I think I may have figured out the problem after I took it to a repair show. Luckily it wasn't the "power supply" that caused all of my problems since after they hooked up the console with their supplies it turned back on. They did a hard drive clean all free of charge. So what I did learn is that what really went out might be the power plug in the back of the PS3 that attaches to the wall. Power plug is the wrong word since they told me some other word. Called Best Buy and Fry and and when I mention that piece they have no clue what I'm talking about. You have an idea at least or link me to a site to purchase one?
