sinder Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Also if anybody can give me a solution that works I will love you for all eternity
NecroTheReaper Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Did you see how much someone would buy your busted ps3 for? Price dropped to 150 used at gamestop, so I know they're definitely a lot more affordable than before, as I just bought my ps3 today. As for help with specific parts, I don't know of I could be much help there.
sinder Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 thanks necro. I might just go to a shop. if I do buy ANOTHER ps3 it will def be new which is pricet but I would risk new clothes for CP right now
Pen_Ninja Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 I had a look online and a bunch of places are saying that there's no individual network card in the PS3, it's all integrated into the motherboard... The issue is that it makes it pretty much impossible to replace without replacing the entire PS3. I also looked for some other dodgy way to get online with USB or something. No luck without your ethernet port however Sorry
sinder Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 thanks guys. I might just buy Phoenix wright while I cry. hopefully black Friday will give good pss3 deals :D. stay positive. invent new tech for me!!!
Psykotik Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Damn, sinder, sorry to hear that, hope you can get that sorted out soon :< In other news, I locked up all the old M-U threads. New ones should be up by tomorrow.

Diveman Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Been trying to learn Carl since CS2 lol but never actually had the time to do it until now. I checked the combo thread and watched some videos but, as you said since he has so many routes I feel there's too much info to digest (and I feel some of them I'm not gonna use that often) so I was wondering if you could help me out and tell me where should I start with this character. Thanks a lot.
Psykotik Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 (edited) I updated the OP w/rules. Common sense rules are common sense; don't be a dick and you'll be fine Been trying to learn Carl since CS2 lol but never actually had the time to do it until now. I checked the combo thread and watched some videos but, as you said since he has so many routes I feel there's too much info to digest (and I feel some of them I'm not gonna use that often) so I was wondering if you could help me out and tell me where should I start with this character. Thanks a lot. The combo thread's a bit unorganized atm, I'm going to sort the combos to be make a bit more accessible but in the meanwhile, try starting with these: •- 2A, 5B, 6B, 623C, 2D, bachdash, 5C, j.B, j.2C, j.B, JC, j.B, j.2C, j.C, 8D •- 5B, 6B, 623C, 2D, backdash, 5C, j.B, j.C, 6D, 5C, j.B, JC, j.B, j.2C, j.C, 8D, land, 3C •- 6C, 5B, 623C, 421D, 5C, j.B, j.C, 46D, 5C, j.B, j.2C, j.B, JC, j.B, j.C, 8D (this is a bit harder than the above two) Don't worry too much about the routes, this is something you'll learn while practicing BnBs: some parts of Carl's combos are interchangeable and as you practice combos, you'll learn what can connect to what and from thereon, you'll learn how to improvise combos off random stuff without too much effort. Pen_Ninja Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 (edited) Mission 30: 623C 5 times... Wtf? I can get 3 due to rapid cancels but once they're off the ground there's no way to re-stand? Edited October 26, 2013 by Pen_Ninja
NecroTheReaper Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Can you 46D before they launch? I'm waiting for my psn card so I cant test yet
Pen_Ninja Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Unfortunately not... I've tried every Ada attack both in and out of overdrive trying to cancel the launch with no luck. I looked to see if I could build enough meter to RC another 2 times but I get to about 15 heat... No luck with crush trigger either Edit: Wait wait wait... 41236D works... But I think it needs to hit on the sane frame as the launch which seems like a glitch of sorts EDIT 2!!! I got it! I had to abuse the glitch sort of thing where if you hit them out of anima early they stay standing. So after that, much like Persona, they give you the intended solution as an example. So I watched it and it's pretty BS.......... It turns out that the "glitch" I used is totally intended?
Psykotik Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 (edited) ^ That looks pretty hard, I already have enough trouble doing the Anima restand with j.2c Also, is it just me or is it harder to do wakeup Brio? I got 6D a lot whenever I wake to wakeup Brio. I've been hearing something about some characters having wonky inputs for their DPs and something similar. Maybe Carl's also one of the characters affected by this? Of course, it could just be me being a scrub lol EDIT: Ok, seems like you really have to hit on 3 at the end and make sure you stay there until the negative edge. RIP input leniency. Edited October 26, 2013 by Psykotik
Pen_Ninja Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 The inputs feel a lot more strict than they used to which is a problem for me because I have relatively sloppy execution (doing 6236 for DP for example). I have been having some trouble with Ada not doing what I want but I feel like it's been getting better. On day 1 I had her doing a 4D when I did 22D sometimes... Is it possible that the ]D[ input isn't being read as quickly and it's reading 224]D[ instead of 22]D[4? As for the combo above, it's fairly easy to do my version. 2B has enough active frames to make it relatively lenient really. Start practicing with 5C maybe because it stays out for a while and then move on from there. I'm currently working on getting 2A to connect properly more often so I can do a high proration combo into anima, 2A then throw for the reset. The issue is getting the 2A timing down though.
Raiza57 Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Shiro asked if anyone else is have trouble pulling off the UB setup on Ragna, said he hunches over to far when he gets hit by j2c to delay the ja? so Carl is close enough to the ground to hit ragna with it. But because of how long you need to delay, hitstun wears off. Just against Ragna, everyone else in the game seems to get hit just fine.
Psykotik Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 I haven't had any trouble with Ragna. The only troublesome character for me so far was Hazama (j.2C kept whiffing after AD j.AAAA/j.ABA) but I kinda found ways to get around that. So it seems that if a projectile collides with 8D, the hitbox on it actually disappears and the opponent can go through it. It just happened to me for the first time a while ago and I was taken aback for a moment when I saw it. Has it always been like this?
NecroTheReaper Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 I was gonna ask that question when I fought a Rachel a while back xD it happened to me in extend, pumpkin was winded through 8D and Rachel came flying through the wave animation

