PsychoOjama Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Went to Tsuen Wan to play some Rengou vs Zaft II the other day, seems like the Maxi Boost community is kinda dead. I remember there being a lot of people playing at Mk Gamezone after 7 or so...
akai_GO Posted October 30, 2014 Author Posted October 30, 2014 Yeah, I've been to a few different places now, and honestly? I think it just depends on where and when you are. I've been to a few different places now where I am in Kyoto; granted I think the arcades here that have it are smaller than they would be in like Tokyo or Osaka, but sometimes I'll go to an arcade and the boxes will be empty, and sometimes I'll go and it will be full, with even a couple people waiting in line for a turn. And I think each place has like...it's own little collection of loyal patrons, that have their own life/work schedules that determine when they go. So I can't confirm what the player base is like in larger cities, but I don't think it's dead by any means. I will acknowledge that there's maybe fewer people going to the arcade to play MB than there are people playing FB at home, because people just really like the FB gameplay between the two it seems. I don't think MB offers much that makes people want to play it instead of FB, be that new MS, game mechanics, etc.

I remember there being a lot of people playing at Mk Gamezone after 7 or so... I went to GameZone and Smart Game in MK as well, seems like Hongers prefer 1v1 unless they had a designated partner? They definitely have a larger MB community compared to Tsuen Wan though.

Is X-Land the one where RVZ2 is a buck there? And yeah, I ran into so many 1v1 situations. That seems to happen more during the afternoon though cause people tend to show up with their partner at night. I couldn't find any cabs that were just 1 player only in HK either so that might be a reason that causes so many 1v1 situations to happen. I know for me personally, paying 6HK (was 8HK when I was there) is a real turn off, considering that most other games don't even touch 4 bucks.

I haven't found any RVZ2 in HK that's more than a dollar. X-Land is the one on the 4th floor of Tsuen Wan's City Landmark Mall. For sure afternoon is quieter than evenings. As for the 1v1 situations, I just don't understand. I live in Vancouver where arcade Gundam used to cost 1 dollar = 7HKD so that's never really bothered me XD. I'm sure when Maxi boost hits console or the new episode of Gundam vs is released, the price will drop.
akai_GO Posted October 31, 2014 Author Posted October 31, 2014 Yeah, I've met a number of people that talked about the 1v1 nonsense they seem to like to do. I've also had a few people tell me they are just fucking HANGING ON to RvZ over there, like that place that you mentioned that has 24 cabs of it. They just can't get enough of it apparently. Which, is what I would think is the bigger reason that, at least in HK, the MB community maybe doesn't seem so big or active.

I personally like RVZ2,GVGN and Zeta DX over the EXVS engine. But I still try to at least learn the game except for lost cause like vanilla GVG and EXVS, those two games are obvious beta tests lol. Sadly for Canadian arcades, we stopped importing Gundam after GVGN. While HK gets the new Gundam but doesn't seem like they appreciate it.
