Q. Is Arakune's Moth Super his EA

Fast Answer: No

In Depth Answer: The Moth Super is a curse exclusive super, like any DD it costs 50 meter. The moth stays on screen as long as curse it active, it's guaranteed to come out, does 1700 damage, doesn't advance the combo timer and is untechable on air hit. Arakune's EA is something different.

Glossary

IMPORTANT: - You'll see this when there is a bit of information or advice that is an absolute staple to knowing how to play Arakune correctly.
iad - Instant Air Dash (earliest possible air dash from a jump).
j.4xx - This is Arakune's air dash cancel into several buttons, usually j.b or barrier block (4a+b).
(sideswap) - You'll see this in a combo or setup notation that indicates that a sideswap (your opponent is on the other side of you) takes place mid combo/setup, your inputs should be reversed to reflect this occurrence.
[x] - You'll see this in a combo or setup notation, inward brackets indicate that the button should be held.
]x[ - - You'll see this in a combo or setup notation after a button has been held, outward brackets indicate that the held button should be released.
d bug 1 - You'll see this mainly in pre-curse combos, this notation is specifically for the d bug while burrowing into the ground.
d bug 2 - You'll see this mainly in pre-curse combos, this notation is specifically for the d bug while shooting from the ground into the air.
(xxx) - You'll see this in a combo or setup notation and will always be a move, moves inside parenthesis are not mandatory to the combo.

Introduction

Hi guys! Welcome to the Arakune Technical and Gameplay Discussion Thread, YES, this is the combo thread so don't ask. Contained within is a comprehensive tutorial of how to play Arakune. More than just combos; we talk about movement, combo theory, curse theory, curse setup, defense, everything you need to play Arakune and develop your own style with him! With this thread, there also exists a Video Tutorial series made to coexist with this thread, made by yours truly, so all the resources you need exist in both written and video format for cross referencing.

This thread will be sectioned off into 8 parts, each part focuses on a particular aspect of playing Arakune, sorted in order of importance to learning him, the parts are as followed;

Part 0: Movement

Hi guys! Welcome to Part 0, Movement! Here we learn the importance of Arakune's movement and see some examples of Arakune's movement options!

Grrr, why is movement the first part of the thread, I don't need to learn how to move in a fighting game, where are the combos?

Ah Ha! The reason movement comes first in the thread is because quite literally, movement comes first with the character. Bear in mind that Arakune doesn't have conventional movement options, he can't run, his jump and air dash is floaty, that's enough to make moving with him a challenge if you approach him expecting conventional methods to work. This applies to both neutral and combos, positioning for combos is something most characters take for granted, but not Arakune, [IMPORTANT] in order to position yourself correctly, you need to learn how to move him properly.

Fine, you win. What do I need to know about his movement options?

Again, bear in mind that his jump is floaty, your opponent has to be aware of that too.
His air dash travels a short distance and is also floaty
Arakune has 2 air dashes off a single jump.
Arakune has command teleports (214a,b,c / j.214a,b,c), these are also useful for movement.
Arakune's forward dash can help with positioning.
If you air dash backwards at the edge of the screen, you'll wall warp to the other side.
[IMPORTANT] If you jump, air dash and hold 4 while pressing any button that doesn't alter Arakune's air trajectory, you'll float towards the ground while performing that move. This is abbreviated from here on out as j.4xx (eg. j.4a, j.4b, j.4ab, etc etc). This is your premium positioning tool.

If you're new to Arakune, the first thing you should practice is movement. Movement is 1/3rd of playing the character. Practice!

Part 1: Movelist Primer

Hi guys! Welcome to Part 1 where we briefly touch upon all of Arakune's moves!

What!? I gotta learn about his moves? I want combos!

In due time, but first you need to know at least on a basic level what his moves are and how they work, it's a bit tedious for anyone already familiar with the character, but people going in brand new will find this section very useful.

Ugh, ok let's here about his moves...

Moves will first be sorted by the most important, then will follow the format of a moves, b, moves, c moves, air a moves, air b moves, air c moves, specials, drives, supers, OD.
Throws are not included.
Astral Heal not included.

MVN - Most Important Normals

j.b

j.b is the most important because it's gonna be your typical combo starter, pressure starter, and it's just an all around good normal. j.4b is especially useful, practice this a lot, experiment with different hieghts and double jumps.

