komradekraig Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 Someone with a really good computer needs to bring KOFXIII to the next casual meeting. i don't know what you are talking about.... i mean, shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
capsuletoyco Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 can i get a head count on who thinks they are going to attend the PWA tourney on August 6th. i want to run a blazblue team tourney instead of singles.
blueNINE Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 I have one that I could lend you, but I live 2 hours away from you so it would be a long trip for you to pick it up. You also have a poor track record when it comes to returning things to people, which makes me a little hesitant because I would want it back ASAP. I am quite honestly offended by that comment, and I'm not sure what made you say that. If I were to borrow an inPin from anyone, they could be assured that it would be returned promptly, either in person or by mail.
Why-Disciple Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 You shouldn't. I'm thoroughly enjoying it. Reviews for DNF are pretty much unanimously bad. I'm actually kind of disturbed by some of the things they're saying about it. What the hell happened?
The Katz Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 Reviews for DNF are pretty much unanimously bad. I'm actually kind of disturbed by some of the things they're saying about it. What the hell happened? My vote is that not much changed aside from the graphics and the occasional turret-scene, but those are only a pain on Come Get Some!. Most of the complaints I've seen are from people that probably never played the old games in their life, but whatever. Despite there actually being some difficulty to the game, I don't see anything 'wrong' with it.
Why-Disciple Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 From what I've heard, a lot of it is outdated- the puzzles and shooting levels are things that were already overdone ten years ago and the jokes would only have been relevent 4-5 years ago. I also heard there's a rape scene in which Duke shoots the victim and makes an abortion joke, among other things.
kona Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 Before I make a post on the SRK Trading Outlet, would anyone be interested in buying a PS3 TE from me sometime before ECT? I'm looking to get rid of it for $70.
Danny Schme Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 Before I make a post on the SRK Trading Outlet, would anyone be interested in buying a PS3 TE from me sometime before ECT? I'm looking to get rid of it for $70. Can I just use it at ECT? My stick is wildly unreliable on PS3s. Anyone who has been to NEC/WB/Bi-Weeklies knows this.

I recall girls being held captive in the older games, but not nude like in DNF. I didn't see them actually get raped, but who knows how alien junk works? I also did not bother killing any of them, but I did hear something around the lines of "Even I can't save you now..." in a somewhat sad tone from Duke. Edit: Despite the fact that I don't necessarily agree with it, the game was apparently meant to be offensive, just not overly or whatever. Basically seems like the "We're putting what we want and what seems lolsy, yet taboo, but don't give two shits about what anyone thinks of it" approach. Edited June 17, 2011 by The Katz
Danny Schme Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 IF YOU'RE GOING TO ECT, POST UP! New England has a room, its under my name. I'm just looking for get conversation going so people can figure out their ride situations and whatnot. The room is booked for Fri and Sat night. We check out Sunday morning but obv we can stay in the hotel for the rest of the tourneys. If you wanted to stay Sun night, not much I can do for ya. As far as I know, the Mindmobil3 is full and I do not have a car to drive. Last I heard there was about 8 people planning on going(?) so we'll need a 2nd driver. If you JUST decided you're going (hurry up and pre-reg. I think that ends on the 19th), also speak up.
Why-Disciple Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 I'm going, and I'm willing to drive if necessary.
kona Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 Can I just use it at ECT? My stick is wildly unreliable on PS3s. Anyone who has been to NEC/WB/Bi-Weeklies knows this. If it doesn't sell beforehand, I'll bring it to let you borrow it at ECT. Also, I'm confirmed for ECT but would need a ride.
