real talk: you're free, thats it.

Serious talk:

1. use butterfly. and use it with serious intent; I don't mean just spamming it at the other end of the screen. play at the edge of iad-punishable range, and force johnny to be on constant-vigilance mode. punish preemptive options by simply -waiting-, force him react rather than anticipate.

2. change up your fuujin use. either do it more (to beat predictive uses of pokes like f.S, 5HS, coin, and 2S occasionally), or do it less (so as to not die). you can probably tell what category you fall in.

3. generic johnny defense. block more. watch for ensengas / throw attempts, and patiently watch for holes to escape. a well timed use of FD can also shut down a lot of strings.

4. generic johnny neutral game. all the pokes with good range that you probably hate are actually pretty ass on whiff. use fd break and bait out some whiffed max range pokes, effectively reducing his range.

5. if he's coining you on reaction to corner blockstrings like 5HS > butterfly, cancel into stomp instead (K). if he is able to react properly to both options, do what you should be doing in the first place: staggering etc.

6. i hear your superjump is good. so is j.D.

Really? The more I play against Magz, the more I feel the matchup is actually beatable, just out of favor.

Also, I wasn't talking about trouble with Qwerty. I know I made a lot of dumb decisions in that match (even though I barely won), but what I really needed to see was my match against Tenkai. I feel like I got taken apart completely, and I hate feeling that retardedly free in any match. And, to be honest, I'm still not 100% sure how to get in effectively in that match.

Johnny actually gives me some issues, no joke. At least with Slayer, I know exactly what I did wrong. It's harder to gauge that with Johnny.

Serious talk here.

I gave it a try around 1:21:00-1:40:00 or so against Tenkai, maybe it might amuse you.

I think Brett is right. I would also add trying 6k and 2k a little more. Yeah, 2k proration is garbage, but the reach is pretty good and you can get a surprising number of counter hits at odd distances.

More on that serious butterfly usage, it'll help if you can disguise when you're going to throw a butterfly versus doing a fuujin or run up 2k or maybe even doing nothing. Then Johnny might try something pre-emptively, which you can shut down on reaction.

But I'm a LOLTROLLAnji so :8/:

oh yeah 2K is really fucking awesome. its like +6 or something stupid on block.

also if you do some faggot shit like fuujin after coin on block whenever he tries to dash in, you'll probably make ppl mad. and make qwerty look free i bet.

Brett why are you even wasting your breath. lol

I do anything to keep myself from doing work.

scott's like the philosophy major who ended up majoring in computer science instead because he realized that as much as he may love philosophy, he's simply not going to be able to make a living off of it.

Serious talk is serious.

You can read what the other guys said about the matchup since I'm not completely familiar with the specifics. But when I'm playing against you as a player, my main priority is trying to never ever get hit by Fuujin. Naturally that's what anybody should do, but the way I was playing against you was with the mindset that you would do Fuujin at any gap in my offense (mostly because you're really trigger-happy on your Fuujin, and this is how you get a lot of your damage, I think). You'll see me put you in a blockstring, backdash, and then stick out a poke that will only connect if you do Fuujin. If I can seal your Fuujin, then I'm confident that I will win the neutral footsie game.

But yeah, besides the matchup specific stuff other people are telling you, my suggestion is to stop throwing out Fuujin so recklessly. It will work against most scrubs, but you'll reach a wall because of this habit of yours (I think you've already encountered it). Besides that - and this is the more difficult part - work on your neutral game and footsies. Use FD brake more (especially against Johnny), learn the proper spacing of your moves, when they're best used, etc. Also, watch more match videos. Not just Anji vs Johnny (though those can definitely help), but of Anji in general. Lime Key, Dry Ace, AGF, ANG.

Also, look to using other escape options when you're being pressured. What I've noticed is that you just try to Fuujin out when you think you have a good opportunity to, but if I keep baiting it, then it's not very useful. 1f jump, for example, is a good way to get out of stuff.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hX2VmHZWubA This match is pretty old but might be a good starting point. Watch how he jukes around with FD brake/backdashes, when and how he pokes, when he 1f jumps, etc. Also look for how he gets hit by stuff and think about what he could've done to avoid it.