5a is the runner up, it's one of Arakune longest reaching pokes and will be the groundwork for almost anything you do, pressure, combos, curse setups, you name it!

5a > 6b

Combo staple, that's all.

5c is the primary anti air Arakune has, although slow with a few hitbox nigles, it's reliable in unconventional places and safe on block.

TON - The Other Normals

Slow 2a at 10 frames, but has farther reach than 5a, good for checking your opponent on low block. Can self gatling twice.

Underrated Overhead, although standard in speed with an obvious animation, it's even on block and jump cancelable on block too. Cool!
6a > 6b is a thing.

Slow 5b at 11 frames, combo food with small use in pressure.

Arakune's defacto anti air. Will work in places 5c will not. No invul so experiment and get the timing right! Good curse mix up tool too.

Standing low, vacuums in, used in his overhead combo and as a pretty cool curse mix up.
4b > 6b is a thing.

Traveling normal, hits 5 times and launches on 5th hit, unsafe on block, combo food and curse mix up tool.

3 part normal, 6c > 5c > 2c (or just hold 6c throughout), curse combo tool, not useful for anything else.

Obligatory sweep, unsafe on block or whiff, but tracks the opponent at certain ranges, can catch them unexpectedly and combo into curse.

The "dive", not as prevalent as it was in the CP series, but is still a neat mix up tool in curse and is useful in certain anti air combos. Dives forward

Except vs Hakumen and Tager, it's just a combo tool, nothing special.

Crush Trigger (CT)

5ab, breaks guard, standard, but can be very useful in curse just for the barrier drainage.

214a

Command Teleport, mimics a forward jump and teleports on the ground one character space in front of his previous lateral position.

Command Teleport, does the exact same thing as 214a.

214b

Command Teleport, mimics walking forward then teleports on the ground back where you performed the input.

Command Teleport, mimics j.d then teleports on the ground where a real j.d would have been summoned.

Command Teleport, mimics 6d then teleports in the air where a real 6d would have been summoned.

Command Teleport, mimics j.2b then teleports in the air four character spaces in front of his previous lateral position.

Summons a Spider that adds curse on hit or block, different button corresponds to it's summoning position.
22a summons the spider on the far left side of the screen.
22b summons the spider in the center of the screen.
22c summons the spider on the far right side of the screen.
positions are assuming p1 side, p2 sides are reversed.

Turns Arakune nearly invisible, a staple for curse mix ups.

8 hit spin move. Curse combo tool.
Could also be a curse mix up tool.

Drive

Adds curse on hit or block, you'll probably use it more on block than hit due to his different combo routes.

Adds curse on hit or block, crappy normal. Do not use.
Actually experiment with it on some curse set ups.

Great zoning, combo and oki tool.

Great zoning and combo tool. Self gatlings twice and jump cancelable now. Cool!

Does 2 things
Pre-curse, this move summons one of three clouds, one cloud floats above the opponent (air cloud), another cloud constantly homes in on the opponent (homing cloud), the last cloud hovers around Arakune (ring cloud).
Pre-curse clouds add curse meter gradually when the opponent is inside the cloud. Each cloud adds curse meter at different increments. From fastest to slowest; air cloud, homing cloud, ring cloud.
During Curse, this move summons a homing cloud that when on the opponent, it stymies all of the opponent's lateral movement.
All clouds vanish when Arakune is hit or is in a throw exchange that doesn't result in Arakune successfully throwing the opponent.

Curse Meter

When any d move or 22a/b/c hits, it adds 1/4th curse (on block it adds 1/8th curse), when the curse meter is full, curse is active. While curse is active Arakune can summon bugs by releasing a, b, c, and d. He can manipulate the summoning to the left, center and right side of the screen by holding 1,4,7 for left side, 8,2 for center, and 3,6,9 for right side.
When curse ends, the curse gauge is locked and cannot be built until the opponent is out of blockstun or out of hitstun.

A bug

Summoned by releasing a. Small bug that flies from behind the opponent and bounces on the ground. Great block stun, and vacuums the opponent in.

B bug

Summoned by releasing b. Silver bug that launches from the ground and hits 3 times.

C bug

Summoned by releasing c. Big blue bug that hops from the ground, breaks guard and must be barrier blocked.

