  1. I had actually made a thread about D&B on the Shmups.System11 Forums a while back, but nobody responded. I actually do not own this game as of yet but it looks interesting and has some connections to Guilty Gear and BlazBlue, so I thought it might be fun discussing it as a topic. I technically disagree with Ishiwatari’s view that Azure Grimoire and the Tome of Origin are the same book, but from a creative non-lore standpoint I guess you could say they are similar. Someone also pointed out “William” who seems to share a similar hobby to Axl Low. An interview with Ishiwatari seems to suggest that his writing is based on a “possible past” and a “possible future” and that D&B is set in the former (with GG’s plot I assume as the latter). Anyway just think of this as a catch all thread for Damon & Baby!
  2. I got half mine wrong because of a Case sensitive error or because I used the literal move translation. Also some moves originally went by different names too.
  3. Wow. I was such a chuunibyou when I was younger in this thread. Man I cussed a lot. I’m embarrassed now. I live up in North Milwaukee now, not far from Butler. X-Ray Arcade is still a thing in Cudahy. My PSN has not changed at all, but I’m still clinging to my relic PS4. I’m also on Linux, so I have no idea what fighting games even work on Linux Mint. I play Soul Calibur 6 a lot these days, but I still play XrdRev2, Strive 2.0, Accent Core Plus (I hate Plus R), GGTML, Isuka, Korean Reload, oh and I have Samurai Shodown Remake and BBTAG. I have Central Fiction too but it’s modded with boss characters. Just an old man who runs a GG blog at this point, basically. I’m also on Bluesky, XTwitter, YouTube, Discord, and Tumblr. I am a GameFAQs relic at this point. Oh yeah, and I’m on Reddit now, not that it’s important. I apologize for my filthy language when I was younger, lol
  4. There seems to be some miscommunication floating around, GGXrd Revelator is done (Rev2 was an add-on, despite being self-contained), but the 3rd Xrd game is still being developed.
  5. Since GG1 (I call it GGTML) was announced for PS4/Steam/Nintendo Switch, I figured we should AT LEAST have a thread about it. Whether it's news updates or just overall a review of the old gameplay (however ridiculous that might sound), we can talk about it here. Based on the ARCLive Stream clips so far, it's HD, so that will make things interesting. No idea if it has Netplay, but if it's on Switch, I don't see why it wouldn't (which would be an interesting twist). If someone wants to make a Discord room for this game, that can happen once we know more about it. Anyway: stuff you might want to know: Holding Respect while Blocking = Faultless Defense Up Button + Respect from Knockdown = Recovery Taunt in the Air = Air Turn (similar to GG Isuka) Special Move Input + Respect = Charge Attack (Axl, Justice, and Testament don't have charge moves though, so they can't charge cancel). If you lose 50% Health (Yellow Lifebar) = Unlimited Chaos Attacks/Overdrive moves, highly spammable. If you get a running start you can "Crash" in to your opponent using a Breaker Dash (like EX Order Sol), though I think it's Meter-dependent. Crash moves have an OTG relaunch ability (like Chipp's). Certain moves can cause Dust on counterhit, and other moves can buffer Instant Kill state on counterhit as well (Testament had a few normal like this). Instant Kill state (Red screen) is basically like "Danger Time", you have to input 214+any or 236+any to do an IK or evade one, though if you evade it certain stuff happens. Sometimes evading puts you in a different position on the stage, and can put you in the corner. Certain versions of this game are buggy (I've seen Ky perform his IK full screen distance away not touching his opponent), not sure if that will be fixed (though I haven't seen many bugs in the Japanese version of GG1 so you never know). That's it for now.
  6. For anyone who missed it: http://gear-project.tumblr.com/tagged/Guilty-Gear-Begin (No idea HOW to buy the novel yet... if someone knows how to buy the novel or is planning to, let me know...)
  7. I don't know what the deal is, or if it's exclusive to Sony, but apparently BlazBlue games can no longer be recorded via the "standard method" PS4 uses (Share Button recording is completely blocked on both Central Fiction and Chronophantasma Extend). This isn't something that occurs in GGXrd Rev2... or even the Steam versions of the games. I'm not sure if it's a problem on my end or what... Sounds like some kind of Legal Snafu with Japanese voice actors or something... (Bandai Namco does this practice too, but why only PS4?) IMPORTANT EDIT: Apparently as I rebooted my PS4 I was able to record videos again... just... what the heck why!?
