FlockOfFlames Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 First post here ! Im a beginner at BB and would love to improve. I've been in love with this game for a looong time but have been a bit pushed off by the deserted/non-helping community (that's why I came here actually), so I've never really picked it up. For the little story, Im a SSBM player and Im amongst the best players in my country. When properly mentored, Im a very dedicated student and learn very fast. I just have immense trouble doing it alone or only with players of my caliber, aka newbies+. So if you feel like you could mentor someone into Blazblue, don't hesitate to hit me up ^^ I know the basics of the game and have a few outdated BnBs on my sleeve with Ragna, but that's about it. I don't really know how I should approach the game to progress from here. Cheers.
DJ_Blactricity Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Before you call it a non-helping community, have you ever actually asked players for help? From my personal experience over the years, players will help you if you ask. You should seek answers yourself through training mode and watch/analyze videos of top players and yourself. Trust me, it will help you in the long run. I am a player who went the route of asking players/being mentored, and it hurts you in the long run. It helps, but you will never truly understand some things without analyzing videos and finding answers yourself. Ask when you've tried everything, and can't come up with an answer.
Monarch Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Welcome to the community, in regards to you mentioning Ragna, here are a few resources that may assist you with learning the character: Ragna The Bloodedge Dustloop Wiki Page (The wiki should give you a general idea of the strengths and weakness of Ragna and what his moves are intended for.) Ragna Forums (The video thread found here will give you some examples of how good Ragna play looks like, and the combo thread will help you.. learn combos. Additionally, if you have any questions that the wiki can't answer, find the relevant thread to post your question in and I'm sure another Ragna player would be happy to answer it.) Ragna Discord Server (You may also receive a faster response to your question if you post in the Discord server as well.) Best of luck!
FlockOfFlames Posted March 16, 2016 Author Posted March 16, 2016 Sorry, when I said non helping, I didn't mean that as an offense toward the entire BB community, only the few people I've come across online. All decent players I've played simply quit after one match because I wasn't good enough. It's super frustrating because Im sure I can learn a LOT just by playing them, without even taking advices. Some even let me do some stuff or let me take a game, and then stomp me -> Astral finish. That's what I call non-helping. And that's why I'm now actually asking for help here, and I'm sure people will be willing to help (otherwise I wouldn't have bothered). As for the mentoring thing, when you learn anything in life you always start with a teaching of some sort, even in actual fighting sports like boxing, people learn with a coach. This is crucial to correct your mistakes asap and avoid integrating bad habits altogether. I did learn boxing this way, so I know it works for me. Of course you have to be dedicated, do your research and put effort in it. You have to think for yourself and present something. But then you'll need feedback on this something. I wouldn't have asked if I could play and friend people online all day long. But to play a ranked match on BB you have to pray Jesus that someone will play this game and join your room lol. And when they're good they'll just stomp you and leave. EDIT: Thanks for the ressources Frost Monarch

Send a message, and add them as a friend. It's a good chance they'll continue to play if you ask. Avoid ranked. No one really plays ranked. Stick to the lobbies. Take note of the names of good players, and if you see their room open join. They may kick you if they do ask them to let you play. You can't really avoid players going out of their way for an astral finish. As much as I hate it, you have to deal with it sometimes.