D bug

Summoned by releasing d. Big pink moth that sonic spins into the ground then sprouts up afterwards, primary combo tool.

Supers

Reversal super and combo ender. Don't whiff this move or have it blocked, it's a bad look.

Air super that curses the opponent.

A super that can only be used during curse, summons a giant moth that flies back and forth to both edges of the screen while curse is active.
Does not go away at all until curse ends.
Can be used in the air.

Overdrive

Exceed Accel

Hitbox is on the ground, sideswaps. Does more damage in Active Flow.

Pre-curse

Curse moves add twice as much curse meter (1/2 on hit, 1/4 on block).
Any curse meter accumulated before the Overdrive becomes active and the opponent is cursed.

Curse

Curse time is slowed down significantly.

Longer curse time, naturally means the moth is on screen for a longer period of time.

Part 2: Combo Theory

Hi guys! Welcome to Part 2, here I explain combo theory and how important it is.

What's combo theory? Is it something I need to make a combo movie?

Combo theory is the awareness of your moves and how to best use them in a combo. That's the simplest way to put it.
For example, take j.4b > 5aa. Depending on where the j.4b lands the combo you do after can change significantly, combo theory helps you learn that range. Two 5a's are used to help you, the player, tell the range.
At close range: [j.4b > 5aa] > 6b > j.6d > iad delay j.b(2) > j.4c > j.d (sideswap) j.a > j.c > j.d > delay j.6a > dj.c > j.d > delay j.6a > j.236c
At farther range: [j.4b > 5aa] > 5b > 2c > 6d
Another example is 6a > 2b > 5b. The range that 6a hits can change what you do next.
At close range: [6a > 2b > 5b] > 4b > 6b > j.6d > iad delay j.b(2) > j.4c > j.d (sideswap) 6d > delay j.3d > j.6b > j.236c

[IMPORTANT] Practice the ranges of your moves, understand what works at what ranges, that's combo theory. Combo theory helps you truly understand your combos and will help you know how to confirm off of unorthodox hits.

Part 4: Curse Theory

Hi guys! Welcome to Part 4, where I explain to you just what Curse Theory is!

Yeah, that's a good place to start, exactly wtf is Curse Theory?

So curse theory is the framework of controlling yourself and your bugs during curse, it's the understanding of the bugs and how they interact with a blocking opponent. In short, [IMPORTANT] curse theory allows you to understand curse setups, and equips you with the knowledge to make up your own! Sounds cool right?

I guess.

So the first thing to understand is how to use your bugs properly and that comes with knowing how they interact with a blocking opponent.
The A bug, as mentioned in Part 1, pushes the opponent forward. Keep in mind that "forward" is different from "towards Arakune", that distinction is important for later. What this means is that if you summon an A bug, then forward dash behind your opponent, your opponent still is pushed in the same direction as if you were in front of them. Another thing to note is that the A bug has a lot of block stun, very very safe.
The B bug on block simply pushes them back, it's primary use is in combination with the A bug.
The C bug pushes your opponent towards Arakune. That means if you summon a C bug and forward dash behind your opponent, the C bug will push them towards Arakune still. This is important to his curse setups, because in CPE, the C bug pushed forward like the A bug, it made Arakune's setups very committal. Now they're a lot more stable and less committal than ever.
The D bug on block pushes your opponent back, midscreen it's uses in setups are not very reliable, in the corner, it's very strong since the opponent has no where to be pushed back into.

Neatorific. What do I do with them now that I know what they do?

Well the basis of most curse setups is to verify that your opponent is blocking first, then aim for a mix up.
The A and B bugs are the primary options to go for when checking your opponent's block, after knockdown you should have them Negative Edge'd (held down) ready to release them for safe oki. Afterwards, these bugs help keep your opponent blocking.
The C bug is the source of your mix up. It breaks guard and your opponent will try to barrier block it, the goal here is to aim for a cross up. The cross up will cross up their barrier input and break their guard, allowing you to combo from your setup.
After enough cross ups, your opponent will be prepared for them, and then you go for psuedo cross ups, which look like they will cross up, but don't, so your opponent wrongly reverses their barrier input and gets guard crushed.
Keep in mind that you still have conventional high/low options too with 6a (overhead), 2b (low), 4b (standing low), 3c (forward dash feint low), rising j.b (instant overhead), j.2a (cross up overhead), j.2b (overhead), j.214c (j.2b cross up feint), etc.
Also keep in mind that Arakune is invisible until hitbox contact is made, use that wisely and your mix up is literally invisible!

