KatanaDash Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 I can bring one set up, ps2 + tv, surge protector, and a card table to set it up on. I'm not sure if I should bother bringing it because it sounds like we've already got 2 or 3 set ups going, and derrick's office isn't too big. any body needing a ride from san jose/santa clara area can give me a pm.
TaoFTW Posted January 27, 2010 Author Posted January 27, 2010 Bring them. We'll make room. There's unused space in some parts of the room where we can use the TVs.
Ginseng Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 So who wants to play Warcraft 3? Only me? Thought so. Coming from concord area. Let me know via PM if you want to carpool. I'm willing to play warcraft 3, but that game has no hype whatsoever. Should I bring my laptop? It's pretty low tier though. (5 years old with about a 1.3 ghz processor)
TaoFTW Posted January 31, 2010 Author Posted January 31, 2010 - TVs: 3 + 1 from KatanaDash - CRTs: 1 - PS2: 2 MBAA Setups; 2 GGAC Setups + 1 Backup - Surge Outlets: 3 - Chairs: 9 BYOC Updated list of setups. If everybody, who posted, is bringing their allotted setups, then we're good. The office can hold no more than 5 TVs. So we're looking at 2 setups for ggac and 2 for mbaa + 1 backup. If you're bringing a setup, then please try to show up, at least, 30 minutes prior the tournament time. Remember, the tournament is, tentative, to start at 2pm. The reality is that Nor Cal has loads of, driveless, amiable people - which has it's pros and cons. Don't feel pressured to arrive on time. But if you are going to be late, then contact PhaethonH, Ginseng, Tsubasa, Honnou, or I. And if you do, then please show up - no later - than one hour from the appointed tournament time. We will be starting it without you. Fred, can you email me your 16 man bracket?
Arvoyea Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 If JacerX is still up to go and giving me a ride, I'll bring my Xbox 360, Dreamcast, and PS2(if I can get it before the day) with GGXXAC(both versions). When I get Actress Again, it will be after this, and I have no arcade sticks for PS2 yet. But I have one for Xbox 360.
Dakanya Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Let's also do a round robin for Vampire Savior aka Darkstalkers 3.
Arvoyea Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I have Vampire Savior on my laptop. I can bring it for you. And I can try to get on the Dreamcast, if I can make it.
ehxaxis Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Chapter 1: The Beginning One day, while waltzing into NCR, I turned my head to see a scruffy hair'd man with jeans sagging down to the floor - rolling his eyes left and right - playing Blazblue. My jaw dropped as my eyes bulged out of it's sockets, "What?! I never knew Nor Cal Regionals had a BB casual session. What did you do?" I screamed in disbelief. "I saw a TV open and used it to hook up my XBOX for Blazblue." Responded the scruffy hair'd man. Somehow, someway, we managed to draw a crowd bigger than the t6 crew while mashing away in our casual session. Ginseng played too :3. Needless to say, I had a dream. "I have a dream that one day [nor cal] will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: 'We hold these [animu games] to be self-evident: that [Arcsys has created better games than Capcom]. I have a dream that one day on the red hills of [nor cal] the sons of former [blazbluers] and the sons of former [street Fighters] will be able to sit down together at a table of brotherhood." *** Chapter 2: The Quest for :3 I have a favor to ask you SJSU and De Anza folk. In an effort to re-ignite the fire in nor cal's GG, BB, and MB scene, I'm trying to secure a venue to hold MONTHLY sessions. Yes, you heard me - monthly - gatherings. This would include: - Casual Sessions - Ranbats - Future Nor Cal Major including: BBCS, GGAC, MBAA I'm tired of seeing every single venue ax these games out of every major. Therefore, I figured it's high-time we start up something of our own caliber. Wherefore, "Hold your ground, hold your ground! Sons of [Nor Cal], of [sadlife], my brothers! I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. An hour of woes and shattered shields, when the age of men comes crashing down! But it is not this day! This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good Earth, I bid you 'stand, Men of the [Nor Cal]!'" If you want to revive nor cal, then I ask for you to scrounge for a venue. I do not have the necessary assets to rent hotel space, but I'm looking! If all else fails, then we will use SJSU bowling alley as our last resort. But take heart! The battle has, yet, to be won! *** Chapter 3: What's a Good Venue? Like I said, in response Arv's earlier post, you're more than welcome to use the venue as a catalyst - and extension - for the BB/GG/MB community. The keyword here is, 'empowerment.' If you can do it, then - by all means - take initiative and open up a venue for us. There are a few, personal, pre-requisites to opening up venues: 1) Plethora amount of space for numerous setups. 2) Ample chairs. 3) Internet Connection is - highly - preferable (live stream). 