Rigel Cyrosea Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 I'm posting this in the hopes that there actually are people in this city besides me who play GG/BB. Maybe there's a real scene and I just don't know about it? (I can hope ) I'm pretty bad at both games, but I enjoy them a lot and I want to get better. It's kinda hard to do that when my only options are my scrubby, reluctant roommates or laggy online play. So, if there's anyone out there from Ottawa, speak up!
talking_chicken Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 I'm in the Kanata area if you're interested. I don't consider myself to be very good either, but I'm also new to the area (I came from BC on a work term) and I'm willing to take any non-laggy competition I can get, given that I don't see any other Ottawa threads. :p I play BBCS Lambda, mostly. I don't play GG seriously, but I also play SSF4 a fair bit. Let me know if you want to play and we can possibly arrange something. I should mention that I'm on the PS3 version and I only have a PS3 stick (+ 1 pad) with me, though.
Rigel Cyrosea Posted September 12, 2010 Author Posted September 12, 2010 Hey, good to know there's some other people around. I only got into BB when CS came out, so I don't have much experience with it, but I'm enjoying it so far. I play Rachel in BB. GG I've played more, but I haven't practiced since BB came out, pretty much. :P I've only got the xbox version, but no stick yet anyway. I didn't feel like I needed on for GG, since I actually liked the pads I was using, but the horrible xbox controller has made me decide to get a stick. Once I can afford it, anyway.
talking_chicken Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 I personally don't think the 360 pad is as bad as people say (I have two friends that can play both on a 360 pad and stick, and can actually do pretty well with either), but to each their own. I have a PS3 pad if you don't mind playing with that, though. I have GGAC+ on the Wii as well, though I only have 1 stick for that, too, and no classic controller or anything. Bear in mind that I completely suck at the game given that the only thing I really know about how to play the game well is certain character's special moves and how to do really, really simple combos with them. :P I would have had a second PS3 stick with me, but unfortunately the boxes I was packing to get out here were well overweight already and I didn't think I would need it. Besides, the people back home that I left it with would probably get more use out of it than I will. Oh, well, what can you do.
unsanctifier Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 I may visit Ottawa sometime this year, I'd totally be down for playing some more BB on my vacation!
Rigel Cyrosea Posted September 14, 2010 Author Posted September 14, 2010 Yeah, a PS3 pad would probably be just fine, and I'm fine with bringing/using my own pad for GG anyway.
talking_chicken Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 All right, we'll have to work out a time and place sometime. I don't know if it can be out here; it depends on if my landlord will let me have guests over or not (it's a semi-shared suite, so I don't want it bothering him), but I can ask him about it. I'm pretty sure it'll be okay, but if not, we can work something out.
Rigel Cyrosea Posted September 15, 2010 Author Posted September 15, 2010 Well, my place would be fine in terms of having guests. My landlord is away for the month, and even if he wasn't, he's very laid back. The only problem is that I don't have a PS3, so your stick wouldn't work unless you lugged your PS3 out here. I live out by Algonquin College, btw.
talking_chicken Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 I don't mind lugging the PS3; it's travelled quite a bit in the eight and a half months I've had it. :P They're pretty easy to stuff in a backpack. I'm down in the Glen Cairn area, and for the distance it is, Algonquin is surprisingly easy to get to from here by public transit. It's only one bus somehow. We'll have to plan something this weekend.
Freezerburn Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 Where the hell was this thread when I was living in Ottawa? You'll find a couple of people who play BBCS at SRK's regional threads. I've tried my best to get the game rolling and there are some devouts but not nearly as I liked. Still, it's a solid and growing scene so you should even check them out at SRK (I'll redirect them to this thread too). While it's not an official game, BBCT made a pretty good appearance at Battle Royale LAN. I assume BBCS is going to do the same. Even if it isn't, I'll be bringing my setup. I'd play some of you guys if I had my 360 setup but until then, have fun finding more players!
ImperialSport Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 Hello everyone, A couple friends and I live in the west end [merivale/baseline area] and play BBCS. We are always looking for competition.
Rigel Cyrosea Posted September 15, 2010 Author Posted September 15, 2010 Cool. I'm going to Battle Royal (for SCII, but no reason I can't play BBCS there too). You guys up for doing something this weekend? I've got an SCII College League match Saturday evening, but Friday/Sunday are both open. A couple friends and I live in the west end [merivale/baseline area] and play BBCS. We are always looking for competition. Not far from me at all. I'm near Baseline and Woodroffe.
talking_chicken Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 Battle Royale sounds awesome. I'll have to sign up when registration goes up again. I'll go for SSF4, at least, and BBCS if other people are playing it. I am definitely up for something this weekend. I'm fine with it being closer to where you guys are; I don't really want too many people in the house I've got here right now.
Freezerburn Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 I think there's something going on this friday around Prince of Wales and Meadowlands.
ImperialSport Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Not far from me at all. I'm near Baseline and Woodroffe. Sweet. I'm down.
Rigel Cyrosea Posted September 17, 2010 Author Posted September 17, 2010 (edited) Alright, how's Sunday, 1:00PM at my place for everyone? I live at just off baseline. I've got a couple of TVs here and both a Wii and a 360, but no sticks. If you're taking the bus here, the 118 goes right by, or you can get off from anything at Baseline station and it's less than fifteen minutes to walk. The place is a one story house + basement, me and my roomates are on the main floor, so come in the front door. Edited December 13, 2010 by Rigel Cyrosea
talking_chicken Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 I'm down. I can bring my PS3, 1 pad and 1 stick. Depending on how much I can carry, I might take a Wii stick along with me, too. Do you have TvC? I might bring it with me for the heck of it.
Rigel Cyrosea Posted September 17, 2010 Author Posted September 17, 2010 Nope, don't have it. Never tried it, in fact, but feel free to bring it along. I don't have SF4 either, (I know, terrible...), but an xbox copy wouldn't have been very useful anyway. :P
LaNX3 Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 I'm from Ottawa and although I'm not living there right now, I do come back fairly often and would definitely be interested in playing, if you guys happen to be doing anything when I'm around.
talking_chicken Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Nope, don't have it. Never tried it, in fact, but feel free to bring it along. I don't have SF4 either, (I know, terrible...), but an xbox copy wouldn't have been very useful anyway. :P That's fine; I've got SSF4 with me, and a couple of other random things downloaded to the PS3. I'll take that stuff along for kicks, too.
Rigel Cyrosea Posted September 17, 2010 Author Posted September 17, 2010 I have plans on Sunday =[. Well, we could go for Saturday at 1:00 instead possibly. I have that match at 7:00 and I was planning on practicing for it during the day, but I could always do that tonight instead. If I hear from you and talking_chicken that 1:00 on Sat would work, then we'll do that, if not I guess I'll stick to the 1:00 on Sunday plan.
talking_chicken Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Either day is fine with me. My free time outside of work is generally wide open given that I'm only working right now and I barely know anyone here.
Rigel Cyrosea Posted September 19, 2010 Author Posted September 19, 2010 Yep, today at 1:00. See ya a couple of hours. :P
