LastStarSaviour Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Yo Naimat, what's your opinion on this team right here: Mr. Karate/Athena/Ex Kyo? @Milln- If I had had the money yesterday I would've picked up graces instead of Kof. That game is too good, dodged a bullet this time.
Milln Posted April 9, 2012 Author Posted April 9, 2012 (edited) Okay for real. Why does everyone ask exclusively Naimat about KOF? Did I miss a running gag? @Star: Jolly good. But Graces isn't a fighting game. Edited April 9, 2012 by Milln
Milln Posted April 9, 2012 Author Posted April 9, 2012 I dunno, Milln. You could just ask Naimat. .... *scrunch face*
LastStarSaviour Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Okay for real. Why does everyone ask exclusively Naimat about KOF? Did I miss a running gag? @Star: Jolly good. But Graces isn't a fighting game. Well, Naimat seems to be generally more knowledgable about the game. Plus I kind of trust what he has to say over you, so yeah... Also, when did I ever say it was a fighting game?
Seiki Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Yo Naimat, what's your opinion on this team right here: Mr. Karate/Athena/Ex Kyo? Huge Analysis incoming: It's a solid team. Ex Kyo is an ok anchor and even though Ex Kyo can't really use meter like regular kyo can his HD combo is very easy to execute and does decent damage so if tourny nerves are in play he is your go to guy to make sure you don't drop your hd combo but at full health chances are your opponent will survive ex kyo hd combo. So take that into consideration if you put him as anchor. Because generally when it comes down to both players' last character you want to wrap it up in one HD combo, cause if you don't the opponent probably will with his/her Shen, Yuri, etc. If you do feel like going the extra mile execution wise Mr. Karate is a better anchor than Ex-Kyo but his HD combos are a bit harder and his hit confirm from light hits (like lp and lk) into HD mode is a bit tighter. That said, Mr. Karate is better at bringing comebacks because he can combo into his super both midscreen and in the corner without using drive. and the combos usually dish out 400 damage to 450. This is great because he can save the drive for the opponent's last character. and even if you opt to use a drive he builds meter really easily. Personally I would set-up your team order as: Ex-Kyo/Athena/Mr.K There are some matchups that nest kyo struggles with like billy kane, king, ralf, and clark which Mr. Karate is better suited for so take that into consideration. Basically if you are struggling with Ex-Kyo against certain characters switch to Mr. Karate on point and Ex-Kyo in the back. I guarantee you Mr. K has all you need to deal with the entire cast. Athena in the middle is a good spot. You don't want to rely on her to make any comebacks and her hd combos are on the weak side let alone the fact that hit confirming into her HD mode is pretty difficult. She is kind of there to wear out the opponent's team slowly. With her you dont want to risk going for big damage. Just play it safe and keep the opponent at a distance all while building meter for Mr. K or Ex Kyo. If you are just getting butt raped in the zoning area it's not a bad idea to put athena on point. She is kind of built to be anti-zoning/zoning character. But Mr. K gets in on zoning chars for fray with his counter special anyways so idk when you would do this. All in all solid team. You have two great characters and one that's ass. but eh it evens out.
Seiki Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Well, Naimat seems to be generally more knowledgable about the game. Plus I kind of trust what he has to say over you, so yeah... Also, when did I ever say it was a fighting game? I appreciate that you respect my opinion but Milln does know the game better than i do overall. I just know a lot about the characters i play but that's it. In general, everyone should seek advice from everyone else. I guarantee you some of the scrubbiest players have some unique strategies that even top players could learn. They might be shitty players but they can also be intelligent people so yah never know.
LastStarSaviour Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 I'm not doubting that he probably does. But if you noticed when I had many of the problems I did have with Kof, the one who was able to give me the most logical responses was indeed you. Whether he knows more or not, i've seen and listened to you resond to things more often. So naturally I would ask this person over someone who just puts "this" and "they are a good character" or "Do I need to explains things to you too" without really explaining anything at all. Plus, even if you aren't right about something it still sometime gives me a general idea of what's happening. It's just all about who i've seen and heard more, and i've never once actually talked in-depth all the way down to mechanics with Milln yet. So yeah, take it as you will. Hm, when I was setting the team order I was basing it off of who required meter more. I'm not sure if it's 100% accurate but it seems to be so. I've got no problems with the combos, but if Ex Kyo is having trouble with Match-ups then it mght be better to go with Mr Karate on point. I might even think about switching out Nests Kyo if him as anchor can't get the job done, still got Yuri and Mai for ancho after all. Also, if I know a Mai 99% almost completely by heart could she make a more viable anchor than Ex Kyo? Plus I thought about a bit of Elisabeth too so I might want to squeeze her in there somewhere.
