You can't block the first hit of carnage scissors and renka, but you have the time to try and figure out the timing to counter it? like ryoko said counters are needlessly risky in this situation and prorate your damage. If you have no stars to combo with 214b or 623a~a you're better off hitting with 6B for a counter-hit combo.

Well, my thought process usually goes with what normals will hit or beat it, rather than how many stars I have for said move since CS comes out so fast and I usually end up blocking the first hit. It's more reasonable to say Renka I suppose, but I guess that just means I need to work on my reaction time. @sogos: Go smoke a blunt instead of trolling me.

Some things to note about Carnage Scissors I found: Hitbox of the first hit 'moves forward' the longer the move is out, in other words, the closer you are to Ragna's CS startup, the later you wait to catch it with D moves. If it's done far away, you do D as soon as he gets close or just before. If you block the first hit, and the second does come out, the D point would be just during the red surge of it coming out, or you can counter with normals. Tnx Blade for the timing of countering the second hit of carnage scissor I never manged to get it down packed until you stated the timing of it.
Blade Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 For Deadspike I admit I can usually 5D that on reaction, but you should be careful which D you use on it as Ragna tends to use it for Guard Strings or desperation stuff. Hells Fang is ridiculously telegraphed so catching it is something Ragna players won't let you do often if they pegged you as fishing for it, but if I were to choose, 2D gives you more options with it, otherwise 6D comes out faster if you're worried about timing.

ryokoalways Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 If you catch anything, you are completely safe till you get to input any command again. So if someone l33t enough to dp your catch every time, you'd just charge 6c them after they land for a nice counter hit 1940 dmg into at least 8k damage.
Tsak Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 no you misunderstand (i know the frame data says as such) you get HIT by inferno divider im totally serious its ghey as fuck (ive only done like 5D or something) basically heres an example ragna goes into classic but easily counterable 5D in his blockstring you counter in retaliation he DPs automatically right as the counter goes off you attempt to grab it misses and you get hit i think its fairly lame imo almost as lame as hell haku-men reading your inputs and countering you but i got mah secret weapon ID for him so its cool now lol

Again, you are invincible from the moment you catch something till the counter animation is over, at which point you are at 0F, which means you can do anything. There isn't any point during a successful catch where you can get hit. The best example that can be given is, for example, if a nu decides to use projectile super on oki as a meaty, you can tech and then start spamming 6d or 2d to be completely safe from anything nu decides to do.
JackG Posted August 25, 2009 Author Posted August 25, 2009 I was under the impression that any of your drive moves on a successful catch will be invulnerable throughout the followup attack, even if it doesn't hit your opponent. That's why you can counter full screen Bees/Nu's swords and recover to do another counter or block before you're able to get hit.