  8. Skuttlebutt is that more info on the Guilty Gear novel will get revealed in a couple days. http://gear-project.tumblr.com/post/164973005234/ And for anyone interested in how I parse my information: http://gear-project.tumblr.com/tagged/Disclaimer
  9. Again, that only works on hit/block, not neutral wiff.
  10. I have a question about Naoto in Neutral situations. What combos can he do that can safely transition from "neutral" to "dash cancel"? I know his Phantom "shift" is dash cancellable, as are his D moves on "charge", but what all moves can transition in to a dash (not just as a dash cancel)? By the way, I play Naoto offline in Grimoire of Abyss to practice with him, and he has decent corner combos that don't require dash enhanced moves. (corner) 5B > 5C > 3C > Rekka to C Ender > High jump ,j.B > j.C > JC > j.B > j.C > Inferno Crusader
  11. On the subject of a Fan dub, can we get a Lady with a "Crisp British Accent" to be the BlazBlue system voice (using CT as the base, but using Central Fiction's roster/events as a guide)? I would trade all the dubs for that announcer back.
  12. 1. I told you how Daisuke Ishiwatari explained his "personal definition" of Gaiden, if you can't accept that definition and only see it as a retcon, tough. He prioritized characters over story, that's it. http://gear-project.tumblr.com/tagged/Gaiden 2. I said it was a fact based on putting all the "current evidence" together, but you insisted I leave out any information pertaining to the Colony being 100 years old (or the prospect of anyone living that long, like the Conclave members), so that's why I conceded to it being a "theory". At least for now. 3. I'm using Xtra as evidence BECAUSE it pertains to the History of the Colony, it is (so far) the only major source that does. Furthermore, it contains cited info from Ky Kiske that connects it with the "Golden Disc" GGX Drama CDs, and the Lightning the Argent novel. All three of which were written by Norimitsu. The only "reason" anyone could have for doubting Xtra's evidence is because Xrd hasn't mentioned it yet. Heavy emphasis on "YET". Not knowing enough info is frustrating, but you can't discredit evidence if nothing else completely discredits it. We don't have solid evidence to state WHEN and WHERE Daryl ate the Pudding, but that doesn't mean he didn't eat the Pudding, his rocket-butt is the proof!
  13. In Accent Core when Johnny asks Anji Mito if he knows any Japanese Survivors, Anji says "the only one I know is Big Sis" referring to Baiken. You could argue the translation behind that, but in context Johnny was looking for May's parents who also disappeared, so it's not outside the question to consider Baiken as such. "The new answer is the correct one" only applies to BlazBlue thus far. GGXrd already has continuity errors in it that clash with the GG Bible's info on Kliff Undersn. Gaiden applies to characters as canon, not events. Baiken being 100 years old is a "theory' not a conclusion, you're free to disagree until more evidence is presented. Asking me whether something "is canon or not", is forcing the issue when I lack evidence to say for certain. It's like saying I "ate the pudding" when I don't know for sure what the "pudding" is supposed to taste like! We'll get more "pudding" (story content) eventually! Just be patient!
  14. You forgot the very first source: Guilty Gear X. Leaving out anything pertaining to Xtra, we can only say "Baiken's parents were killed during the Crusades". There's not enough info to say WHEN that was, or even if it happened in Japan, despite the fact Baiken is considered a Japanese survivor by most sources. Xrd is the first source to say Japan was destroyed in 2074, no other sources or previous timeline listings even suggested it, other than Xtra which was vague about it. We have incongruous info here. We can't say Baiken wasn't a survivor, but we can't say her story coincides with Japan's destruction either. ALL I AM SAYING, is that we can't conclude anything until more information is present! The main reason I'm not quick to write off GGXtra is because Kaihou Norimitsu scripted the manga, novels, Drama CDs, and he's writing that upcoming Guilty Gear Novel. If we said Xtra wasn't legit, we'd be questioning everything Norimitsu ever wrote, and the story would essentially fall apart by that logic.