Sounds cheap.

It is, but you'll love it!

Be sure to play with Arakune's revolver actions (gatlings) to properly hide your bug summoning.

Part 6: Curse Combos and Oki

Hi guys! Welcome to Part 6 where I show you the curse combos and talk abour oki!

Yep, after a successful setup you of course have to combo them for damage and eventually go for a knockdown, the combos are as follows.

Why'd you list them as separate combos? Can't I do both versions in one combo?

Yes, you can, but it's optimal to aim for shorter combos, optimal because the total damage of 2 shorter combos does more damage and gets better knockdown than 1 full combo.

Oh, then why would I ever do the full combo?

Certain circumstances will justify a full combo.
1 is if the full combo would kill, no point risking a 2nd mix up.
2 is if there isn't enough curse meter to do 2 shorter combos

Yep, now curse oki is very simple. The setups listed in Part 5 can be used as curse oki. Keep that in mind.

What about after curse?

Depends on where you are on screen.
Midscreen the goal is for a safe return to neutral with some zoning tools out. A conventional ender is 6a > 5c > 6d > delay 236d. It's a very safe return to neutral and has a cloud out. Experiment with more options.
Corner you have more options. The goal in the corner is to set up for a re-curse after the opponent techs. A conventional and effective way to do this is by summoning a 6d during d bug 1 > d bug 2 > 6a > 6b > 236d. This way, there is a 6d meaty and a cloud on them for when they tech, pressure and/or mix up accordingly to achieve re-curse. Experiment with more options.

Aw man, blocking sucks.

Yep, that's why it's [IMPORTANT] to prioritize evasion over blocking.

Cool, now how do I do that?

Easy.
Your backdash and forward dash are important movement tools and will help evade an approaching opponent.
Command teleports will help
Wall warp

What if I get caught?

Exercise caution when evading, players familiar with the match up will know how to deal with his movement, so there are times when blocking will be inevitable/unavoidable.

What do I do when blocking?

The conventional options all characters have.
Instant blocking, useful in all cases. If you want to find a spot to mash out, want to backdash away real quick, or even just for the meter, IBing is very useful. Only IB when and where you're comfortable doing so, otherwise you might fail and get opened up unnecessarily. IBing reduces blockstun by 3 frames making it easier to get out.
Barrier blocking is for when you're not confident IBing and just want to create some distance. You cannot jump while barrier blocking and it adds 2 frames of blockstun.
Instant Barrier is for all of the above, when you are confident with IBing but still want to create some distance, it's pushes back much more than regular barrier blocking and reduces blockstun by 1 frame.

236236c, as explained in Part 1 is a reversal super, if you're sure it'll hit, then it will remind your opponent that you have it, do a fair bit of damage and give you the chance to add some curse meter to boot. Good stuff, as it should be because the risk runs very high and if baited, you can be sure you're eating a max damage CH/FC combo.
Guard Cancel Overdrive, aka Overdrive Raid, aka, GCOD is another option, with some curse meter built up you can turn the tables immediately and go on the offensive. With no meter you should wait for a spot where you can successfully whiff punish a move or EA.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How does Arakune do that cool thing when he comes downward with an air attack?

That is his j.4x moves, when you are in the middle of an air dash, hold 4 and press a, b, c, a+b (Barrier) or b+c (Grab), Arakune will float down and do the performed action.

So whenever you see these kinds of notations (j.4b, j.4aa, etc), this is what they do.

Q. Arakune's IAD is so hard, how do I do it correctly?

Arakune's air dash is very weird, because of his floaty movement and extra animations, buffering his air dash is nigh impossible. The trick to do it is so work it out slowly, jump, then press 66. Make sure you press 66, it's the only way it will work. Once you get the hang of it, try it faster and keep going until you got it.

