I've played a few decent valks and I feel this matchup is crap for jin but I could be wrong. Tips?

I kinda feel the same way.

Be wary of 2B and 3C because they low-profile under Jin's 5B and 5C. His lack of a DP or other defensive maneuver hurts Valk, use that to your advantage and go for your best pressure strings. Wait for him to come to you as opposed to you chasing him because he has good anti-airs and good pokes to stop your approach if you're not careful.

Doesn't that knee attack act like some sort of DP? Go for the primers imo.

His 6A? It has guard point but I don't think it has it on the first active frame. There's that and his 632146D has some invisibility on start-up.

Hmm thanks for the tips. Later tonight I'll try to get some more info on this matchup, but I still feel Jin is at a disadvantage.

How so? Is it due to lack of match-up knowlege? I don't really have problems playing against him.

Again I could be wrong valk is still a very new character but basically it goes like this for me. He has better mid-range pokes, better close range game, better damage output, and gets through jins zoning pretty easily. His godlike anti air usually shuts down air shenanigans, and overall I feel clueless. If you have a good way of handling valk please tell me lol.

I guess you're right. In this match-up i tend to want to stay grounded more. And rely on 623A to slap poked or incoming wolf dashes. But when i'm up close. I don't really feel Valk to be a prob. As Moi said, lack of defensive options and lack of a solid DP on top of him having 4 primers which I can break easily. Makes him really weak against pressure.

I can see this being an even matchup honestly. Jin getting IB'd makes it pretty easy to poke out of some things with 5/2A and one of Jin's best pressure moves, his 6B I would guess can be beaten by Valk's 6A(Haven't tested yet but it should at least work on IB) Also Valks' pressure is rock solid himself. Yeah its easy to IB but his moves are generally safe even on IB. 6B and 6C are +8 and +6 respectively which means you can't IB>DP with 623D which hinders Jin a bit.

Also worth noting that Valk can bait DPs with his Wolf Dash. EX: Valk can do a basic blockstring of 5B>5C>236A which is +2 on block, -3 on IB. Valk can Wolf Cancel his 236A by going 4/5/7/9D. His 4D and 7D versions have invul frames during his backflip for the purpose of baiting DPs. So if he feels Jin might be getting antsy, he can cancel into 4D and bait a 623A/B and punish for around 5.5k with meter. So you do have to be careful not to spam shit or you will die for it. Also just so its known, his 4/7C dashes while in Wolf Form have the same invul as the Wolf Cancels.

One last little thing to keep in mind, Valk's Astral is a legit DP so while its rare, do pay attention to resets when the opportunity he can astral you occurs.

rely on 623A

one of Jin's best pressure moves, his 6B

I don't have any match-up experience so I should not be allowed to even talk, but this is :v:

People play against certin characters differently. I've stuffed a lot of valk's normals and wolf charges with 623A. Wether you consider it viable or not is up to you.

Thanks. For the info on Valk orion.

yeah i have trouble playing against valk as well simply because his anti air is too goddamn good and hits as high as a kite. I tried to bait it out everytime with a double jump and he was still able to reach me after my 2nd jump ~_~, which ofc led to a 4k combo....

For me personally, this match has been an exercise in reaction, knowing Valk's options and mixup, and punishing attacks. I usually end up waiting to poke him out of pressure with 5A or 2A. As far as approaching Valk, I've been trying to anticipate attacks and hit with a long or mid-range attack or an ice sword to land a CH. Not sure if these are the best options, but they are ones I've had some success with. Also I hate his ridiculous ground DD, except for the fact that if I block it all, I get a chance to CH. Idk about wolf spam though. I guess just look for punishable attacks in his strings or otherwise, do your best to block.