Mystic Eyes Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 I'm going to copy pasta a review that I agree 100% with. Duke Nukem Forever is a good game. If you're looking for a game that defines the shooter genre, with masterful storytelling and tier one graphics, look somewhere else. If you're looking for a game that brings classic fps style into the modern gaming age with an over-the-top hero and a ridiculous plot, you've come to the right place. That's right, I'm counter-culture, baby. DNF wasn't a game meant to make reviewers happy. A warning here: Much like the "in bed" jokes everyone makes with fortune cookies, you'll be able to say "since its 12 years old" at the end of most of my statements. Try not to dwell on it though, since it wasn't actually 12 years of production time, and considering how many times it was totally restarted in that period, it probably only got a couple years of true production. Onto the review! DNF doesn't strictly follow current day FPS standards. The game flow has a definite classic FPS feel, from the pre-Halo days. The gameplay is mostly combat punctuated with the occasional physics or platform puzzle, along with a variety of special circumstances. This is where most reviewers seem to get hung up; they feel like the game is some kind of mish-mash of various gameplay types all thrown together without a true identity. I disagree. To me, it feels more like an effort to break up the droning grind of shooting with challenges of skill and logic, and that's something I can truly appreciate. The combat itself (on hard mode) is fairly intense and comes up in a variety of ways. Rather than strictly using the run and gun Halo system, or the duck and gun of Gears of War/pretty much any modern combat fps, you go through what I think I'll call 'clever combat'. Basically you tend to have to find a way to deal with a given situation, and there's no guarantees that it'll work next time, or even the whole way through this time. All in all, the combat aspect of the game really screams classic shooter. You also get to play with a lot of the stuff in the game world, which again is definitely telling of its classic shooter roots. 8-ball pool, weight lifting, slots, admiring yourself in the mirror, light switches, whatever. I also wanted to point out that unlike many games coming out these days, I have yet to run into a crippling or annoying glitch which seems to have become the trademark of the modern game. The story is absurd. I can't call it anything else. It starts at the end of Duke Nukem 3D, and picks up 12 years later (lulz) when the aliens return and Duke, the... um... (okay, so I don't know what he is aside from a BAMF, maybe that's all he needs to be) has to once again save the world all by himself. Duke is clearly some kind of minor deity, loved by all. The women are pretty much just throwing themselves at him, and he's perfectly okay with that. The game lacks realism, but I can't really call that a criticism since it was intended that way. Its chock full of potty humor, makes referential slights at other shooters, and I love every minute of it. My biggest problem with the game is the load times. Every time you die (and I die a lot on hard mode) you have to sit through 15-25 seconds of loading screen as apparently the entire game gets loaded back up again. The cutsie little hints they show stop being cutsie real fast. "Avoid taking damage to die less often" says the game. "Ha ha. Very funny." I reply, unleashing a string of expletives that peels the paint off the wall and questions the game's parentage. All in all, the game is colorful, quirky, sexy, and challenging, but not for everyone. If you liked the classic style of shooter, or humor that's rated I for Immature audiences only, then you'll probably be able to find room in your heart for DNF. Otherwise, you'll be best off staying away from this game. Hail to the King, Baby!
Fraga Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 (edited) snip Agreed, just finished myself and I loved it. Fuck casual FPS fans and terrible reviewers. Same people who gave Alice: Madness Returns a 6.5 (Though it's EASILY a 9.5, and I beat it and am working on New Game + on Hard. They also called the fighting "not deep compared to GOD OF WAR..." -GI which is bull when you're CONSTANTLY switching weapons and trying to exploit the enemy's weakness), Godhand a 3, and Imagine Babies a 7.5 Edited June 18, 2011 by Fraga
capsuletoyco Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 imagine babies...i don't think so, now imagine PARTY babies, now that is a 10+ right there
komradekraig Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 those babies just look like they are having so much fun. how could that game be bad? Also, Come On Baby at Pinball Wizard is pretty fantastic and that isn't even sarcasm.
kona Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 If anyone plans on going to ECT this weekend, today is the last day to pre-reg! If you reg at the door, venue fee is $35. Here's the pre-reg link: http://bit.ly/gbk5Vg
komradekraig Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 PWA Tuesday Night Fights is on tomorrow for non ECT related matters. We have, I believe, officially gone weekly. Also, they are getting an ST machine with sanwa parts. hope to see some fellas there. I'm gonna have my ps3 running AH3 all night.
Mindgam3 Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Weekly huh...So I know this has been asked before, but what's the roster of fighting games look like up there right now? Do you know what they're planning to get in the future?
capsuletoyco Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 we mostly just run the newer stuff and gg, but bring whatever you like really.
komradekraig Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 as far as machines go, i believe there is a darkstalkers and a killer instinct in the works.
CrownEmpress Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Against my better judgment, I am now extremely hype for this game: http://necrostorm.com/games/deathcargo/deathcargo.html
skd Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 (edited) Hi NE. Whos going to ECT? Anyone have space for me to crash? ;_; edit: OH MR SCHME. nevermind! :o Edited June 21, 2011 by not_lunaris
blueNINE Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Definitely need to figure out plans for ECT. Also, they are getting an ST machine with sanwa parts. i believe there is a darkstalkers and a killer instinct in the works. Sweet. By "Darkstalkers" I hope you mean "Vampire Savior", though, as that is the definitive version of the game.
Danny Schme Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 (edited) Hi NE. Whos going to ECT? Anyone have space for me to crash? ;_; edit: OH MR SCHME. nevermind! :o Sorry man =/ My room is packkked.
