TaoFTW Posted April 9, 2010 Author Posted April 9, 2010 Okay, I took out that southwestarcade thing and put in...dustloop? O.o Edit: August will mark the end of our first year ranbat. Winners will get interviewed and sent on a trip to sleep with UMEHARA BA~SUTO YONDE!! Okay, in all honesty, August will be our last ranbat before we reset the standings...and I was serious about the interview part. If you are serious about hype, then I ask that you join me in my hunt for hotel venues...again! Edit: What do you guys think of an ST Turbo ranbat? Either that or HDR...:psyduck:nvm, forget what I said! :3
KatanaDash Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 John, if you need more help, I can also help running tournies. Lets keep this ball rolling, each gathering is just more hype than the last.

ehuangsan Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 What do you guys think of an ST Turbo ranbat? DO IT
ehuangsan Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Since you have a Genesis too, we can have a SHAQ-FU RANBAT on the stream
TaoFTW Posted April 9, 2010 Author Posted April 9, 2010 John, if you need more help, I can also help running tournies. Lets keep this ball rolling, each gathering is just more hype than the last. That's good to know. In that case, I'd like you to handle the 2v2 team tournaments. If you all can get through singles by 5pm (lol wut), then get 2v2 organized and done by 8pm. And...I just found out that my sister's bday party is on May 1st...ffffffffffffffffffffff. This will be one tournament I, absolutely, must skip. Sorry guys, I'll spread the word, but I can't host it. Therefore, I put KatanaDash and Dakanya in charge of GGAC n' Tsubasa in charge of MBAA. yes fuck hdr, i'll bring my dreamcast I'll leave you to that gig Alex. We already have our hands full with three games. So I'll arrange a ST Turbo ranbat in June. Also, assuming we can get some rep from Aksys, we should look into securing bigger venues. This is where I ask the community to help step up their support...and hype! And, I will admit, I've been - rather - impressed at the dedication people are putting into to make these tournaments happen. We may not have a group size comparable to the ST community, but I'm glad I can count on you all to make things happens. Thanks.
TaoFTW Posted April 13, 2010 Author Posted April 13, 2010 Cross-posted from NORCAL thread: Thanks for the positive rep Coopa n' friends. So one of my latests epiphanies - in light of recent events - is that there's a lack of showcase for FGs not related to SF4. I, personally, owe a great deal to their community for showing me how to get stuff done. And, in return, I want to show that the BB community won't flake out like what happened in GG @ EVO. I've been busy up to my ass with real life, but I'm willing to put forth the effort to get this minor gig started. So where, you might ask, did I scrounge up the courage to plaster some random minor for a - so called - dead game? Because, more or less, "The games are HYPE and only a handful of people are playing them!" If you beg to differ, then I implore you to come to the NorCal Install GGAC/MBAA ranbats or the SVGL BBCS tournaments. In any case, the games that I want to feature in the minor are the following: - Blazblue Continuum Shift (Main Event) Singles 2v2 Teams 5v5 Team Exhibition (NorCal vs. SoCal) - Melty Blood AA Singles 2v2 Teams 5v5 Team Exhibition (NorCal vs. SoCal) - Guilty Gear AC Singles 2v2 Teams - Tekken 6 Singles 2v2 Teams - SSF4 Singles 2v2 Teams - ST Turbo Singles - PSX? Dreamcast? - Feedback please - SAILOR MOON 5v5 NORCAL VS. SOCAL EXHIBITION Potential Sponsors: - Aksys Games - Koogy 'IN DUST WE TRUST' :3 - Dustloop.com!!!??? :O If you want to see your game stay on EVO's roster; if you want NorCal to be known for fierce FG competition apart from the SF/Tekken/BB; if you want the mainstream FG community to not underestimate broken games; if you want that SAILOR MOON in the roster; if you think that this event is, downright, hype; then I ask - nay - demand that you voice your support for, NorCal INSTALL! Date Pending, but hoping for either; Last Weekend or First Weekend of August This minor will indicate the end of the first year's NorCal Install ranbats. After that, we'll be taking a break and resume when we first started the gig - November! As Gordon Ramsay would say, "Damn. I forgot rule #10. You're only as good as your last service."
Tsubasa Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 I have a couple of opinions I'd like to voice. 1. I understand that BB is a big game & it probably deserves top billing, but I can't help but feel like it's kinda disrespectful to the GG & MB communities. The GG & MB are the first & core games of NorCal Install. I realize that the BB community is active & supportive of this endeavor too, but they haven't been supporting NorCal Install each month like we have. In fact, I think the minor will be the first NorCal Install with BBCS. At the very least, GG should receive equal billing. 2. I disagree with SSFIV. I recognize that it's a big game. I recognize that it will bring in numbers. But I think that adding it to a NorCal Install is stepping too far away from, what I thought to be, one of the core goals of NorCal Install: to promote lesser appreciated games. I let T6 slide cause, at least according to Derrick, the community isn't nearly as big & active as I would have thought. But SF would overshadow everything & regulate every other game to 2nd billing status for most attendees. I can't help but feel like adding SSFIV is cheaping out & giving in to mainstream just for numbers. Those being said, I propose one of two things: 1. Drop SSFIV. 2. Remove the NorCal Install branding. It can be related to & supported by the core NorCal Install group, but to imply that it is a direct extension of our ranbat series is something I'm sure not only I disagree with. But as long as it's called something else, I can't really complain. Whatever happens, I'll still be there to run Melty & help out where needed. Disagreements or not, I support John's effort & I feel like the tourney needs to happen.
Yggjrasil Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 I know this may be a stretch but, Why not put in Arcana Heart 2?