4) Convenient - free - parking. 5) Close to loliJohn approved eateries (you have to assume that some people carpool'd, took a bus, or walked to the venue). 6) Exclusive for gatherings only (no deafening rap music like in the SJSU bowling alley). 7) Ability to be open during summer vacation. 8) BBCS* 9) If possible, then no venue fee. Also, HD TVs tend to carry conversion lag. Please test them to see, whether or not, they're usable. * = Preferably close to a BBCS cab. If not, then that's okay. The whole point in setting up this venue is to pave the way for future ASW console port games. *** Chapter 4: The Quest For Venues Here's the following finds: Corporate Venues: - [finput][/finput] College Campuses: - Devry University Multi-Purpose Room (Fremont) Store Venues: - MGL (Milpitas Golfland) Houses/Apt: Fred's house (Sunnyvale) - No more than 8 people. Aginor's home (Sunnyvale) - Invitation only, but can host up to 20 people comfortably. Wolf Pup TK's home (Sunnyvale) - Can only host up to 5 people. loliJiang (Mt. View) - No more than 8 people. Ginseng's home (Milpitas) - Invitation only, but can host up to 20 people comfortably. Qwerty's house (Mt. View) - Up to 10 people + Sean (20 minutes, of walking distance, from Caltrain Station) Abstract (Redwood City) - Going back to Indiana, but will be around for the summer. Rod (Daly City) - As many people possible. Offices: Derrick's Office (Redwood City) - Whenever he feels like it. Ehuangsan's Office (Mt. View) - Weekends only. View) - Ginseng BBCS Only (Mt. View) - Derek BBCS Only (Sunnyvale) - Jared BBCS Only (San Mateo) - ixRenegade BBCS Only (San Jose) - KatanaDash (Santa Clara) - Magz (San Jose) - Kijiyama GGAC Only (San Jose) - Buzzsaw (San Jose) - Tsubasa (San Jose) - Shining Aquas (?) - TaoFTW (Cupertino) - Bucklemyshoe (209 only) - NEW! JacerX (Modesto) Nor Cal People Who Need Carpools: - Rod (Daly City) - Tenkai (Daly City) - Qwerty (Mt. View) - Dakanya (Palo Alto) - Arvoyea (Sacramento) i will see if i cn even make it there
Riotblade Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I'm pretty sure I can make it. I need to pull my lazy ass off the chair. I can give rides to people who are along the way from SF, but I will probably be going home @ around 10. So if you don't want to leave at 10, you'll need to secure another way to get back.
TaoFTW Posted February 2, 2010 Author Posted February 2, 2010 Alright, with the ranbat - looming - closer to hyper-viper-beam, I would like to see a head count of who's coming. If you are coming to the ranbat (and know of others who will come, but don't post here), then -either- post a reply on this thread or send me a PM. I want to start creating tournament brackets n' such. Also, does anybody know how to manage a website? I'd like to start getting some pre-reg happening in the near future.
Tsubasa Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Since there was no pre-reg this time, I say bracketing should be done on-site. It'll get all messy when several people no one knew was coming, show up on the day of. In fact, I suggest that brackets should be done on-site for all the ranbats. It doesn't take long. Just cut off signups 30mins before the tourney.

qwerty Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 yeah uh go back roughly a year ago if you can remember that far back and you'll start remembering me bitching about how nobody ever said they were coming and did which is cool and all but like fuck we end up under prepared when that happens
TaoFTW Posted February 2, 2010 Author Posted February 2, 2010 yeah uh go back roughly a year ago if you can remember that far back and you'll start remembering me bitching about how nobody ever said they were coming and did which is cool and all but like fuck we end up under prepared when that happens I'm hoping that we'll have enough space to host the tournament. But we're all poverty; we'll adapt to any venue. I'm still hoping hoping that somebody could bring a 6th TV just for a extra back up. And, whatever happens, we'll learn from each ranbat and make it better as the years go by. Edit: Do we have anybody who wants to help me in my quest for snacks?
PhaethonH Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 All my weekends for Feb are planned for SoCal :/ Except the 27th, the BB (singles) ranbat.
TaoFTW Posted February 2, 2010 Author Posted February 2, 2010 Boo Fred. :/ Anyways, everyone check the first post. There's loads of new updates for the tournament. Edit: CONTACT Riotblade if you want to support the SJSU Animu Fighting Game club. Really, we can't hop from one random office to another. We need to have a consistent venue to serve as the focal point for our Nor Cal. D:
Honnou Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 I am coming to this tourney, and wanted to mention that anyone who is in San Francisco for the day on Friday before the tourney can crash at my place so we can make it on time in the morning on Saturday.
Derrick Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 as per usual i'll be in the office all morning but i may be asleep when people start arriving
