Well, SF characters are really simple, and alot of them are so similar they are interchangeable. But in SF2 I played Guile, in SF3 I played Hugo and Dudley, and SSf4 I play mostly Juri and Dudley, with a bi of Cody and Abel thrown in. I can also play the shoto's, but really, who can't? I'm not great at SF mind you. I haven't taken time to learn all the ridiculous techniques to reduce said guesswork. My best games are BB and SSBM, but I'm also decent in VF5, SSBB, and SSF4.
