Rishtopher Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 Relius is coming across like a less complicated, Stronger "Easier to win with" Carl. I can see a fuck load of Relius players online. Pretty much this, as much as I hate to admit it.

Sphere211 Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 I can see them abusing her spindash and Relius's command dodge. How easy is it to punish the dodge? I suppose we could bait it out... And I haven't seen a super damaging Relius combo yet, all the videos I've seen probably went to 3-4k, but I'm probably just not watching the right stuff, idk. =/ If anyone can find me a video where he lands 5k or more I'd be interested in seeing it.

Sphere211 Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 You have just made my day. Thank you for that. =w=
Guardian Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 Good luck hitting someone with that starter though. To me he's looking like Eddie with less damage. He's gonna be ALL about unblockable setups though; it's just gonna take a bit of time to find the right setups.

Considering Carl's learning curve was the highest out of all of the characters in the game, I'm pretty sure Relius is still not going to be scrub friendly at ALL.
Diveman Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 Considering Carl's learning curve was the highest out of all of the characters in the game, I'm pretty sure Relius is still not going to be scrub friendly at ALL. You're implying that Relius plays like Carl, which is wrong.
Rishtopher Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 It's the fact that he looks like a stronger, "easier to win with" Carl. Not that he plays like him at all. Anyone who thought Carl was cool but couldn't get used to him is going to be jumping on Carl Liteâ„¢. I don't doubt that he might have a high learning curve, but he honestly doesn't look as hard as Carl at all.
Fujiwara Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 I was wondering, and this may come off as stupid, since I've never played Carl. Do RC effect the puppets too? I was watching Shadow play Relius earlier and I saw the DD where the puppet attacks kinda like Nirvana's, and had a whole "What if I could RC here and and air combo" moment.
Rishtopher Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 RCs don't affect Nirvana or Ignis. Only Carl and Relius respectively.
darkpuppeteer Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 It might be said that relius is a easy version of Carl but I doubt it. Since relius isn't bound by the loop system that Carl is I can see some really devestating combos. I keep watching shadow and notice his gear dd has a 5 sec duration before it starts another combo
MashThat5A Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 How about 8k? Even if you land that combo, you're probably better off dropping the first super and keeping the meter.
LuminAbyss Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 You're implying that Relius plays like Carl, which is wrong. I know he doesn't, but he certainly doesn't look easy either, and people were comparing him to Carl.

I dont think Relius would be hard at all but that'd probably only apply to those who already use Carl...lol such as myself. lol
Rishtopher Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 lol, why are none of these Carl mains ever posting in the Carl subforums? We're dying over there D: And good point actually. I'd thought that most of the people taking in interest in Relius would be Carl players, that's my faulty logic at work there lol.
Sphere211 Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Carl forums are pretty slow =[ and there's still not a Plat matchup thread which I've been neglecting to make since I have no real contributions to it. e.e I'll do my best to keep it alive ;-;

