frostedone Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 First off I was not sure where to put this thread. I am planning on buying this arcade stick http://www.amazon.com/PS3-Fighting-Stick-3-Playstation/dp/B000MWE3BI/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1285715816&sr=1-1 . Would anyone recommend it? The only fighting games I play is Blazblue and occasionally Street Fighter IV. I am having some trouble with some combos using the regular PS3 controller, especially those involving holding two buttons (like a and c). Also a reviewer says it uses the Japanese joystick. What does that mean? Also since it has been YEARS since I have been in an arcade, what is the best way to hold the joystick? Thanks! Edit: If you don't like this arcade stick, what would you recommend? How is the SFIV fight stick?
M.Song Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 that's one of hori's crappy budget sticks...its ok if you wanna get a stick for cheap but the buttons are hori's and they are very stiff in comparison to sanwas (arcade standard) by 'japanese stick' they mean its a square gate in comparison to the circle gates in us arcades i've gotten sticks similar to that one made by hori as well... it serves its purpose and is cheap, but if you are looking to play fighters for a long time you might want to invest in a HRAP V3 or a TE i guess
frostedone Posted September 29, 2010 Author Posted September 29, 2010 Are square gates still OK? I looked up the Real Arcade Pro. 3 Fighting Stick and that is a bit out of my price range. What is the TE though?
shtkn Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 most sticks in the world are square. i owned the PS2 version of the Fight Stick and let me say i hated the buttons on it. the Real Arcade Pro series are pretty good, i enjoyed mine until it got stolen. the TE is the Madcatz Tournament Edition stick. It's pretty good though i think the buttons are spaced a bit funny (not too big of a detriment). They had a deal on them last month for $100 online. Not sure about now.
M.Song Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 they are on sale again for 100 right now.. the HRAP V3 isn't out yet but should be coming out soon and that'll be 130 (140 for xbox and is called the VX) http://shoryuken.com/content/9-28-10-6-mad-catz-sale-20-30-fightsticks-100-f-s-round-2-te-chun-li-sale-1936/ (TE sale info)
frostedone Posted September 29, 2010 Author Posted September 29, 2010 Thanks for the link. I may check out that Madcatz stick. Is that stick and the Hori HRAP pretty sturdy? Also for those who have it, how is that Street Fighter fight pad? My local Gamestop has some in stock.
RaveSage Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 Like everyone else, I can attest that the buttons in the Hori stick are way to stiff. The joystick shaft is also much shorter than most other sticks so that's kind of an issue for people with big hands. Doubt you would be doing any modding either but when I tried to mod that thing it was hell. Most sticks ~$100 you'll find are very sturdy and take a beating well enough. If you wanted to spend a good bit more, wooden sticks are even sturdier I hear. Can't speak much of fightpads, but I heard there were issues with some models not working properly after a while. (Contact pads failing or something...) New ones I assume don't have this problem.
unsanctifier Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 just get the fight stick from madcatz, and replace the buttons yourself, it teaches you a thing or two about sticks, its comfortably spaced, and for the price you get a really good stick in terms of comfort! not the tournament edition, the special edition (cheaper one!)
frostedone Posted September 29, 2010 Author Posted September 29, 2010 Thanks everyone! Looks like the MadCatz TE stick it is then!
