Not sure if this is the right spot to post this buuuut i was wondering if there are any Canucks on here playing blaz. post up if you are!!!

hey yeah I was trying to gauge the over all scene for blaz in Canada. are scene is small here in Edmonton, maybe 14-16 players. Calgary i believe about the same but idk how many of them are active. Van seems to be the same as Edmonton/Calgary. I don't think there are scenes in Winnipeg or Sask Regina. But that's only because I haven't heard anything about any events or

gatherings.

For Match vids,. Canada Cup had some decent talent in it

I also host the tournament for Edmonton both on and offline, the online ones tend to be a bit bigger. when i can i stream the events.

but yeah i made this thread so i could gauge the interest that Canada has in blaz and maybe host something big in Edmonton for BB or online idk

Was that supposed to get us hype? Purple throws everywhere? Really?I'm gonna have to agree with Linear and say lolnetplay.

Anyways we're like 20-30 players here, still getting fresh blood and we have monthly tourneys. It's not SSF4 big but it's quite decent.

I'm not going to lie, I watched that and there was a lot of purple throws

those one might be better

But the point I'm getting at here, is that while in some cities the scene is really strong out east, it's almost non existent on the west side of Canada. if there was a tournament I would go to it, just like I did with Canada Cup. Try not to be harsh on us, honestly online 2 bar is not the best representation of one's skill but it is still good and exciting matches just the same. I enjoy hosting these online tournaments and the skill pool is growing. As well as the numbers in players who play in these online events.

The reason I started hosting them in the first place was to have players outside of edmonton join in these events and help us with match ups we might not be familiar with (Tsubaki, Arakune, Mu, etc etc)

I realize this is not nearly as good as just playing offline but it does help to some degree and it keeps things lively

We're not going to judge your level of play by a net game. Perhaps setting up a major and speaking to other Canadian cities while planning it out. If you do that, you can extract a huge turnout of great players with the right planning and a bit of luck. (GG has to be there <3)

Most Deff want to do that. I made sure that Blaz was at Canada Cup. Honestly I knew the turnout wasn't going to be as great as SSF4, but flying down JS master, Daigo, Mago, justin Wong, Mike ross Gootec. Spooky AND a $2 500 starting pot. Yeah we kinda had no chance in hell of getting to that same level of hype. I am going to try to get BB at the next major I host. I host it at every tournament I have and it is progressively getting bigger. But there has always been the question for players from the eastside coming to west "why go there when the tournaments are so small". That is kind the way it's been for me all the way from mvc2 to now.

Idk what GG is like on a highly competitive scale. I know that I like BB and I want it to be just as big on the west side of Canada as it is on the East. Thing is, it takes time. So I'm doing the best I can to get it there. If that means doing some online tournaments and getting a more stronger scene between both Edmonton, Calgary and even Van then so be it. It's better than playing in the back ground and doing nothing.

Try to respect my hustle lol

It's not THAT big in the east lol. Except for T.O. maybe. IDK about them.

Our scene is pretty chill, a bunch of free niggaz. It says a lot when our top player was a tager for 2 months straight.

Anyways, good luck on setting your scene straight. Getting team NAH out of their cribs is no easy feat.

BTW who is Linlex? Is he on dustloop? You should try getting CAKE in your tourneys, he's in BC too.

tbh im like the only one who plays bb online in toronto. and not even that much in toronto. the best guys all play offline because they're close to an arcade where they meet up at. i would do that too if i had a car and could go often.

Isn't Xdest from Toronto? He plays online too!

It's not enough to have Majors to get a greater turn out for your community, you should also host monthly tourneys. But don't make the entrance fee expensive so that people aren't willing to go. $5 entrance fee would be ideal enough for people to play seriously but not too expensive that those that are broke can't afford to participate.

It'll create attention for the game, as well as becoming friendly with the other fighting game communities be it tekken or sf. That way those that get tired of [insert game name] can go and invest themselves with the blazblue community. You also want to have a casual meet up location that everyone knows about so as it keep the community alive and consistent.

Majors/Regionals aren't enough my friend. Hope what I said helps your community grow, this is basically what we did with the Mtl community and we went from 5->20 or so.

You want to listen to what Unsanc says; GG is integral to the community but don't go and promoting tournaments until the BB scene is solidified, but allow for casuals for the GG vets that are relatively involved in the community. That way the BB community stays alive with competitive play. There's GG vets EVERYWHERE just so you know, just gotta find them.

Hope what I said helps, also Nini is the Linear to the Mtl netplay community. Shoutouts to Nini for stay dictatorial unfree on netplay.

Well to be honest one of the many things i've been able to do is get flyers for online/offline events inside of EBgames and game stops (yes i am able to do that), Jumping on the bus handing out flyers. Going to every mom and pops place around schools and posting flyers up for the events. i do run BB along side of SSF4 events. One thing that I have been doing is grow the GG scene and host Mbaa, GG and BB at the same time. if the scene isn't large enough then i will try to just add those games into ssf4 and mvc3 events, so that the games are getting out there.

One other thing I will start doing is hosting weekly gatherings at my place and continuing to post up videos of the players playing and show them to other players either here or the BB website and get peoples opinions on what they our players need to work on.

Example is I show my match videos to XDest and he pretty much breaks down EVERYTHING i do wrong haha. Can't say I'm happy with what is being said all the time, but you don't get anywhere if you can't take criticism from people.

I'd like to think I have gotten better from this

to this

On another note, i fully understand the challenge and difficulties behind event organizing and community building. I've been int he Fighting game community since 2002. My experience for GG/BB is very very limited so I know it'd take a while before I understand how this community works and how to grow it from where it is now, to where it should be in future events etc etc

I thank you for your advice.

Also i was thinking that we could use this forum to perhaps get more word out there about Canadian BB and possibly show people that there is a strong comprehensive scene for this game in Canada.. Idk up to you guys haha

aren't you from Vancouver? or somewhere BC lower mainland? You do know there's an already established GG "community" there. just come hang out with us. if you really want to strengthen BB, it's probably a good idea to start where GG players are.

Also, I don't think you need a community building or anything like that. I feel you're treating this situation too professionally, which can be a turn off. A community forms naturally. You don't need an organization, or a community center, or anything like that. All of those things will come once you find a group of people who play and enjoy the game.

Vancouver GG players don't like BB, but that doesn't mean we don't play it. If you're so bent on starting a BB scene, you should really start there (if you live around that area).