Q. Dive Cancel, wat do?

Dive Cancelling (or DC for short) is when you cancel a dive move with another too close to the ground for it to come out. When performing a dive (j.2a/j.2b/j.2c) upon contact with the opponent, you have a 3 frame window to input another dive, when done close to the ground, it cancels and turns into a ground attack, you can then buffer/kara the attack into anything you want, so to do [j.a > j.c > j.2a > DC (Dive Cancel) 6d], once j.2a connects, you tap 2 and press b or c then press d. So it will look like 2/cd. Dive cancelling can go into any ground action/command. Remember that if you used the dive, you can't cancel with that button, for instance if you did j.2b, you cannot DC with b, you must use a or c, provided that you did not use j.2a or j.2c.

Q. His curse combos are tricky, how do I work his 6c rekka right?

The main trick is to time the 6c early, in a manner that it hits right after the d bug hits them on the way up, from there simply buffer the 5c. After that perform the 3c (not 2c) and tap 5d, this will make the c bug come out right after the rekkas and the d bug will follow.

If this method does not work for you, try this.

j.4xx - This is Arakune's air dash cancel into several buttons, usually j.b or barrier block (4a+b).

Episode 1 - Offense

Part 0. Pre-curse Pressure & Zoning

Arakune's combos work in two separate areas, pre-curse and curse. Obviously, the goal of Arakune is to get his opponent cursed and do massive damage/guard crush/mixup/cross up/win.
During pre-curse he really isn't meant to have any real pressure. That said, pressuring with Arakune is difficult and you should never get ahead of yourself. His basic strings can be DP'd through and jumped out of, so it's best to keep many of your strings short and sweet. Arakune's main up point is taking advantage of the opponent's impatience while you zone them with Arakune's many projectiles, however, contact may come eventually and for up close pressure, here are his options and gatlings to go to. For using his gatlings to their fullest potential, refer to the gatling table (Revolver Action Table) in the frame data, looking at the frame data itself is also very helpful.

5a is Arakune's best poke, almost 100% of his pressure will start with a 5a. It's important to understand that Arakune's 5a, 2a and j.a can only be done 3 times in between gatlings. This has existed since CT. If 5a ever confirms, you have options, refer to Part 1.
2a is Arakune low and is one of his longest reaching normals. The downside is that it's one of the slower 2a, in fact it's the slowest (10f), do not use this in neutral. 2a strings usually go with 5a (5a > 2a > 5a > 2a). This is a good string to use to see if the opponent thinks an overhead is coming. If 2a ever hits, you can go into almost any combo that you could with 5a.
6a is Arakune's overhead. Only use this if your opponent is conditioned. There are no strings that safely go into Arakune's overhead. If you manage to get it to connect you have options. First, 6a is jump cancellable on block, you can jump and run away, resume pressure or whatever.
2b is what you'll only use to make 6a safe, but it's +2 on block and gatlings into 5b, which is also +2. 6a > 2b > 5b is an air tight block string and on hit you can follow up with 2c > 6c.
j.b is Arakune's best pressure tool, it's used to close in on barrier blocking and to maintain pressure against chicken blocking. The other side of the coin is that it's not jump cancellable anymore. It now gatlings into 5a to help with pressure. To add to your options you can "j.c cancel" which basically means performing j.c near the ground to quicken your descent greatly and confuse the opponent.
j.a is Arakune's main air to air pressure tool, he can't do much for air to air pressure, the primary option is to back off and start zoning.

Arakune's pressure game can be down-right scary when implemented right, on the other hand doing it too aggressively will get you DP'd or mashed out. The best quote for this predicament is ~

Arakune brings out the desperate scrub in everyone.
If you get too fancy with mixup you'll get blown up by reversals and mashing.

IMPORTANT: That said, it's important to find the right moderation between physical pressure and zoning. Zoning, when it comes to Arakune, is very situational and the effectiveness and leniency of it depends on how conditioned/desperate your opponent is, in many cases it's a judgment call, but here is a rundown of zoning tools and their practical applications of them.

