Astaroth136 Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Didn't someone say Marvel was at the mall tomorrow or something? Or am I just crazy? Correct. Marvel/AE/3S tournament tomorrow at GG. Also, I discovered an input glitch in Ultimate. Props to Doro for the recording. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KuTHhlj87Qw
LastStarSaviour Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Ah, now I have to try and convince myself to get up and go. This won't end well...
Seiki Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 It's not really a glitch Doro. It's that the buffer system is even more lenient than in vanilla. the last input of the first quarter circle is forward and because you did the second quarter circle so fast it uses that last forward input as the first input for the second super and thus you get forward, quarter circle which is srk motion. I noticed with Nova I couldn't immediately cancel a quarter circle special into his gravimetric blaster or otherwise i would get the srk motion super. For some reason they have increased the buffer time slightly in this game.
Jackie Chandler Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 I'm taking a break from Marvel. I just had the most frustrating session of online in my entire life.
LuminAbyss Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 I'm taking a break from Marvel. I just had the most frustrating session of online in my entire life. I suggest anywhere from an eternity to forever.
Jackie Chandler Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 I suggest anywhere from an eternity to forever. God, I'm thinking about it.
Jackie Chandler Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Play Melty Blood. I want to get into Melty Blood, actually. Besides, at least it doesn't have an online where people play Ranked while they're torrenting shit and do the most blatant cross-up teleports in a lame attempt to open people up and manage to get away with it.
LuminAbyss Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Melty Blood is increasing my defense, big time. Mainly cause my character has slow pokes and no reversals outside of Shield Bunker and Knife Super (which still isn't that good). It's fun because you have to respect and disrespect so much at the same time. And it's easier to force your opponent to respect your shit because reversaling out is REALLY tight in that game. I went back to BB today and I was Inferno Dividering out of everything. Why? CAUSE IT'S SO MUCH EASIER IN BB. If anything, the only part of the game I don't like is everyone can confirm into 4k off 2A. But then again, EVERYONE can do it, so it's not like it's broken. And in Current Code, they nerfed the damage universally. Plus, there's so many different characters, and each character has a different style depending on what moon you pick, that you'll be hard pressed not to find someone who fits your style exactly. Give it a shot, it's really fun.
Seiki Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 (edited) Lol chandler everyone has the "chandler" factor in marvel. So yeah you are basically fighting yourself. Atleast to me the way the game is played reminds me of your playstyle. (not saying it's scrubby!...just kinda random but safe). also if anyone wants to get games in BB im online atm. Jackie Chandler Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Give it a shot, it's really fun. Once I get my PS2 back, I definitely will. Yoshi (Milln's roommate who isn't K.O.) plays and has been trying to get me into it for a while. It's hard to tell if I'm getting good or not when nobody within reasonable driving distance plays, and there's no online, though. :/ But I'll still play it, even if it's only recreationally. So, I took a walk and I'm calmed down a bit, but I still want to do some Marvel ranting (which can be a discussion if anybody wants to make a response to it). I have more fun with the game whenever I'm in Training Mode, Mission Mode, or Arcade Mode. Being able to freestyle combos and mess around, on top of challenging myself on some of the more ridiculous-looking combos, is rewarding to me in terms of enjoyment. Whenever I play online or against people, however, it's a whole different story. I can never open anybody up, and I get shut down by trying to punish the stupidest shit- but that's not the real reason I have problems with the game. I hate how there's so much of an emphasis on cross-up teleports and assists (often at the same time) and such little emphasis on blockstrings and overheads (at least on the ground). It's like every character has two or three effective moves to open an opponent up with, normally involving an assist set-up or both of you trying to attack each other at the same time, and the rest of the moves are just combo filler, if not completely useless. Another thing I hate is that people can get away with disrespecting knowledgeable players so easily. It's like... Knowing what your opponent is capable of doesn't mean anything if you have to guess when they pull out x setup. I don't feel like there's much reaction involved in a lot of predicaments in Marvel- only guessing when to do what. On that note, I guess the problem I'm having with Marvel right now is that there's a big game of "when" and not "what." WHEN do I switch my blocking direction during this cross-up setup? WHEN do I throw out an attack when we're staring at each other? WHEN do I try to punish something possibly unsafe? There's not a lot you can do to prepare for these scenarios- you just do your best when they happen (which they do often) and hope for the best. IMO. Lol chandler everyone has the "chandler" factor in marvel. So yeah you are basically fighting yourself. Atleast to me the way the game is played reminds me of your playstyle. (not saying it's scrubby!...just kinda random but safe). Lol, "random but safe." I can see that. :P
Papstr Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Hey, me n Chandler discussed the above earlier!
