is five years after GGXX and Daisuke said this is a main entry along with GG and GG2

- Ky's stage is the garden because we can see his Overture servants on the background, he also wears a cape similar to his king cape so we can assume he most likely stilll hold his position

- The Gear sublimation incident in GG2 surely exposed the existence of independent Gears to the public, this issue needs to be addressed. Dr. Paradigm stayed in the Illyria castle and Ky extended friendship to him.

- I-No is confirmed to be alive, so her canon ending in AC is the one where That Man punishes her

- We still don't know anything about That Man's third servant

- That Man says Valentines are being born every day

- Sin stayed with Ky in the castle instead of traveling with Sol

- Maiden of the Grove/Dizzy was still asleep at the ending of Overture but due to her popularity, it's very likely she'll be playable

We are still not sure what AC endings are canon for many characters:

- Chipp could have teamed up with Pot or could have joined the Guild

- Pot could have been shot and presumably killed or teamed up with Chipp

- Baiken could have gone mad or teamed up with Anji for like the 59th time, their endings match

- May could have run away from Johnny, or not. Their two endings match each other

- Bridget may be Jam's waiter because Jam's other ending seems unlikely

- Venom's ending where he wages war with PWAB is most likely the canon one since his other ending involves him meeting a boy hinted to be Bridget's twin, and the ending where the twin has gone missing less likely because Jam's 1st ending is more likely

- Since Eddie is in the trailer, we can assume the ending where he evolved is canon

- Surely Milllia is alive, so she's still running

- Testament could have burned with the forest or just remained sad like 99% of the time

- Robo-Ky could have been scrapped or not, if it is the former it would be Robo-Pot now

- Slayer could have returned to the other world to retire or decided to fight again

- As for ABA, one of her endings has Paracelsus in a human body while the other has him stuck in Robo-Ky's head

- Zappa's ending where he gets spirited away into Slayer's world matches Slayer's one ending, while the other has him scared at S-Ko like 99% of the time

- Faust's endings can both be canon (ending wise, not path wise) as one has him giving Zappa a nasty plastic surgery
