Hi there.

Welcome to the 'RANDOM' DL 808 thread.

As you can see, posting activity in here is sporadic cause only a few people actually post up, much less actually play ANIMU FGs here in Hawaii, lol.

If you have any Q's, just ask.

We also dabble/scrub about in GG some.

:yaaay:

What chars do you play?

What chars do you play?

Thanks for the welcome. I'll try and get Lunar to post as well. Hawaii gaming scene feels dead these days. We're not good at ALL as far as GG goes. xD Neither of us really know combos or anything, like I said, scrub playing. =P

But I guess my main in GG would be Millia as my "main" and Bridget as my "sub". Lunar's "main" is Jam and her "sub" is Baiken. Although..neither of us really play enough to really know for sure who we enjoy most. We're more into BB these days, mostly cause we don't have a console version of GG. (PSP version....hate playing on that thing's d-pdad man. xD)

*is dragged in by Solar* @___@;;;;

I only played GG because some of our friends introduced it to us (kinda how we shifted into BB but we'd rather play BB than GG)....I started out with A.B.A. >___>;;; but I kinda like Jam and Baiken....I dunno, I kinda like Baiken more, but I haven't...played that game long enough to figure out combos or what any of her moves do. I'll probably pop it into my PSP sometime and play when I catch the bus to work or something. Used to do that with BB PSP all the time ._.;;;

IMO, Hawaii's FG scene is currently like this:

Capcom

- SSF4

- Other FGs like 3S, MvC2, etc.

Namco

- T6

ANIMU FGs

- GG

- MB

- AH

- BB

- PC donjon FGs

A lot of people are playing SSF4 and/or T6.

Only a few people are actually playing GG, MB, and to an extent BB.

How the ANIMU FGs break down:

(in regard to this thread anyway, lol)

2 people mainly play GG.

1 person mainly plays MB and at least 2 other people play some MB.

1 person who mainly plays BB is only visiting Hawaii for the summer, 1 person is interested in learning BB, and now the 2 of you who play BB.

RANDOM: 2 people play AH and some DB, LOL.

IMO, ANIMU FGs in regard to the rest of the 808 FG scene:

- Only 2 people are actually playing GG and post up to talk about it.

- Only a few people are actually playing MB and somewhat post up to talk about it, lol.

- Outside of a few people(?), no one really plays BB as their main FG (AFAIK, most people play BB as a side game), much less post up to talk about it, and even then RANDOMLY.

I could go on but I'll save it for another time, lol.

GG stuff:

- I play Dizzy, some ABA, and some RANDOM chars including Millia, Jam, and Baiken.

- BearsWithKnives plays Axl, some May, and some RANDOM chars.

- I am down for GG casuals when I fly up to Oahu, lol.

- Bears is usually down for GG casuals.

- More GG players would be nice, lol.

If either of you are interested in learning GG and have any Q's about stuff, just ask.

BB stuff:

- Mystic d is usually down for BB casuals but IIRC he's leaving Hawaii at the end of summer.

- Akureikaze is somewhat down for BB casuals, though he'd rather play MB instead, lol.

- I think Hi-Risk might be down for BB casuals... if he's not playing SSF4, lol.

- I think Bears is somewhat okay with BB casuals, though he'd rather play GG instead, lol.

- I don't play BB, LOL.

Yeah, most people I know around here who play BB are casual players. The rest are all Street Fighter or Tekken people. I never understood SF, a whole huge cast sure enough, but once you learn one character in the game, you can pretty much play with anyone else semi-decently lol. Kinda boring IMO. And Tekken feels sorta weird and slow.

GG I'd play more heavily once they get a new next-gen console version I can assure you. (I've heard rumors!! <<;; Let us hope.) BB will probably always be my main FG though, it's the one that got me into FGs seriously. (I...haven't been playing FGs very seriously for long..maybe since about...April...of this year...*fail*...)

Wish I knew, need more 808 people up in here.

That'd be nice if other 808 people played GG, MB, BB, etc.

Oh, wait...

Other 808 people don't really play ANIMU FGs in Hawaii...

Except for a few people anyway.

Why?

ANIMU FGs are SRS BSNS.

Especially GG and MB, which are HYPE.

Dunno about BB though, since it is LOLZ.

Do the 2 of you have some offline comp for BB?