That's the biggest downside of playing the least used character, since a big discussion is less likely to happen and there are less people to contribute ideas. It's a tough job, but someone's got to do it.
BladeOfJustice7 Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Character that gives you almost two characters to play with is never easy. Conversely, playing with two characters once you learn how to play with them effectively, makes it harder to beat you. lol, why are none of these Carl mains ever posting in the Carl subforums? We're dying over there D: And good point actually. I'd thought that most of the people taking in interest in Relius would be Carl players, that's my faulty logic at work there lol. You're not too far off on that logic actually. Just give the game time. Relius I'm sure will be an easier pick up for Carl players than the rest of use. Carl forums are pretty slow =[ and there's still not a Plat matchup thread which I've been neglecting to make since I have no real contributions to it. e.e I'll do my best to keep it alive ;-; NO discussion can really take place until the first post. I only checked the carl forums once, but I can tell ZONG doesn't maintain it as well as Spark. They could use a co-mod there. Skye would be a good choice. Not that ZONG is a bad mod, in case he's reading this <3 Well, I guess the best you could do would be to just make the thread and hopefully someone will start posting info in it. It's a tough job, but someone's got to do it. This. Nothing will come out until someone makes the first move. it's like picking up a girl, you could stare at her all day but in the end (assuming you're the guy) it has to be you with the opening liner to initiate conversation. Until then you'll just be staring at each other awkwardly wondering what to say to each other.
Darlos9D Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 And good point actually. I'd thought that most of the people taking in interest in Relius would be Carl players, that's my faulty logic at work there lol. I main Tager, and Relius doesn't look that bad to me. Mama looks like less of a pain to deal with and think about than Sister, since she kinda just positions herself automatically. She's basically just a big projectile that you don't always have available. That and Relius' Phantom of the Opera shtick is just delicious to me. He's the bombastic villain character I never knew I needed.
YukiBlue Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 1) Suggest Setups thread "RELIUS DUNT NEED SETUPS FUCK SAKE YUKI" 2) Compare 1 Puppet Character to another Puppet character "THERE NOTHING ALIKE FUCK SAKE YUKI"
Afro-Demon Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 (edited) That 8.5K with 150 meter looks more practical than the one with Val Tus. Trying to start a combo with Val Tus looks like trying to start combos with Carl 2C. If your opponent has a pulse it aint gonna happen. At least the 150 heat one starts from an anti air of sorts. As far as Relius goes I'll say this wall of text. He'll probably have around the same technical demand as Carl in the end because of the shadow mechanics, but because he's more RTSD and the doll has auto-movement he will almost be brain dead strategy-wise compared to Carl. Carls have to worry about set ups, positions of everything on the field, and hopefully getting that 4/6/41236 ]D[ so that he can start his pressure and mix up, and much more which I won't go into depth about. Relius' only matter is "do I have meter or not?" If so, RTSD time and pry an opening. If not, play some smart defense so you don't get hit/cornered. In the end, Relius will be a great RTSD character and most likely better and easier than Carl overall, but his poke game is rather dependant on doll to make it threatening and doesn't last as well as Carl's in that department. I see Relius' main problem down the road being block string mix ups. He's got ok oki , but after that his only really good overhead is his 6A. Doll overhead might be good later on but I don't know long Relius can keep pressure to make that into a good blockstring, and even if you can combo well off it. If so, however, then he may shoot straight to the top. He's really strong already and he still has a lot of un-tapped potential. Carl will most likely be his worst match up funny enough, because both dolls have projectile immune hitstun and the doll attacks are considered projectiles. I can already see the Duo Bios vs. RoM in my head. Mid screen battle hilarity is sure to ensue. However, Carl has better screen control with his puppet so it will be much easier for him to get into pressure, and with Led Ley being Relius' go to defensive measure in pressure, it won't be easy to get around Carl's high attack rate. Second worst I have no clue on, but zoning won't be too much of a problem once his meta game develops IF the above mention of projectiles don't even hurt her health is true. Hell, if that's true, Lambda's are dead because of him. He'd have an auto approach tool on her and he could blow her up easy with her "defense". Edited October 22, 2011 by Afro-Demon
BladeOfJustice7 Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 I too could tell that Carl will give him a hard time. When I saw a match between the two I could see relius had a hard time opening up his son. But once he did carl was pretty much dead, since relius hits harder than carl.
Toasty Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 I noticed that with Lambda too. It's not too easy for Relius to get in, but once he does, he's there to stay. Also Relius vs. Hakumen looks like it's going to be a real test of patience for both players. I'm liking how Val Tus is shaping up to be a strong tool for Oki. I've seen a lot of players using it after a knockdown so the third hit will catch after a neutral tech and allow Relius to get back to pressuring.

I could make waaaaaaaay too many sex puns about this entire quote, but for the sake of sanity, I'm not going to. I agree though, Relius vs. Carl looks like it's going to be very difficult for both characters, it seems to require a lot of thinking, planning, patients and overall momentum control, I look forward to the matchup.