Seiki Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Mai is a bad anchor on paper. But if your ex kyo is terrible I would put Mai as anchor just because you are extremely comfortable with her. But I think Mai works best second similar to why Athena does as well. Mai's main tools and what makes her useful in a team is her deceptive projectile's speed for zoning and hitting people mid-jump and her neomax. I believe you can punish on reaction most jumps with it. So if people know about this they'll stay grounded more and you can establish pressure/zone easier. She needs meter so it's best to have her second ready with it as soon as she comes in to optimize Mai's usefulness in your team. Mai is terrible as an anchor because she just lacks any tools to open people up. Not much of a high low game or a command grab. You need someone like that if you are going to plow through 2+ characters. Because going through 2 characters with Mai is a grind. You are going to have to zone and when you go in for damage you are risking getting hit and when you do land a hit the damage isn't enough to warrant the risk vs 2 characters. Elizabeth is another good second character seeing as her main role in a team is getting damage and juggles off of almost any hit. Hitting you with an air to air and then juggling you off of them with her specials and super. She is good at converting stray hits at odd positions and angles into significant damage all without using drive, which is good for your anchor, But she needs meter for her damage to have an impact on the match and is why i think she does best second.
LastStarSaviour Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 (edited) Naimat, let me know about your ride situation for tomorrow. I may be able to get us a ride. Also Volpe, answer your phone, we need to discuss PowerUp details. Edited April 10, 2012 by LastStarSaviour

Milln Posted April 10, 2012 Author Posted April 10, 2012 Star i dont have a car to pick you up. Don't worry about me. I'll just walk to the arcade. I need a ride. lol. I can bring you, Naimat, if Star doesn't come through.
Papstr Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Buy Skullgirls people. Even if it doesn't necessarily pick up here, just buy it to support it, so we can have more community driven games like that. It's out on ps3 today, and on 360 tomorrow. K that's all lol.
Tophatmoffet Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Buy Skullgirls. Do it. ...so we can have more community driven games like that. what do you mean by community-driven?
Milln Posted April 10, 2012 Author Posted April 10, 2012 Skullgirls is an indie game, developed In part by Mike Z. Mike Z is, or was, a notable BlazBlue Tager player. He also did the Tager strategy disc when BlazBlue first launched in states. Remember "Real SOVIET damage!"? That's Mike Z.
Tophatmoffet Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Indie or not, it's not quite what I'd call community-driven. Sure Mike made it, but "community-driven", at least to me, implies collaborative effort to make and maintain it. Here, its just Mike and Reverge labs. Also page 500.
LastStarSaviour Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Well, he did also play multiple builds with many other players to help make sure it was as balanced as possible. I'm downloading it now as we type. @Naimat: Wish you could've told me sooner. Could've kept the car today. Might still get it if she's home early enough, i'm not promising anything though.

Like Star mentioned before I got back: he play tested it and had builds available at many events and tournaments to play test and used community input as balancing and ideas.
Papstr Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Like Star mentioned before I got back: he play tested it and had builds available at many events and tournaments to play test and used community input as balancing and ideas. That's what I meant by community-driven yes. Should've specified. Lol. ANYWAY, I can't wait to try the game, though I doubt I'll actually enjoy the gameplay lol (mvc2 style never clicked for me, and so far no character has grabbed me... yet) but I'm definitely buying it to support. Also the artstyle hnngh
Tophatmoffet Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Eh, I'm just arguing semantics anyway. Yes, I remember every one of those game builds, way back before filia's frames were colored. I'm Really hype for this game. I've been waiting for it for years. Also this video makes me laugh.
Vocal Sabre Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Well since everyone is asking Naimat I might as well ask too...I wanna run Mai/EX Kyo/Terry...any thoughts?
Seiki Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Well since everyone is asking Naimat I might as well ask too...I wanna run Mai/EX Kyo/Terry...any thoughts? that's a good order. Switch Mai with Ex Kyo for matchups you are struggling with as Mai. If the opponent is getting in easily on mai, ex kyo has moves to get people off of him. His rekkas have guard point, his shoryu has guard point, and so does his ex choke move. Use those moves on aggressive characters to get them to respect you. I like Terry in the back he does big damage with meter and the combos are very simple. Plus his j.D crosses up really easily. If you don't like doing HD combos then Terry is a good anchor however he lacks in the HD combo department so dont expect touch of deathing people.
