The New England Thread: Bears Warbling Outside My Igloo: A Polarizing Dilemma

So, there's an event page for that Persona tournament that I mentioned earlier. It'd be awesome if all of you who still play Persona or have played Persona at any one point could make it!

http://www.dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?15991-April-20th-2013-The-Good-the-Bad-the-New-Challengers-Stratford-CT

I will consider attending, but I make no promises. It's almost three hours straight-shot for me, which is kinda a lot for a game I'm still not particularly versed in. At least there's some time to give thought to it.

If someone says where's Guilty I swear to God...

There's really only one way to fix this. :v:

:roboky: Hey Cheese, doesn't this look familiar? AHAHAHAHA

Not really. His concept has all sorts of differences. Besides, there's tons of causailty issues in there that make it make less sense than my ideas (I think, anyways).

Time travel is confusing enough, anyway. Awesome concepts either way.

Yeah, really.

I would love to not have to ask, "Where is Guilty Gear?" But, y'know how it is...

:roboky: Jeremy, would you actually get upset about other people wanting a good fighting game to be featured more often, regardless of how old it is? I understand it's a fairly common response to almost any event posted, but what do you honestly expect?

I'm running TSB that weekend anyway if you want GG :P

(though unless you only play that, support your local events! By supporting them, you can hopefully make them add GG by creating enough demand).

BlueNine asks for a GG side-tournament every time at GamingETC, but there is never enough people. Persona isn't at this event because I asked really nicely. It's because sixteen people including myself demonstrated that there is a demand to play the game by entering an impromptu last-minute side tournament. I don't pretend to run this event, so I don't have the power to magically make GG appear on the roster. If you want GG, you have to show up first!

I-It's not like I w-want to run your side tournament anyway. Stupid!!

So my Spring Break went like usual.

A) I Reminded myself I need to get coursework and other shit done over break so that I'm not fucked when I get back.

B) I took a few days off to hang out with friends I hadn't seen in while, and unwind after the pre-spring break crunch

C) Hiki

D) Hiki

E) Told myself I really should get started on that take home exam. Didn't actually started.

F) Hiki

G) Hiki more

H) Go to drive back to school, my car breaks down, I get nothing productive done.

I) Actually drive back to school

J) Sadlife :vbang:

Edit- Oh, and if this is the manga I'm thinking of, "I don't want to pull it out!" Wahahahaha! So good.

Kind of a chicken-and-egg problem here*. You're asking people to show up at an event that doesn't have any guarantee (or even mention) of a game they play, giving only an ambiguous and completely unofficial "we might have it maybe". Meanwhile from the other side of course there's the whole "nobody's showing up so why bother?" angle from the venue. Side-tournaments might help, but if something's not organized and made known beforehand it's not going to draw in the people, unfortunately.

Now, if we can organize, in-advance, that we're going to put together a GG side-tourney, and we can get enough people on-board to show numbers, then this stalemate might be broken. But as-is, people see "Hey guys here's a neato P4A tourney come play P4A" and not being huge on P4A go "Where's Guilty?" and leave the thread. (Also doesn't help that half the games there are Capcom, and KoF is the only other remotely-anime FTG in the list, but that's another story).

If we want to get GG as a side-tourny or whatever I'm almost certain to be there (dammit how low has it been since the last ACT or whatever GG tournament in CT?), but if you're just going to give a huge ambiguous "possibly" it's not really going to convince people to show, especially not in number actually needed to change the status quo.

*

Ignore for the moment that science has solved that little mystery.

EDIT: Is anyone hosting a meetup this week?

I suppose I should have clarified that side-tournaments don't have anything to do with what's on "the roster." But I already said that if you want Guilty, you need to show up! There's nothing ambiguous about that statement. I'll personally run a side-tournament if there is enough people (meaning, 6 or more).

I haven't been to a tournament since November, so if everyone's planning to go to this I think I might want to as well.

Unfortunately, your initial post really didn't do anything to convey this. In fact, with the spoiler tag'd part, it almost seemed like you were against what you're saying now. Like I said in my previous post, if we're serious about getting a GG side-tourney at the event I'll very likely attend as well. Assuming BlueNine, you, and me - 3 already. I don't know who else has been at these events, but I doubt it'd be hard to find a few more for GG. I wouldn't bet on Katz/Tales/Vyers attending necessarily, but there's that possibility.

Also, it might just be me not paying attention, but this is the first I've been made aware of attempts to have a GG tournament at that location; all I remember hearing about previously is other games (this is the part where everyone points out that I missed a million obvious things and I'm oblivious :v:).

I know there was the one time where LPT wanted me to go to GU for a possible GG side-tourney at a P4A event, but I had already set up plans with Tales for X9 (plus, I wasn't playing P4A again/yet at that point, so it felt like there was a chance of having no games I would be playing).

I just started picking up GG again and trying to get better so you can count me as 4 (though, i'm kinda holding back a bit since i'm waiting for the patch as well).