Akiro Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Damn, transitioning from extend to CP is alot harder than I thought it would be rofl, I'm at at complete loss of what I should be doing in terms of midscreen C-O-N combos so I've just been running through challenge mode repeatedly so I can get a feel for Carl again. Any tips on what I should be learning in terms of BnBs and UB setups?

As for UB setups, here's a few "beginner" ones - 2A, 5B, 2B, 5C, 46D, jump, delayed AD, j.ABA, j.2C, j.AA, [j.B+3D] - (j.C/j.2C), 5B, 2B, 5C, 6D, j.B, 2A, 5A, 5B, 5C, 46D, jump, delayed AD, j.ABA, j.2C, j.AA, [j.B+3D] One thing to note about CP is that there's an increased emphasis on utilizing known combo theory as opposed to just doing listed combos. The combos above are a good starting point and as you start to get familiar with them, you'll be able to add/take out/exchange parts of the combo to the point where you're almost freestyling your own combos.
wiredgod Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 How much does Carl suffer from online play? I haven't tested this yet.
NecroTheReaper Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Maybe, but Psykotic was able to beat me with what seemed like no issue :O I knew I'd get beaten, so maybe I wa playin worse than usual but still xD
Psykotik Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Heh, winning with a character online doesn't mean netplay doesn't affect him Necro lol. To answer your question Wiredgod, how much Carl is set back by netplay could vary from person to person due to personal executional quirks and whatnot. Most of the initial difficulty in learning Carl's execution comes from getting used to negative edge inputs. As far as timing goes, I find that Carl's surprisingly lenient on timing for most of his practical stuff. FWIW, I've been able to pull off most of his stuff in most 2 bar connections but then again, muscle memory probably plays a big role in this lol. Short answer: I don't think it's that bad but someone else might disagree. Offline is still superior ofc.
Akiro Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 As for UB setups, here's a few "beginner" ones - 2A, 5B, 2B, 5C, 46D, jump, delayed AD, j.ABA, j.2C, j.AA, [j.B+3D] Is it just me or does the timing for this change from character to character? I can do it relatively easy on Ragna, but for alot of other characters I keep dropping the J.2C before Nirvana recovers from 46D and can push them into me. Also, I'm assuming the j.3B+3D is entered at the very end? If I can't do it inbetween j.ABA because Nirvana hasn't recovered from 46D yet and if I do it right after that then it comes out way too late.
