quaelgeist Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 Hi Let me start this request for aid with the statement that after churning my stick in challenge mode for nearly two weeks, i am close to despairing. And no, i didn´t want to post this in the combo thread since i think this problem is something beyond the mere move-sequences needed to describe combos, something meta :-) I simply can´t do Taos Combos with any degree of consistency. I think the reason for these constant failures is not me - in other fighting games like the bazillion Versions of Street Fighter for example, i can do even 1 frame links consistently (and without double tapping or PLinking). I think it´s not my controller either. High Quality Stick, working fine in other games. So... Do some special input method´s for Blazblue´s (especially Tao´s) Combos exist? I tried doing them exactly like the challenge mode told me to (although it doesn´t tell you what steps are links, what are cancels [let alone cancelation windows]). Didn´t work. I tried mashing - i had the most success with this method. Then i tried fancy stuff like keeping the stick in the 6 position so i only had to snap it to 9 to get a jump cancel. Had not much success with this either. So... do you have any tips on how to execute Taos most basic combos like B, 6A, j.c., jB, jC, j.c., jC, jC, 236BBBBB or 4BC, 2D6, j.c., jC, jC, jC, 236BBBBB ? Continuum Shift really seems like such an exiting game but i am close to dropping it out of frustration. Or maybe all of my problems described here are perfectly normal? How long does it take someone on average to learn these combos? 3 weeks? :-)
Ronove Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 They're normal, you simply have to get used to it. The combos you listed simply involve a sequence of jump canceled strings, so if you're having trouble you're probably inputting the jump cancel too late. Just move the stick on 9 as the attack you're jump canceling connects, and then let it go back to neutral position (5) meanwhile you execute the j.C or j.B or whatever and do the same thing again if you're jump-canceling one more time. It only takes practice and in the specific case of Tao it does take quite a bit of patience. Her learning curve may be a little steep especially for people coming from SF background rather than an airdashing fighter background (GG or MB) but it just takes constant practice.
ZONG_one Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 Also if you think you're doing something to early, (IE trying to jump cancel a move too early,) just hold the direction. Every input in BB (directional and button) have a 5F buffer if you hold it, meaning more of a chance to get the desired input.
Fieryelf Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 I just pretty much finished learning Tao recently and i have to admit that the timing on some move did take me some time to get used to. Unlike a lot of characters, her A B and C cancels require quite a tight timing and if you're playing online, the lag doesn't help at all, I'm pretty much stuck picking a minimum connection of 3 when playing Ranking at all time when i wanna play my Tao. Oh and if you think her combos are acting inconsistently (I thought the same thing when i started learning her) and you're still having trouble with the 2 combos you mentioned, You are gonna want to throw your controller around once you get to combo 9 and 10... Unfortunately, If you want to do decent damage, you're pretty much gonna have to learn them if you intend to keep on playing Tao... Combo 9 at least... Dunno if learning the Taunt loop is worth it anymore, i hear it's getting nerfed pretty bad in CS2 but I'm not sure if doing it a couple times before inputing the rest of the combo still increases the damage or not :/
XDest Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Even if taunt did any positive proration in CS2, taunt loop would STILL be dead. Every single drive has same move proration in loketest 5. Meaning if you use them more than once in the combo, your combo is dead meat. Unfortunately, this also limits a lot of drive cancel combos too. Hopefully our new j.B will help us fill the holes where we had to do multiple drive cancels of the same type before.
Patashnik Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 I had seriousproblems with Tao too. In the end, I just had to break challenge mode down painstakingly. Just practicing over and over the first three steps over and pver, then the first four steps over and over, then the first five and so on. For every challenge. Over and over. Not much fun, but it lowers the frustyration when your trying to take a massive ite out of challenge in one go. It definitely helped with that muscle memory : )
