I've hears that Skullgirls lacks footsies, and I wonder whether or not legacy GGs are as well.
OppositeofDecay Posted July 6 Posted July 6 I see a lot of new players in +R quick match, so finding players shouldn't be an issue. I think pretty much any game that is not extremely combo heavy will build fundamentals (and even those often do, just a lot slower). SRTEP 1
SRTEP Posted July 6 Author Posted July 6 Spoiler Skullgirls is a reset-heavy game, due to its lack of air tech and a MVC2-ish undizzy system. Will the practice of resetting build as much fundamental? This is probably my biggest question of skullgirls.

Like trying not to get clipped by assists or navigating Peacock zoning is footsies. Trying to open up your opponent is transferable to some extent. Avoiding Skullgirls style resets is uncommon even in anime games but I won't say it never happens. I'm equating fundamentals with transferable skill cause the definition is somewhat vague and it's usually about how similar games are anyway. Very basic stuff like positioning or hitconfirming are almost ubiquitous, but you have to decide whether you get enough chances per match to practice them for yourself. Honestly I wouldn't worry about it too much.
SRTEP Posted July 7 Author Posted July 7 Thanks. It means that it's OK to main Skullgirls without abandoning fundamentals practice, right?
GooieTheGreen Posted July 8 Posted July 8 Back to your original question: +R was my first FG, starting last November. I now have 250+ hrs in it, 100 in Xrd, 50 in Strive, and some change in other games. Despite often being touted as fundamentally different, much of what I learn in one game will transfer over almost seamlessly to another. Go play Footsies if all you wanna do is build fundies or whatever. If you want to play fighting games as actual video games made for entertainment, then stop worrying about how quickly the game will improve your fundies and just play fighting games.