Either way, I DO need to know that people are willing to step up to the plate and show that they'll rep their game.
Dakanya Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 I know this may be a stretch but, Why not put in Arcana Heart 2? I believe that console port has been deemed and is widely regarded as unplayable due to all the slowdowns.
qwerty Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 i know this may be a stretch but, why not put in waku waku 7?

STenSatsu Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 I'd definately show for ggac/bb and maybe even mb if we get a date nailed down a few weeks in advance.

Honnou Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 i know this may be a stretch but, why not put in waku waku 7? this isn't as much as a stretch as waku waku 7 but... THIS MAYBE TEAMS FOR THIS THIS GAME REQUIRES LITTLE SPACE FOR SETUP errr edit I realize this totally looks like a troll post, but I'm serious (well maybe not about the last one) about this. I can also provide setups for either game. An EX char tournament might be rockin' too, but of course we have to worry about the main events before we get these side ones going. I read Tsubasa's post a little late but, I agree with most the points he brought up. Having SSFIV would be awesome BUT it looks like a double-edged sword with the side facing you being a tad sharper...If you wanted a more mainstream game but didn't want to deal with a huge crowd, 3s or ST are fine. Both games have a large scene, but there are also tourneys and such for both all over the place (at least for 3s) so you don't put yourself at risk for too much work. BB already has it's separate ranbat series (which I would like to attend more often but can't exactly...), so I don't see why they need to be supported at ours...maybe after console release or at major/minors it will be a different story. But yeah, my impression of our ranbat's objective is that we are basically Angry Video Game Nerd: The tourney, and not IGN.com TIPS AND TRICKS.
KatanaDash Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Yeah, I agree with Rod, I think we should convert the 2v2 event into a sort of variety "good will" tournament, just to troll ourselves. 2v2, isuka, CvS mode GGAC, Ex-characters, 8v8 pokeman style, GG mode, old school versions of the game etc. Does any body else agree?
Tsubasa Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Do I hear Melty ver. 1.0?! I can provide the game and converters!!
qwerty Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 the only problem with running shitty old games is that ernest is probably the best player in the country at all of them