j.236d is what you're primary zoning goto option is going to be. It's random between a homing cloud, a cloud shield that follows and stays around Arakune, and a cloud that stays above the opponent. It adds 1/3 curse meter on contact and disappears in an opposing grab dispute or if Arakune takes a hit. Each cloud has it's own uses. The homing cloud is the best one for just about every situation, since it actively pursues the opponent, their neutral is compromised and this allows you to take advantage of their plight. The cloud shield is the second best one, it makes your opponent second guess being close to you, it makes them space their attacks well and leave holes in their strings to prevent coming in contact with the cloud. You can threaten your opponent just by moving around them. The least useful one is the anti-air cloud, as it's very slow, so fast characters can outrun it, any character that can IAD can IAD under it, and Tager doesn't really need to be in the air. It usually takes a super jump or a double jump for contact to be made. On the plus side, it discourages jumping when close to Arakune, so many players will resort to anti-airs and ground movement, overall limiting their movement options. Try not to use this move too close to the opponent, it has notable start up and recovery.
j.d is the second zoning tool that you'll use in the air, this tool is more of a yomi tool than general neutral, as it can be jumped on reaction and it has it's blind spots with each version you'll use. Close up you can follow up for 2/3 curse meter though. For longer ranges, j.d is more of a spacing tool to control the real estate.
2d is a pretty good zoning tool for ground approaches and pressure against barrier blocking, it's very unsafe at any range, so don't get carried away.
6d still retains it's use as a zoning tool, creating a spot in the middle of the battlefield that the opponent has to be careful around. It stymies approach methods and is good for getting Arakune some much need space for further zoning. Use full screen only, it can be punished anywhere else. If you're facing down a zoner, do it as far away from the opponent as the game can allow if you can help it. Most zoners can't punish at maximum character distance.
22a/b/c is a new move that summons a spider in a corresponding place on the screen, it's useful as the animation is the exact same and can hit fullscreen unlike j.6d. Combined with 6d and/or cloud, this move makes for a powerful zoning tool.

Part 2. Curse Combos

Curse is an entirely different dimension for Arakune, it turns his low attack levels, slow moves, and mediocre static difference into horrifying mix up, unblockable resets and of course, ridiculous damage, this is the meat of Arakune's gameplay.
Once the curse gauge reaches 100% it will go down, this is the time to summon bugs and put your "deal with it" shades on, but be warned, the curse gauge goes down with each bug you summon, so use them wisely. Also, try not to get hit when your opponent is cursed. Refer to the frame data for the specific numbers.
A bug: A small bug that flies over the opponent's head at medium speed, disappears on contact with an opponent or a rival projectile. Decent hit and blockstun.
B Bug: A not-so-small bug that also flies over Arakune's head. Fast, fastest bug Arakune can summon, 3 hits, launches. Good for pressure and some confirms.
C bug: That notorious blue bug that comes out of the ground and bites you, the slowest bug Arakune can summon, but enormous hitstop, combo staple.
D bug: The pink larva that dives from the sky and flies up as a beautiful and deadly moth, combo stable, last hit before submerging in the ground gives untechable knockdown. Moth is air unblockable and launches.
41236a: A curse exclusive special cloud that substantially slows the opponent's horizontal movement. Tailor-made for preventing your opponent from running away and oki.
All bugs vanish if Arakune is taking damage, Arakune cannot summon if he is down, taking damage or in blockstun (however you can summon bugs in the few frames in between blockstrings in which you are not in blockstun). IMPORTANT: Another important thing to mention is Negative Edging (NEing), Arakune's curse combos, set ups, tech traps and oki all rely on some degree of NEing. practice holding down a button and releasing it to summon a bug and be sure to practice summoning it on different sides of the screen using the directional inputs (4,1,3,and 6). When NEing is required in a combo or set up, the button will be shown in brackets ([cd]), this means to press and hold the button down, when it's time to release the button, the notation will display it in reverse brackets, complete with the input you are supposed to hold down (6]cd[). If there are no directional inputs shown, then it is neutral (5).

There are different ways to optimize your curse combos, usually the difference between them is positioning (corner carry) and remaining curse meter. That said there are 2 primary combos.

Tips and Advice

When performing j.236[cd] > 6]cd[, wait about a half second before releasing the c and d buttons, this'll stabilize the combo.
On some characters, j.236[cd] > 6]cd[ connect with the opponent not properly positioned for the d bug 2 to pick them up. you can resolve this by either walking forward, pushing the opponent in place, or after d bug 1 has finished, execute a well timed 6 so they'll fly into the d bug 2.

When performing 6c > 5c > 2cd, first do this right after d bug 2, second, buffer the second rekka input so it'll be more like 6cc > 2cd, this way the c bug won't be summoned too early. Take a look at the Q&A thread for some more advice.

