JG Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Just a combo with Zato, i hope that you like it = )https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLw57zWDSCg
DoubleNar Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 I have 2 vids with some new tech to show off. Please give some critique on the combos. Also to note these vids are things i came up with shortly after the last loketest changes came out. http://youtu.be/q_9thjdS3Zo http://youtu.be/5AeJNvih1V8
Katspawz Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 How do i fight I-No? Its beginning to feel like its a bad matchup for zato...
wirestyle22 Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 How do i fight I-No? Its beginning to feel like its a bad matchup for zato... Whoever has the momentum usually wins in my experience/from what I've seen. Side note: I've been studying Ogawa's playstyle like a scientist in the 1960's studying a moon rock. I have really extensive notes, but I want to make sure that I'm understanding the WHY aspect of his play. I might create a YouTube video kind of like what Arturo did for the Daigo vs. Infiltration match at the 50th anniversary tournament. Anyway, if any of you have seen a specific match of Ogawa's that was incredible, link me in a message. I think I'm going to do 3 matches. 1 where he can play completely offensive (not hard to find lol.), one where he was forced to play completely defensively (winning or losing doesn't necessarily matter as long as good decisions were made), and the last one being just a really good, even match.
Antihero11 Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 I'm having a lot of trouble picking up Zato as a character, but determined to keep practicing. I lose all the time. I did things in opposite order I think. I managed to learn all of the unblockables and some of the advanced combos. But my neutral game is awful, so I have a hard time pressuring people to the corner where I can shine. I was looking for tips against Ky, and maybe Slayer. All I can really think of to do is summon Eddie, then setup medium or heavy drills. But they can still poke him when the drills vanish, or just air dash over. Ky can stay behind the drill and shoot lasers diagonally which will kill little Eddie. I just have a really tough time in neutral game and wanted to know how you guys approach it. Do you avoid summoning Eddie until you go for knockdown. Because Zato has a really hard time getting in all by himself.
Rhythmic Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 round 2 http://ggxrd.com/locate2.pdf jK hitbox still buffed, but init. proration is now 90% -D- init proration is now 85% instead of 80% from previous loketest (so still nerfed from 1.0 but better than previous loketest). Eddie gauge recovers slower after a -D- BTLing away from an opponent now counts as a "negative" movement (for negative warnings). previous YRC nerf also remains. damned fang is no longer YRCable on whiff. purple RC only. (universal change for all command grabs) the 6->7 seconds eddie gauge nerf has been reverted. still doesn't recover during certain cinematics/overdrives. every other change from the previous loketest that hasn't been mentioned is still in I'm guessing the eddie gauge thing means it's always 6s and when you -D- it becomes 7s. it could be longer than 7s too but who knows. I'll wait for jp tweets.
JG Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Quick question? the recovery after the unsummons is the same? j.K being buffed look amazing!
Ryd' Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Extra recovery on -D- should mean no more unblockable loops, which is a plus in the grand scheme of things. Slightly hurts unblockables in general, but it shouldn't really come into play more than once a round anyway unless you screw up, so it shouldn't be a big deal. Command throw YRC getting axed was expected, but Zato still has Nobiru as an OS, so he's in better shape than others. They're really hating on Break the Law
2312123131 Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Init proration means that damage will be reduced only if combo is started with jK?

Bossguy Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Nice, jk buff is great, as well as the reverted Eddie gauge. Quick question, is the puddle summon consuming guage still present?
Sigma Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Nice, jk buff is great, as well as the reverted Eddie gauge. Quick question, is the puddle summon consuming guage still present? It should still consume a small amount of meter (somewhere around a -p- worth.) I like the way the rebalance is going now. Ease up the damage a bit without nerfing the fun (Eddie guage recharge time.) The j.K buff will also hopefully help to make him a little more well-rounded at the expense of overall touch-of-death potential. I think hits removing the pool would have been enough without the meter use addition, but if the changes go through as they are, I don't really have any significant complaints.
wiredgod Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 on the j.K buff, I was playing training mode against Milia dummy and found it was impossible to land a j.K on Milia when she was at the very closest range and crouching. I didn't find another character this was true for, but I didn't test them all. Maybe the new j.K will fix this.
president Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 That's not really the j.K at fault there, it's a Millia thing where she moves her hitbox forward when crouching which might have her end up behind you. From what I remember AC j.K never hit her that way since it did not have a hitbox that hits directly below and behind Zato; even Ky j.S stopped hitting her point blank after it lost the crossup potential in Xrd.
Antihero11 Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Did anyone catch MarlinPie at Winter Brawl 15? I attended in person, he's really polished up his Zato-1 play. Currently, he's looking like the "Ogawa" of the states. Honestly, he's not as good as Ogawa, but some of his frame traps and safe playstyle are great to observe. Watching his has helped me improve very much. He doesn't take many risks, and seems pretty good at managing the Eddie Gauge unlike many players.
president Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 You got videos / stream archive? I'm very interested.