LuminAbyss Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Marvel is a stupid silly game. If you play it, I sure hope you're going into it with the same mindset as Brawl. Hell, I'd even give Brawl more props as a real competitive game. And that's saying something.
Cyner Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 I had a very similar epiphany with Marvel, not from getting killed online but from just playing it in general. Honestly my favorite(non-melee) fighters right now are BB and MK
Seiki Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Chandler the game is just a different beast. You gotta keep playing it to understand it. I felt the exact same way when i first started but if you endure a month of the bs you learn to accept it and it doesn't become as ridiculous as it seems. You can react to stuff you just have to be FAST. Some of the best marvel players are great at other fighting games because they just have great reaction. (Justin Wong came from marvel 2 to street fighter). I was frustrated at first with assist spamming but again you can't approach this like other fighting games. You chuck that projectile super when you see that assist and let'em eat that damage. You gotta learn to not treat it or compare it to other fighting games. It is a fighting game...but it breaks a lot of the "understood" aspects of other fighting games i.e. blockstrings, supers not being safe, canceling whiffed normals into specials or hypers, etc. This doesn't mean it isn't a good fighting game. I think there is thinking involved...just a different kind than in most conventional fighters. For example, blockstrings. MvC does have blockstrings. but it isn't just doing A,B,C because you'll just get advance guarded after the b and you are pushed away. It's more like (and this is a super simple example) A, B + assist, move in to continue pressuring with your normals. When the opponent uses advancing guard against your assist you arent pushed back and this allows you to continue pressuring while the opponent is blocking your assist. you have to treat it separately as its own beast. Trust me it's a fun game once you get over da saltiness.
Papstr Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 When the opponent uses advancing guard against your assist you arent pushed back Sure about this? Have been pushed back because someone AG'd my dormammu hole assists before.
Seiki Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Sure about this? Have been pushed back because someone AG'd my dormammu hole assists before. You will get pushed back if your point character's attack makes contact with them after the last hit of black hole. This goes for any assist to. You can test it in training mode.
Astaroth136 Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 It's not really a glitch Doro. It's not a matter of inputting things fast. It's the fact that, even though real time is passing, input time is frozen. You are right that the 6 input is counted from the first 236 motion. The other problem is that this only affects supers that have a hyper freeze of 12 or more frames. A guy over on SRK tested every character and made a list of who it affects.
Astaroth136 Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Chandler, that feeling is going to happen. You'll get used to it after a while. Marvel is just a fast-paced game, must faster than SF and BB. Naimat, I'm glad you came to the conclusion that Marvel is fun and you got the saltiness.
LastStarSaviour Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Yo Naimat, what time should I show up to your place/leave?
Seiki Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 I'm working on thanksgiving till 5 so 5:30 is good. And uhm i go to work the next day at 12:30p.m. so anytime before that you'll need to leave. If your mom has issues picking you up real late, since you live close to me i can take you home if it gets real late. It would be a good time to start learning KOF maybe introduce you to marvel etc. If anyone else wants to come let me know...but if you do come try to bring a set-up.
Volpe-de-Glacio Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Can't wait to move and get quality internet. I'm getting rusty with no one to train with. . .
Alphakami Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Haven't bought our touched UMvC3 yet, or any games for that matter. Naimat, I MAY still make it out to your place next week. Here's hoping.
Milln Posted November 20, 2011 Author Posted November 20, 2011 Ohshi, thanksgiving at Naimat's? I could do that. I live so far away from my parents I can't justify going over for a few hours. Can I come, too?
Seiki Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Everyone is welcome to come. Just bring set-ups lol. Anyone with KOF umvc or bb bring it!!
