Astaroth136 Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 That's Wednesday for us buddy. We can have the awesome Alex vs Hugo stare-down when it drops though. DAMN IT ALL! IIRC, Arcade games used to come out on Tuesday. I haven't dl'ed an XBLA game in so long...
Papstr Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 Naimat: You sure love to complain a lot. Humor me please: What defines a "unique" character to you? Something never done before? In what way? Akuma has air fireballs, unlike the other "shotos" would that not make him unique? Yet everyone calls him a typical "shoto" as well. People call Ragna "uncreative" or "dull" but how so? A charging punch, fair enough, and his hades is alot like bandit revolver and he's got a dp and shit. But what about the concept of life steal? What about the fact that his super isn't just a speed boost or power boost, it actually makes his drives specifically larger? As well as granting additional properties on hit? You play Bang, so clearly he must be considered "unique" to you? Nails are just Akuma fireballs. His drive is just a 3rd Strike parry that follows up for you. His design as an obnoxious ninja has been done to death. He brings nothing new to the table. Let the flame war begin. "Ready to set the world on fire? eh heh heh..." Also: sup guys
LastStarSaviour Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 (edited) I'd like to interject here if I may, the term "unique" is completely subjective. A unique character isn't defined by the number of weird moves they have but rather on how you can evolve the gameplay of the character itself. By saying "Oh, he doesn't have this and that" you limit yourself to not thinking outside the box. I don't know much about the specific character you guys are ranting on about but i'm sure if you actually "played" the character in time you will find ways to make him seem creative and different. Again, it's all about your ability to manipulate a character fully that will decide if they're unique or not. I always see new gimmicks coming out for characters in BB (sadly nothing new has been discovered for Noel). Instead of asking "Is he unique?" ask yourself "would he be unique if I did this, this, and this?" You'll get much better results and have a lot more fun that way. Grimstar Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 (edited) I define dull gameplay as aiming to do the EXACT same thing in almost any given situation. That's pretty much BB in general though. Well, CS1 at least. Dunno about 2 so much. Edited August 23, 2011 by Grimstar
LastStarSaviour Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 I don't get what you mean, please elaborate? It sounded like you just described every fighting gane in general grimstar.
Jackie Chandler Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 I thought you played Marvel, Grimstar. Isn't that game all about crossing up/over as you call in an assist?
Astaroth136 Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 He actually only described the original street fighter (the one with just Ryu and Sagat). No other fighting games fall into his description though...

Seiki Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 Papstr I'm not going to waste much time on you since you aren't worth it and that your argument is flawed in that you don't seem to understand that akuma's fireballs and bang's nails don't serve the same purpose. Bang's nails aren't used to space or vortex like akuma's, they are used to mixup his highs/lows with his command grab, etc. You can't use them willy nilly since you only get 12 and they do no damage. Since when do you throw out akuma's fireballs to bait zangief's command grab? oh right never, but you use web nail to bait tager's command grab. I can go on but you get the picture and if not well there's no helping that special brain of yours *pat pat*. while ragna's moves might look different from sol, they serve the same purpose. Dragon Install is a damage boost and so is blood kain. Yeah it changes the properties of your attacks but smart Ragna players don't just pull it out because the opponent will run away and you basically gave them free damage so you don't really take advantage of those large hitboxes on his moves. It's mainly used as combo filler and if you think about it it makes more sense that way since some of the properties that it alters i.e. hell's fang wallbounce caters to more or less extending combos and not providing him with new tools to open up opponent's, added mobility, etc. aspects of a character outside of combos. So yeah dragon install and blood kain are more or less the same in their purpose. @Star: yeah what is unique is subjective. No shit. Your opinion on what is unique is subjective. My opinion specifically: If i see a move that a character has and that design has been used before and has therefore been flushed out in terms of how it's used then is it unique? I give mu stein and i give strange stein. Chances are they use it the same way more or less. Ofcourse maybe strange can cross up with his with a teleport, but the main point is they both can and will use stein mainly to zone and force the opponent to block so they can go in for a mixup. Strange's mixup is a crossup teleport, mu's is...idk whatever she does, but i always see mu players dash in after they activate their steins since even if she gets hit the opponent gets hit by the bouncing projectile. I saw what Strange can do...and I've seen other characters in other videogames have several of his moves. That doesn't mean he isn't unique (which he kind of isn't) to the mvc3 universe it's just not something i haven't seen before. @billy: "I define dull gameplay as aiming to do the EXACT same thing in almost any given situation. That's pretty much BB in general though. Well, CS1 at least. Dunno about 2 so much. " A)not everyone plays cs1 hazama where you do the same bnb no matter what, jayokou>same bnb, and you just throw chain and d followup if it hits. B) no wonder you were bad at blazblue. C)that doesn't fly in any half decent fighting game, not even marvel....well except if you play wolvie/akuma then you get 50/50's no matter how you position yourself. Seriously wolvie/akuma is worse than phoenix. Wolve/akuma/phoenix makes me want to cut myself THAT or anyone with an otg/haggar/phoenix(or good anchor)
Seiki Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 Naimat - "laying down the law circa 1992-infinity"
Jackie Chandler Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 "And when Naimat spoke, all the water in Middle Tennessee turned into salt."
LastStarSaviour Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 Lol, that's what Naimat is always good for, providing the debate-inclined with ample entertainment. I need to jump in these more often. Jackie, don't invite me to play Black Crops when you know I don't have it.
Jackie Chandler Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Sorry Star, I didn't mean to. I was trying to invite my dad and the kid I babysit into a lobby and your name was right above his. :P
Papstr Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 I'm Naimat. I turn to personal insults because I'm dumb! Bang and Ryu are the same cuz they have the same purpose: they punch the other guy. To add to it, Akuma and Bang's fireball and nails also serve the same purpose, cuz they damage the other guy and throw shit in the air!
Jackie Chandler Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Hold on guys, I need to go put some popcorn in the microwave.
LastStarSaviour Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Just have some of mine Jackie. *passes the bucket*
Astaroth136 Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 The bottom of that bucket has a hole in it, Chandler. Don't fall for that trap...
LastStarSaviour Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Ah yes, the joke questioning my sexuality. Amusing as always Astaroth, but let's try to be mature here and not... *Sighs*
Jackie Chandler Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 He's not questioning your sexuality if he's implying you have a dick.
Astaroth136 Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Yeah Star, I really wasn't questioning your sexuality. Wasn't trying to offend anyone either. I'll stop posting now.
LastStarSaviour Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 (edited) Well, this has certainly got off topic. Mind if I go ahead and put this conversation on the correct course? I was referring to the fact however that he was questioning my heterosexuality. Edit: It's cool Astaroth, everything is in the name of disturbing humor. I will mention ahead of time that I hate gay jokes though. Edited August 24, 2011 by LastStarSaviour
Jackie Chandler Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 I don't think anyone took it that way, Star. If anything, Astaroth was complimenting you. Considering you were passing the bucket, you'd need one Gigantic Tager for it to reach over to the next seat. Besides, I know plenty of straight guys who would do something like that just to troll. But anyway, back on to Blazblue stuffs. I finished the new version of my combo video, and I'll be uploading it tonight. Hope you guys are looking forward to it. :D
Seiki Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 "And when Naimat spoke, all the water in Middle Tennessee turned into salt." They didn't call it the Dead Sea until I swam in it.
Astaroth136 Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Besides, I know plenty of straight guys who would do something like that just to troll. Urge to make jokes... rising... They didn't call it the Dead Sea until I swam in it. And I've got a great joke for this one too. Damn you Star for taking away all my fun!