SynikaL Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Okay, so I'm currently trying to wrap my head around this character. Question: if I'm holding down a button looking to prepare Eddie for a particular attack, but change my mind regarding what attack I want to use, how do switch the prep without getting Zato/Eddie to attack? Is that possible?
Pen_Ninja Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Once you're holding a button, there's no way to let go without Eddie doing some sort of attack. Your best bet in these situations is to make Eddie do ]P[ or something instead and release the button while he does. So in a situation where you hold down K and then decide you don't want ]K[, you would tap and release P so Eddie does ]P[ then release K before ]P[ is over. This uses less bar and recovers much quicker. You don't really have any other options though.
Ryd' Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 You can use RCs to clear buttons being held so long as you have enough buttons left to RC; there's a window during the RC freeze where you can release buttons without triggering Eddie.
wirestyle22 Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Okay, so I'm currently trying to wrap my head around this character. Question: if I'm holding down a button looking to prepare Eddie for a particular attack, but change my mind regarding what attack I want to use, how do switch the prep without getting Zato/Eddie to attack? Is that possible? You hold down the buttons that you use to combo with Zato, but let go of the button that you want Eddie to attack with. When Eddie goes into the start-up of that move you can let go of all of the other buttons.
felirx Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 If you're in neutral: You're holding S. You realize you need to do -H- to dodge an Elphet grenade. What you can do is hold back and tap H. This should cause Zato to go in to Faultless defense, and Eddie to perform -H-. If you forget to hold back, you will probably get blitzshield. Another thing you can do is jump, and during the tigerknee timing portion of the jump, you can hold/tap H. Zato should only jump because of the jump startup frames, while Eddie can do -H-. You can wiff a 5P/2P/2K and while wiffing it, also tap/hold -H-. Not particularly safe since Zato is doing stuff. More variations in Presidents Zato Megathread. In combos: You're doing something wrong. Combos are muscle memory, you should already be holding the right buttons. However, let's take a flight mixup. and analyze it. Eddie is in Mawaru. You dash jump in and hit j.k. You release K immediately. You have 2 variations from here for the air portion. jump cancel, j.S (hold S), j.HS (hold HS), HITCONFIRM, Once you hitconfirm, you can decide on what you're going to do. You're holding S + HS, but you're still in the active or recovery frames of HS. If you confirmed hit, tap K. This will make Eddie perform Mawaru and you can go for your midscreen combo or corner unblockable. If you confirmed block, you can tap P and go for a command throw. You can tap K to go for a Mawaru extended stuff. You can also release S to get a Nobiru if you like. Second variation is with jump cancel j.K (hold K), j.HS(hold HS). Then if you confirm hit, you release -K-. You still have the option of tapping S or P to get different stuff on block. During flight mixups, you might have to move Eddie forward or backwards, to make the hitconfirm Mawaru work properly. In the corner, if Eddie ends up inside the enemy after the initial Mawaru, you will not get all the hits of the confirm Mawaru, causing your 5D to miss and your combo to drop.
Antihero11 Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Stuff regarding negative edging. I understand exactly what you're saying Felirx. In theory, it all makes sense. In practice, I find it extremely difficult. The second mixup you mentioned with j.K and j.HS is easy because you just release a button mid combo. But how do you push a button when two other ones are held? I'm finding this to be the most difficult aspect of negative edging. Do you turn your wrist sidewards awkwardly? Or use your thumb to hit the button? Or do you use your pinkey? It feels extremely awkward to me. But I am also new to arcade stick (past two months), so it has been a living hell trying to hit three buttons at once and hold them. Two is fine and easy to manage, but once it hits three, I find it very difficult. I feel people talk a lot about negative edging, but not proper hand positioning. I'd like to see more said on this. Any advice?
Ryd' Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Following arcade layout makes it pretty easy: K S HS P _ D Thumb on P, next three fingers cover the top row. D can be taken care of with either the pinky or ring finger depending on what's more comfortable/convenient at the time. If you've ever played a stringed instrument, it's pretty similar.
Pen_Ninja Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 I still use the following: - index on P and K - middle on K and S - ring on S, HS and D - pinky on HS or D but only when necessary I can't get used to using my thumb ever... I know the above somewhat limits your options when it comes to holding down like 3 buttons then pressing another one in some situations but if that ever comes up, you're clearly doing some really odd stuff. I've never been in a situation where I'm holding P with index, K with middle, S with ring and HS with pinky... then thought "oh no, I need to press D"... You can set yourself up so it's possible to hit any combination of buttons you could ever imagine but so many of those situations will never happen.