Posted

808 FG people wanna stick what they know, spamming their hadoukens and shoryukens over and over...fast paced gameplay? NONSENSE. No need fo' dat eh? Ho bra we stay on HAWAIIAN TIME...

As far as offline...other then each other and our not-so-serious-about-this friends? Not really. >.<;; There were maybe...very scarce people we've caught down at Hawaiian Brian's the few times we went there...who were semi-decent at Calamity Trigger, only like....2 good and one sorta eh. A good Tager and a sorta decent Litchi, and a terribad Taokaka who acted elite then got destroooyed by one of my idiot spamming friends for the lulz.

IMO, I think the main reasons why people in the 808 don't play ANIMU FGs are: interest and support.

Eh, whatever... To each their own, right?

We kinda had a discussion going on about local FG scene stuff in Hawaii a few pages back. If you are interested, check it out sometime.

As far as ANIMU FGs in the 808 go, IMO it's like this:

- GG has a high barrier of entry.

- MB/AH has a niche following.

- BB is casual friendly.

Of these FGs, BB is probably the most accessible to play. AFAIK though, not that many people really play BB much less support it, in Hawaii anyway. Oh well...

It's been awhile since I've said this but:

808 BB IS SADLIFE

LOL

I might as well ask:

Do the 2 of you hope for an offline BB scene here in the 808?

Posted

At this point? I can't say I really have any hope for one because I know the likelihood of there actually BEING one is like, slim...so no. It'd be awesome if there were, but I have to agree with the statement, 808 BB is indeed...sadlife. We'll probably be moving in like, a year or two anyways though so it doesn't matter to me a whole lot.

I see no reasons for arcades around here to bother getting CS machines, since no one around here really plays BB seriously. I have a few scattered friends who play it some, but I honestly do not know a single person other then my roommate who plays it beyond casual level. It's pretty damn lame...but eh what can you do?

Been looking into Guilty Gear, but as it seems, it wouldn't be the best idea for me to start playing guilty gear because of its big entry barrier. Just wanted to get some input as to whether or not I should stay away from even playing the damn thing. And if I had to choose someone I'm interested in, it'd probably be Potemkin or A.B.A. Thanks for any feedback you guys got.

TBH I think that the biggest problem with BB here in Hawaii is the lack of support. Though there may be a few people that actually play BB here in the 808, IMO no one really represents it here in Hawaii. It's probably due to the fact that there isn't really much of a local scene for the game because AFAIK no one is really pushing for BB to be played, except for a few people that actually play BB?

That, and another issue BB has going against it in regards to support is because of GG.

If the 808 GG players (all 2 of them) don't really play/support BB, there must be something really wrong with BB that makes the GG players not want to take the game seriously, at all. LOL

Who are you and what island are you on? lol

Hmmm...

If you are somewhat interested in playing GG, try it out for yourself and see if you like playing it.

That's about it.

Sorry, I missed a lot haven't I? DDDX

Offline BB play? I have seen a few people who play it at Hawaiian Brians, but I don't know who they are or how serious they are. BB is sadlife, I have to agree. We got into BB due to some events at KawaiiKon, and I heard 'Blazblue' mentioned to me more times than 'Guilty Gear' to be honest. I've been trying to get into GG recently, just I'm not addicted to it as BB, probably since I haven't been following what's up or who the characters are so we'll see.

Tekken 6 and SFIV seem to be the FG of 808...I remember some of my "friends" back in HS were so into SF...but I really can't get myself to like that game compared to BB, even GG. I have bought both games, even SSFIV...and I can't play that game for more than 10 minutes really before I get tired of it and want to turn it off.

Funny you should mention Kawaii-Kon...

IIRC there were 2 gaming things going on at the Kon:

- Kawaii-Kon's gaming room.

- HVGL gaming event.

An HVGL guy that Bears and I know decides to run GG at the Kon.

We were like, :psyduck:

"You're better off running BB cause no one besides myself, Bears, and a friend of ours actually plays GG, lol."

So our friend goes down there to play some GG. When I ask him later how it went he tells me that Bears and I didn't miss much; mostly RANDOMS and stuff, lol.

SSF4... :v:

I haven't played that game since late May/early June.