However, I already brought it up to Walter about a possible side tournament for GG in the Facebook page for the upcoming event and he said no can do since the turn out is expected to be larger than last time and possibly more than the first one this year so FOR NOW, it does not seem possible. But if we show large numbers for GG casuals and bring it up next time with a good dedicated amount of people, then it can be considered for a side tournament in the future. Until then, we gotta get people going. Plus, the number of people who attend casuals for a certain game counts as well (Every Tuesday and Sundays at ETC) and helps very much. Sadly, i'm being held back from going to casuals due to me taking night classes this semester on the same exact days. :(

I'm playing P4U and MK at the tournament, but after they are done, i'll be down for some games with whoever is there.

@RainbowMash Please pick up EX Kyo! The character is too good.

@JacopeX I look forward to playing you! I didn't get to play you enough last time because we were getting rocked by lesser Teddie's mashing 2B

@Cheese In regards to GG, Jacope hit a very important point in that attendance plays a huge factor at these events. Since there are only a limited number of setups and a large amount of people, the amount of setups that can go towards yet another tournament on top of the five major games that are already being run are scarce. However, having a setup for casuals is most certainly encouraged, especially if you bring your own. That's how Persona got to be in the main lineup. Certain reoccurring characters you might know came to the tournament when Persona wasn't being hosted and just simply played casuals. While this might seem like a waste of time to some, this act adequately demonstrated that there were people willing to travel to play their game, and that's the kind of reassurance that this TO in particular needed in order to allot his limited resources towards running a P4A tournament. If you just make the initial effort to convey your interest in playing GG at this venue, I can definitely see "official" side-tournaments happening in the future.

Edit- Oh, and if this is the manga I'm thinking of, "I don't want to pull it out!" Wahahahaha! So good.

I'm curious about which manga you're thinking of. Send me a link?

@ That CT tourney discussion: I guess what it boils down to is are people willing to travel out to a tournament to play games that aren't in said tournament as opposed to just doing casuals? I'd be up for it if there will be space to set up a GG or VS or CC or something I'd like to play, but if we don't know if there will be space. . . well, I'd feel really weird just standing around twidling my thumbs as I attempt to make conversation with people in an environment where I can't hear anything.

If people want to come out to this in force in place of/ before casuals I'll be up for joining. Assuming finals courseload isn't murdering my at that time.

@Mash: don't play any Kyo. Kyo is a super lame, boring, lazy, fake main-usurper, whom Terry leaves alive as a joke:mad: (It's pretty damn pathetic when the 4+ characters based on him are all cooler than he could ever hope to be)

FFS, they ran a $1 KOF98 side tournament later in the day since there were a lot of KOF heads there and I guess the tournament for KOFXIII ended earlier than expected. I don't see why they can't do the same for us. lol XD Yeah, we got pretty lucky that the TO for DOA didn't show up that day and we got a chance to replace it with P4A with an extra monitor set up brought by Jeremy and most importantly a decent amount of people who were willing to join. I don't think we'll be seeing DOA ever again though. Seeing Bluenine and other people playing GG actually encouraged me to pick this game up again tbh since now theres actual opponents for me in this game. I'll be there for GG casuals, even though i'm rusty as fuck.

@Mindgam3 I don't think I played you yet or I might have before but i'm pretty sure I did not get to play you last time. I'll look forward to it. I'll will try to bring about two or three people for Persona and i'm sure they would love to check out CC and VS if anyone brings it. As always, i'll bring my console again. Wish I had an asus to bring though.

If people are worried about setups, I'll be totally cool with bringing my PS3 for GG, VS, etc. as well as my monitor. Others should bring setups too! In order for this to happen we have to MAKE it happen.

@Mindgame: I was actually practicing EX Kyo! If that's who you recommend I'll definitely practice him more. Any other suggestions?

Wish I could show up for these, but full-time employment plus how far it is from me kinda kills that idea.

I'm not disagreeing with this, but at the same time like Vyers says it's hard to justify attending an event where nothing you're interested in is featured. If people can coordinate an effort for casuals or such, a bunch of the "hurdle" is overcome right there. The problem then just boils down to communicating things - your initial post seemed to hold disdain at the idea of bringing Guilty in, whereas you're actually for it (goddamn tsundere). Of course, not saying it's all your fault - nobody else seemed to think of asking "hey how about getting Guilty in there somehow, even as just casuals?" and instead just assumed it wouldn't work.

Regarding this event in particular, I'm considering going anyways because I do (somewhat) play P4A, and it'd be a good opportunity to lose miserably get matchup experience and quit the game again get better. Still undecided, but if we can organize some GG casuals there it'd certainly help.

Planning on picking up KOF13 after EVO.

After watching all these highlight videos of this game and following the game through several streams for the past several months, I just have to make time for it. I'm just worried Injustice will be so good, that it will delay BB some more for me. I keep delaying BB for other games since I still can't find any tournaments (not majors) hosting BB within reasonable transportation distance. :(

Sadly, there are more tournaments around here for a game that has not even been released yet than BB. Only one I found was tournies from St1ckBug. Unfortunate but True Story.

Ehhhhhh, I'm not expecting Injustice to be good. Fun? Probably. Not good, though. Also, fuck paid DLC characters.
