Supa Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 I just tried to start seriously playing this, but every time I try "Here Comes Daredevil" and I get Millia and Testament, or Johnny and Venom.... then I have an anyeurism and die. Literally and in the game. I had a couple of questions.... What ruleset is this? Jam feels like #R. How do you not go into seizures after the forth Daredevil when Ino and Dizzy play volleyball with you? I'm thinking of trying Dramamine or something....
Kyosuke Kagami Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 IIRC GGI chars have #R properties, plus some weird ass FRCs included (Ky's H Vapor Thrust, Baiken's Yousanzen, etc.). The AI for this game likes doing some funny combo shit, but out of that it's pretty dumb imo. Also lol turn button
Circuitous Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 I just tried to start seriously playing this and there's your problem.
Heroic_Legacy Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Play Sol. Get 2P to play Sol. Bandit Bringer infinites!
Supa Posted October 12, 2010 Author Posted October 12, 2010 Ha, nice. I sort of expected the above, along with "suck less." The turn button is a bit infuriating - trying to do a quick low combo -> 2D -> oki..... wait, why am I facing the wrong direction? On the Atomiswave, Dust was replaced with Turn and the old S+HS is Dust. Doesn't help that some moves seem to automatically turn the character while others don't. It seems some knock-downs will automatically flip you, as well. A bit inconsistent. I'm on a personal mission to beat this, even if I have to burn up all of my W-blue-sky Freeplay lives.
DoctaMario Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 I picked this up for $6 at GameStop and was messing with it. I could see it being a fun party game with everyone just mashing it out, but I can see why it's somewhat unpopular. I'm kinda in the same boat though. I can't get by the second Daredevil thing (and whatthefuck IS that anyway? Who/what is Daredevil??) and I managed to find a PS2 copy of GGX so I've been playing that more.
Supa Posted October 18, 2010 Author Posted October 18, 2010 I think all of the arcade Guilty Gears have "Here comes Daredevil!" GGX, 1.5, Slash, XX#R would do that and give you some random character that often had a buff (faster, 100% tension, etc). The faster you KO the opponent, the less chance you have of getting the event, I think. I don't remember if ^C does - I'll find out in a few weeks. A.B.A. is in the PS2 Isuka, ya? You can do some fun stuff with her in that version. I think I'm at the point now where I can at least get turned in the right direction reliably and have stopped trying to Dust with Turn Still have yet to make it to Leopoldan or whateverhisnameis. Isuka seems solid to me. I'm actually a bit confused about why it was so unpopular. The turn thing is a bit annoying, but you can get used to it. It's not utter trash that people make it out to be and it's #R rules. I'd much prefer to play ^C, #R or Slash, but Isuka isn't terribly bad and it seems like it could be fun with two to four players.
Kyosuke Kagami Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 It is unpopular because, no matter if you get used to the turn button, it's still a very dumb feature and not all people will want to deal with it.
4r5 Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 When you are playing on an arcade machine, doing whatever single player stuff, if someone jumped in on the other player's side, whatever you were doing would be interrupted by the "Here comes Daredevil!" And you would be forced in to VS mode. It's like "Here comes a new challenger!" You know, they trying to knock you off the machine.
Supa Posted October 18, 2010 Author Posted October 18, 2010 Ya, it also happens "randomly" on the arcade versions where a CPU player does the same thing you're describing. Kinda fun, but kinda annoying when the matches aren't counting toward you getting closer to the boss. :\
PandaKingEX Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 It is unpopular because, no matter if you get used to the turn button, it's still a very dumb feature and not all people will want to deal with it. I like the turn button, though. It actually gives a layer of depth and mindgames being able to just turn around and run away or do other weird stuff. Man I love every guilty gear game so much, and it's kind of disappointing that other people can't accept/appreciate all the different things that it tries.
Abominable K Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 But you like Overture too ya weirdo j/k :3
Supa Posted October 19, 2010 Author Posted October 19, 2010 Finally... beat that damn thing.... So there is no logical tier or order of people you have to win against - once the level (top left of the screen) hits 100, you fight Leopaldon. Meteor things are infuriating and randomly suck away or gives you (?) full tension. That leaves only Slash and ^C to go.....