  15. http://gear-project.tumblr.com/tagged/Hell http://gear-project.tumblr.com/tagged/GG-Stages
  16. I have a question overall. Is rushdown even possible on Nine? All she has to do is Teleport to the air and fart water on someone's head to reset pressure (or at least that's how it feels). Plus her lows and overheads have ridiculous range, like you have to take crazy risks just to get inside, and combo confirms are seldom guaranteed. On top of this she can pull DD reversals out of her hat with all the meter she gets just from wiffs or block.
  17. I just told you what IS canon. The characters. But maybe not the story itself. That's just how GG Gaiden was explained. Unless we get more information on Baiken's Xrd story, it's extremely hard to confirm what sources they will use. There's two stories being told here: Baiken's Story and Japan's. Whether or not they coincide I can't be certain. Xtra talks about Japan in the Crusades and external info supports that in broad strokes BUT it doesn't go in to strong details on Baiken's Story as much as the GG Anime video did. I'm not dismissing evidence, I'm pointing out LACK of evidence. Baiken herself is 100% Canon, but various sources that tell her backstory may not meet 100% canon. But that doesn't mean Xtra is noncanon, it just means parts of it aren't. I'd say Accent Core carries more canonical weight than Xtra, but only because nothing "else" really supports Xtra. If you can't accept that answer, then you don't have to think of GGXtra AS canon until there's more supporting evidence to say it is.
  18. I use it as a reference for Ky's childhood, but so far it falls under Kaihou Norimitsu's work. LtA Novel GGXtra BaHG Novel Were written by him. GGXrd acknowledges the novels, but doesn't cite the Manga, and only barely mentioned Drama CDs Night of Knives and Side Red/Black. Golden Disc Drama CD cites Bernard from the Novel/Manga so he's canon. Characters are canon, like Tyr and Mizuha, but the order of events may not be canon yet. I'd have to wait and see. Ky's encounter with Dizzy in GGX was altered slightly in Rev2 too, so we'll see how things go.
  19. It's not clear yet, just "vague", the old man stated he lived most of his life in the Colony, and vaguely mentions parents who were Japan survivors, but his story and Baiken's "story outside GGXtra" do not entirely cooincide. GGXrd has yet to acknowledge GGXtra in name, not even mentioning its characters, even if Bernard was mentioned from the LtA Novel.
  20. There's certainly evidence May was born in the Colonies rather than Japan itself. But let's set "Amazing Geisha" May aside (who is older than she looks as she confessed to Chipp) for a moment. The very first time we even knew Japan was destroyed was in Baiken's backstory in Guilty Gear X in 2000. Anji's GGX Story supports this too, but doesn't give precise details of how her home and family were destroyed like Baiken's does. Guilty Gear Xtra Manga was released in 2003, 3 years after GGX and a year after GGXX came out. GGXtra was the first story to suggest that the Japanese had been sealed away for 100 years ("100 years without outside contact, blocked off"). Xtra is supposed to have happened during GGX events, not XX events, so assuming Xtra happened in late 2180 to early 2181, when Anji left the Colony, you would assume the Colonies were sealed from 2081 to 2181 if that 100 year seal is true. Anji never touched the Zessen before that time, so the kekkai barrier was always up and stopping intruders from entering or Japanese from leaving (Ky says without his medallion it is impossible to enter the barrier otherwise). Ky's recollection states he met Tyr roughly 15 years ago to the day they met again (2162 if Ky joined the Order in 2167). Xtra also goes on to add that it was considered a "Crime" for any Japanese to escape the Colonies (Axl Low states this to Mizuha)! Accent Core retroactively states Baiken escaped the Colony in 2180 to kill Justice, but how could that happen unless the Barrier was weakened? Unless Anji took the Zessen in 2180 and left at a similar time as Baiken? Before this, Baiken is never mentioned during the Crusades as having set foot outside the Colony. Now, you can either agree or disagree with the Canonicity of the manga, but characters like Bernard and such existed in the Drama CDs and Novels which were written/scripted by the same author. GGXtra, while fairly specific about certain things, is vague about others, the elder monk apologizes on behalf of Baiken, explaining her hatred of Gears to Ky during his investigation, stating her parents prevented the Gears from attacking by sacrificing their lives to protect her, however... Baiken's recollection was of Gears and a "man controlling them" whom she claims is the Gearmaker, "That Man". The Gears could not enter the Colony Barrier unless they were INSIDE the Barrier already, assuming that: 1. Baiken was attacked in the Colonies, rather than outside them. This makes more sense when you realize the Colonies were invisible inside the Himalayas and Justice fought her war mostly in central Russia and America at the time. Her war started in America. 2. Assuming that the story implied by "Ogre Valley" is true or somehow related, Gears were sealed or "dumped" inside the Colony alongside the Japanese. Geena called it a "Landfill" and she was a PWAB agent. Tyr even says he was "thrown out". Now, either Baiken was attacked by Gears INSIDE the Colony or OUTSIDE it. We can't determine which for sure yet. Baiken's story is sketchy as it is, but her recollection of a "human controlling Gears" contradicts what happened during the Crusades proper, as Justice was a Gear controlling other GEARS. Anji's recollection of Crow Kuruwaba is equally sketchy, so there's a story here that isn't being said yet. If Baiken was attacked outside the Colony that would have been 100 years ago, but if it WAS inside the Colony, then something else happened...