Part 3. Curse Set Ups

IMPORTANT: Before you lay the smackdown of their candy asses, you need to mix them up and confirm into a curse combo. Again, be sure to practice NEing, most set ups can be done with little to no NE'ing, but there will be times when it might be necessary. Since the d bug has two individual times of connecting with the opponent, it's broken down to "d bug 1", when the d bug if descending, and "d bug 2", when it takes flight. When you see "d bug" without numbers, that assumes that the entire d bug does it's thing without anything in between.

To understand mix ups to their fullest potential, refer to the gatling table (Revolver Action Table) in the frame data.
Curse set ups will be broken down into midscreen and corner - then by the combo ender you used to ACTIVATE CURSE. Text in red is optional, underlined text is assumed to be blocked. The format will be;

Episode 2 - Defense

Part 0. Movement

All, the pokes and zoning doesn't mean anything if you can't control Arakune correctly. Proper movement is key to Arakune, you have to know when and where you're moving. Arakune has a variety of movement options to choose from, his iconic j.4a+b, his backdash, his forward dash, his command teleports and his j.6x moves. All these are useful and very effective when used in the right circumstance.

j.4a+b is Arakune's main way of getting around the place. It's very important to know where you're going to land, because it affects your opponent's position too in many cases, especially when they are pursuing you. You can do any neutral air command instead of barrier to perform an aerial attack while moving the same way.

Backdash is Arakune "get away" tool. It has frame 1 full invul, so it's good for IBing and wakeup to get out of pressure. It's also useful in baiting DPs and creating confusing curse mix up by making your opponent guess which dash you performed. When using it defensively, be careful, it can be baited and punished. Forward dash is a high risk, okay reward tool for Arakune, in many cases, often in between staggers involving slow start up attacks it boldly returns the fight to neutral (and gets you out of the corner). Just like backdash, it good for cross ups (and fake cross ups) during curse pressure. His command teleports are a pure situational thing as your opponent responds to it differently and sometimes, you could be better off not using it at all. Practical uses include evasion (j.44 at a wall) and curse cross ups/pressure. Using it in neutral or to gain an approach, you have to pay close attention to your opponent's habits and make a call. These moves have start up and recovery and the invincibility they get (during the teleport) at times isn't very helpful, but it all depends on the type of teleport you chose. Just be careful, you could eat a lot of damage, lose momentum, round or a match if the wrong call is made. But the reward could be great too. j.6x is the bird move you see at times, it good for confusing the opponent and throwing off their positioning, it's also good to change where you land, in case your current landing spot is unfavorable, it's the move that makes sure that (to an extent) you don't have to commit to where you chose to dash. It's also good for making quick forward momentum in the air, whenever you may need it.

Part 2. Wake-up

Arakune lacks viable wake-up tools that makes the opponent second guess themselves. He has a few tools, but most of them come at an exhaustible cost, remember that there is no excuse to make up for bad defense. Learn to block and break throws, at times this will be your best wake-up option.

Backdash is the option you'll resort to the most and it's the one you can do whenever you want. On one hand it gets out of your opponent's oki midscreen and allows you a safe retreat. On the other hand it's useless in the corner and can be baited and punished anywhere by every character. Even Tager. Backdash wisely.

Overdrive Activation allows you a few frame of invul, depending on the move that whiffs, you have an unburstable punish into easy curse. f inverse (236236c) is another good option, combos into 70% curse on hit and kills meaties. Be mindful that it costs 50 heat and unless you have 100 heat to RC, you're committing, this means you're in it for hit, block and whiff. Long recovery too. Mashing is always an option (though obviously effectiveness will vary). It's good to use if you notice your opponent take too long with their oki with a long start up or in general miss their timing with a meaty. Be wary of frame traps however. Forward dash is a ballsy trick to try when your opponent is trying a badly timed aerial approach. Good in the corner as well.

Any Arakune related talk that doesn't revolve around videos/changes from *previous version of BB* to *current version of BB*/combos, examples include but not excluded to, Netplay/Ranbat shenanigans, story related stuff, music related stuff, colors, artworks, etc etc.
Netplay Match making - Come here if you want to fight an Arakune player online.
Bitching and moaning about Arakune, either x change he received or how much of a bullshit character he is and how he shouldn't be in the game butthurp etc etc. Though I warn you, don't let it get to an argument. Take the cat fights to PMs.