Man I love every guilty gear game so much, and it's kind of disappointing that other people can't accept/appreciate all the different things that it tries. I thought the same thing - it seemed pretty innovative and neat. I've only ever seen one Isuka cab in my life (not counting mine) and it didn't have any way to support 4 players. The actual system can support 2 "locally" (ie harnessed to the control panel along with an IO card card and harness for the other 2) or network play ala modern candy cabs. Seemed pretty spiffy to me. It has it's severe flaws (turning doesn't always seem logical, some knockdowns and specials turn you while others don't.... it's a bit tricky to predict at first) and it seems the background/foreground play has no real relationship to the actual match. :\

Man I love every guilty gear game so much, and it's kind of disappointing that other people can't accept/appreciate all the different things that it tries. yeah, new things can be awesome, but Isuka indeed sucks because of the turn button. its wonky and is an excellent example of making a simple function such as turning around into something a lot more complex. I don't know any other way the game would be playable while retaining its 2d fighter feel though. its still very irksome none the less and being able to run away isn't...exactly a good thing in my opinion.

I'm gonna respectfully disagree with you on that. EDIT: So I popped the game in after I posted this, and it's a cool game, but trying to fend off two opponents at once is
Supa Posted October 29, 2010 Author Posted October 29, 2010 I'm gonna respectfully disagree with you on that. EDIT: So I popped the game in after I posted this, and it's a cool game, but trying to fend off two opponents at once is Ya, that was my first impression, too.... but it's not as hard as it seems. The Computer players are always on the same team, so they won't attack each other.... unless they land hits by accident. So make sure to keep one of them sandwiched. Doesn't work with Potemkin, though, he won't accidentally throw the other CPU player, but he'll connect with other stuff. If you've got the PS2 version with A.B.A., the game is a whole lot easier..... I beat it with Jam. That was , especially with 236S being all sorts of unreliable (which way am I facing?!@$) and 623K not always lifting correctly.
Fenrir Werwolf Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 Isuka is a sort of bad GG Mugen :/ But for me, roks ONLY for the soundtrack, the only think done by Daisuke
Hecatom Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 (edited) kinda agree with the post above with me, excepet with the fact the GG isuka could be fun when 4 friends are around messing around, imo is a gem to have fun, not for taking seriously also the 1st GG for ps1 have the ability to turn around with the respect button (i think) at will on the air that give you a lot of freedom to do naty stuff when playing Edited October 31, 2010 by Hecatom
Kasou Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 i don't think any of you have given it much of a chance. The turn button is actually quite easy to get used to. Unfortunately, as great of a game i think Isuka is (custom team combos and strats ftw), there's just better alternatives. Oh as for fending off two players, it is actually very do-able. You have to do quick combos, combos that hit ppl in other lanes, and ready to use back attacks as well. Come to think of it, i think it would be a good side tourney ^^ i mean we could team up noobs with pros and battle it out. Anyway, I really miss playing with my jap friends, and would love to have recorded a few vids b4 they left. Oh well RIP isuka.
DoctaMario Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 Was this game ever competitive at all? It would be kinda cool to see 4 top players battling it out at once.
SealedSword Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 I really loved this game and still do XD. When I found out it was a 4 player Guilty Gear, I really expected it not to play anything like the other 1 on 1 fighters and pretty much went into the game with a 'party game' mood towards it. This game is a blast when you're playing with a few friends but you can't really expect the game to be fair if you're playing it on your own (or even with friends :p) The turn around button for me was abit frustrating for me at first but it's easy to adapt to that and becomes a reflex after a while. Just don't take this game really seriously and play it with a few other friends and its a really fun spin off (not saying that it's not fun to play CPU, but it's always better to play it with people you can have a laugh with xD)