  21. Like I've been saying, Nationality has nothing to do with what people are affiliated with or where they currently live. The Arena is just indicating May is Japanese (Origin: Japan means Japanese), she still "lives" with the Jellyfish. Raven's FROM the "Holy Roman Empire", and neither that empire nor Germany that came after it exist anymore, Germany was annexed in to Illyria after the Crusades. But that doesn't change the fact Raven is German! Most of GGXrd's story about May further PROVED May was Japanese, so why are you debating this point? I-No's comment about Baiken's Age was in GGXX, Baiken's story. http://guiltygear.ru/files/faqs/Guilty_Gear_XX_The_Midnight_Carnival.txt I-No wasn't the only person to make that age comment either, Robo-Ky does too when he hits on her in ACPlusR, saying "she's passed the limit" (Robo sensors don't lie). Also, I-No's Bad Ending in ACPlusR shows that Baiken "awakens" even after I-No struck her down! Ky was shot in Xrd in a similar manner, guess what happened? During that scene Baiken even MENTIONS the Japanese having special powers (according to what she heard from Crow Kuruwaba of all people). Need more proof? The P.W.A.B. were "recovering the Japanese AND Gears", now why do you suppose they were given a task that lumps the Japanese in with Gears UNLESS there was some connection?
  22. Well, unless Faust comes up with a cure, I don't know what else to tell you. May's origin is a mystery yet too, as she just appeared outside the Colony in 2174 where Johnny found her. I can only assume her parents were trying to escape the Colony and little May got left behind, but that's a guess on my part. I don't know what really happened, nor does it account for May's ridiculous physical strength enough to spook Justice of all Gears. Baiken being able to slash a house in half with one arm is curious enough, but the fact the Zessen OutRage reacts to Japanese blood (OutRage are Anti-Gear weapons, they shouldn't respond like that to humans unless the user is exceptional at using Magic). I-No's comment about Baiken's age isn't easy to ignore after all this.
  23. I think you're getting confused. http://gear-project.tumblr.com/post/37901512592/baiken-bio-and-trivia Baiken's GGX Bio states her Birthplace was "Pre-Destruction Japan". It's in the Manual. https://www.dropbox.com/s/f1sf3grgzs12z99/Guilty_Gear_Manual_Archive.rar?dl=0 GG World Bio says "Colony" while her Arena Bio says "Japan". That's because she moved to the Colony AFTER Japan was destroyed. That should be obvious. Her PWAB Report states she lost her parents DURING the Crusades. 2074 is still considered the "beginning of the Crusades" according to how GG categorizes its history. Most older GG Bios don't say where characters are living, only where they were born. As of GG2 they started adding info where characters currently live and groups they're affiliated. Ky Kiske is French, but he's considered Illyrian because he's the High King of Illyria. Political lines were redrawn is all. As for the Japanese, no, they're "not quite" Gears, but they ARE sick because of the DNA taken from Justice. So far the biggest indicators are May and Mizuha with their Gear-like powers.
  24. For those who missed the events leading up to Japan getting destroyed. Variable X are Japanese who became Antimatter Gears because of Information Flares set off by the Universal Will.