I am from Oahu and I've been going to UH for the past couple of years, but yeah, wanted to get into fighting games and supposedly GG is the king of all fighting games. Also just like the overall style of the game. What would you recommend as the best of way of trying the game out, should I get a fightpad? I also have a PS2, or a high end computer. I realize that the competition is in face to face, so would it be worthwhile to gain a skillset when I have no one to use it against?

Posted

Yeah. I remember the mention of the HVGL event, but only heard about the RB tournament. I only went there like once or twice playing Rockband for like, a few minutes lol. Other then that we actually never even went to the gaming room really...

And we have SSFIV but we've only played it scattered times before we were like "Wha.." and turned it off.

What would you recommend as the best of way of trying the game out

- Watch some GGAC matches on YT to see the game in action.

- Pick up a copy of GGAC for PS2.

- Try the game out for yourself: practice a chars' moves in training mode and play some arcade/vs cpu mode. Basically, try to get a grasp for how GG plays.

- PS2 controller is fine for starting out. Don't worry about peripherals like fightpads or sticks just yet.

Your first hurdle to clear will be to see if you actually like playing GG enough before you consider to take the game more seriously.

If you have any other Q's about GG stuffs, just ask.

Oh, and welcome to the 808 thread.

HVGL tried to run some BB stuffs in the past. Sadly, no one really played the game there, save for some RANDOM moments with some people somewhat playing BB, lol.

Ay wats up hawaii. Seems like yal got more fg players (not many gg players tho lol). Yo az is fuckin nice althought all the gg players are a 100 miles away. But I did get to play latif and won one round out of 20 matches. The best dude in phx could only get one round to so iam proud as hell. Dude's fuckin crazy good and he use eddie..... but I only played gg about 5 times since I been here and been playin ssf4 3 times a week. Anyways ill be back in a month or two. Has hvgl been having gg casuals?

There is gonna be BlazBlue CS at the PC Gamerz thing in Kaneohe tonight.

For Offline play, I'm always willing to play :S

Myself included, since I'm still a MB player. (Despite not having really played it for almost close to a year already. lul)

You have some balls to make that statement when it seems like you have no idea who even plays it in Hawaii.

Get outside some more.

Sup man.

Yeah, it's been kinda lively in here even though it's still somewhat RANDOM posting, lol. Mostly BB players though for the 'nonexistent BB scene' here in Hawaii (lol), but there's at least one person (maybe others?) who's somewhat interested in playing GG, which I hope they do. Have you attended any sessions in AZ with the local GG players there or have you been playing too much BB/SSF4 instead? LOL. If you ever get to play the sisters at GG, they are from Hawaii as well.

Good stuff in playing with Latif. I remember when I went up to EVO 2K7, I got to play Yossan, a JPN I-No player, and I was able to take 1 round off of him in 10 matches so I can somewhat relate, lol.

No one, except you and Bears (and me RANDOMLY) plays GG at HVGL, lol. Only SSF4 gets played there. Not even BB, but no one really plays that game either, save for a few people?

Just post up when you are back in Oahu or whenever you wanna talk story, that's cool too.

What? BBCS casuals at a SSF4 tourney? Madness. LOL

Bring an MBAA setup so people can play a more HYPE ANIMU FG than BBCS.

But who would play it other that you, beasting on peeps with your Nanaya...

I might as well ask:

Who do you think would have pushed for BB to be played and take it seriously?

This is out of the people that you've played BB with.

RANDOM MB stuffs:

- Any chance of a 808 thread revival on Melty Bread, even though you and I would probably be the only people active in that topic? lol.

- What's your outlook on MBAA:CC stuffs in general? Mainly any changes to Aoko since we both use her.

- I play MBAA every once in a while to practice combos and stuff. Somewhat looking for another char to add to my roster.

You mean this Labor Day Weekend? Kinda short notice there, lol.

Your arcade option(s) for BBCT: HBB and maybe Leeward Bowl.

Your arcade option(s) for SF4: FunWorks @ Ala Moana, maybe HBB, Pearlridge Fun Factory.

TBH, I dunno if anyone would be down to play CT since CS is available and all. Maybe the same with SF4 since SSF4 is available.

If you want SSF4 casuals, check out SRK's 808 thread. DL's 808 thread is mostly for ANIMU FGs like GG and some BB stuffs, lol.

Also, I dunno if you got my question from a few pages back but here it is again:

Does anyone on Maui play GG?
