Zeero Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Just wondering, how many people prefer a singles tourney over a team(2/2 or 3/3) tourney? I'd rather do team tourney coz they're so much more fun and go by faster so people who get eliminated early doesnt hafta sit there for the remainder of the night if they choose to stay for casuals.

I'm probably going to go with 2v2 if nobody objects (or if not enough objects).
Asdferty Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I agree with the setup of: A v A B v B W v W but I would suggest either a double blind or locked order, so you cant look over at the other side to see who's playing first and attempt to pit your better matchup/players etc. Or random order could work as well.
g0th1k4 Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 teams sound good, whether its 2v2 or 3v3 but yea i say locked order so its set who goes first and not tryin to match up certain ppl vs others i think if we have a lot of people we do 3v3 and if an ok amount maybe 2v2? i thought setup was going to be like person A starts and stays on until he loses or beats the other team but i guess that only applies for bigger teams =S i'm a noob at tournaments haha all i do is casual play cuz more time to play around with 720 setups =P

Usually in the past its been A stays on until he loses, just that sometimes its nice for everybody to be able to play instead of being carried or something. Its still all up for discussion. And probably duplicate characters are NOT banned in the team tourney, considering how much variety in characters our community has. (tager tager tager tager tager noel noel noel tsubaki tsubaki tsubaki ragna ragna lambda lambda, you get the point) Ultimate decisions will be made by nazir tho, coz he is ALMIGHTY

Also, anyone willing to house 3-4 Jersey people who promise to shower before we drive up? Cause hotel expenses will fucking rape me to death. You should be able to just type in "lovegety station" in google maps and it'll give you the right address, one of us had added that to google maps lol. I highly doubt you will find anyone who can provide housing, most of us are students who still live with parents or on campus. As for the teams vs singles debate, quoting my post from the TO thread : BB will be a team tournament if there are a minimum of 16 entries. (8 teams) GG will be a team tournament if there are a minimum of 12 entries. (6 teams) I've always alternated back and forth between singles and team format, if there is the demand. The last one was singles, this one will be teams due to demand. The only issues brought up are "unorganized" or "to figure out player tiers". Neither of these are a problem. Me and Pui communicate so that one tournament doesn't get held up in favor of the other, both will be run smoothly. Please do not put my organization skills down to the same level as those SF4 creatures. As for the "to figure out player tiers", if you want to prove something, then show up to the singles tournament. People had plenty of notice for the last singles tournament, and some chose to pursue other activities. It's understandable that there are other interesting things in life besides games, but you can't expect me to hold you to your word if you don't show up. The dates will never accomodate everyone's schedule. There's always next time for singles. Besides if you have anything worth proving, you should win regardless of whether it's teams or singles, it's called carrying the team because you're just that fucking pro! There is no baby rules against team-stacking. Some people put more effort than others into the game, so they deserve to have their efforts recognized. It seems illogical to me that people can give the argument of "to figure out tiers" and at the same time say we shouldn't stack teams. Not stacking teams would distort the tiers since I could just team up with that scrub archling and he'd get top 3 even though he's like bottom 3 lolll <3. Singles vs Teams can go back and forth all day. So the only fair way is to alternate back and forth between singles and teams. Suck it up and show up for the next singles if you care that much. Teams cannot have duplicate chars. It is true we don't have much variety. But having duplicate char teams means that you would be fighting teams with an even less variety of chars used (since they're duplicate), so the overall variety is decreased even further. Format will be SBO rules (locked team order, locked character): A v A B v B Winner(A) v Winner(B)
