  5. Evo Side Events! Toushinasai Qualifier, Side Tournaments for BBCPE, +R, UNIEL, VS and More!

Heading to Evo this year? Aksys is sponsoring 2 players to go to the Toushinasai 2016 in October in Japan. Toushinasai is a spritual successor the SBO arcade tournaments of old and will be run entirely on arcade hardware (sorry pad players). You can find the rules here, but there's two ways to earn a spot:

    1. Be the highest qualifying player in the Evo Main tournament for XRD-R
    2. Win the qualifying tournament Aksys is hosting at Evo. Rules are on Aksys' website here

    http://www.aksysgames.com/2016/06/21/toushinsai-qualifier-at-evo-updates/

In addition to that, people (including yours truly) will be hosting side tournaments for BB, +R, UNIEL, VS, Melty Blood, DFCI, and more! You can find more information here:

  8. Evolution 2015 Anime Evo Tournament Results and Videos

    10wljkn.jpg

This year was a huge year at Evolution 2015 for anime and airdasher games. Guilty Gear Xrd and Persona 4 Ulimax were present in the line up of main Evo games, Arc System Works hosted the US Arc Revolution Qualifier for both Guilty Gear Xrd 3v3 and Blazblue Chronophantasma Extend 3v3, and a huge community run event known as AnimEvo hosted a multitude of side tournaments ranging from large BBCPE and UNIEL tournaments that quickly capped at 128 players to other games like Arcana Heart 3 Love Max and Vampire Savior. Competition was fierce this year and all games had good showings which included international players from Japan. Overall the event was a huge success, so please send your thanks and support to the crew at AnimEvo.

  10. Facebook Local Groups Directory

A lot of players use Facebook nowadays and players have made Facebook Groups as a convenient way to communicate between local players. Looking for a group near you? @Cool_Camyoin made an openly editable Google Sheet to help players find each other!

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IL522ObSNiMLaD7CLonHZ7OBmMvZcUnOaTgX9GdLw8U/edit?pli=1

There's tabs for both USA and International Groups at the bottom, please add your local Group if you don't see it in there!

  14. Forum Upgrade This Weekend (August 1-2)

    3.4 to 4.0

We currently run IPS 3.4, and 4.0 was released back in April.

Upgrade Will Be Longer Than Usual

This is a major change, so downtime will be much longer than usual, as I want to download a backup of the servers in case things go horribly wrong. There are no good estimates for how long this will take, but I expect at least a few hours (and possibly a whole day) will be needed.

I plan on starting this late Saturday night if I'm free by then. If not, then Sunday.

    Why Upgrade?

The key feature that interests us is front page should be more configurable. The forums should also see slight improvements as well.

    Why Didn't You Upgrade Sooner?

This is a major upgrade. Typically this means major parts of the software has been rewritten and as such, certain features may unexpectedly go missing. I was hesitant to upgrade due to this, but seeing as we're trying to make the Front Page actually useful now, and 4.0 promises more options to do so, I've finally decided to bite the bullet.
