Xrd has a 100 pot bonus just saying Thanks for linking that Synyster! So far myself, Noisetank, blueNINE, and Sam V. are confirmed to go. Tales wants to, but he's looking for a ride. Gavin might also be going. I imagine there are more GU regulars planning to attend. This tournament snuck up on me cause it was announced in a facebook page of all things.
Dreiko Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 I'm back in this neck of the woods again so I may be able to join up for this. I don't have my game stuff yet and the movers won't have it here by that date but I did bring my pad so I should be able to play. I will see who is and isn't going and where my location will be around the time of that event (currently I'm in Hamden but it's projected that I'll be in Naughetuck by that time this happens, not sure which one of the ride-givers is within ride-giving-distance and whatnot though) and hopefully I can join up.
Dreiko Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Well I'm in the process of moving at the moment so it's not too stable but right now I'm in Hamden and in a few days I should be in Naughetuck as I said, now nothing of this is 100% certain for now since I'm still looking for homes but by the time of the tourney it should have become solidified hopefully. Right now I'm just staying at an Inn while it is sorted out lol.

Unfortunately Word for that GU Boston tourney didn't get out until late, so not many people are confirmed to be going at the moment. I'm not sure who's driving in from the Connecticut area. Hope you find a ride man. I'll be at GU (Their regular Framingham location) next Friday fight night. It's been awhile since I've had the opportunity to travel beyond Boston so I hope to see some old faces there.
Dreiko Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Haha, I don't even know where that location even is or any of the specifics. It's gonna be very snowy and stuff so I don't think I can make it this week. Hopefully something will be sorted out for the Boston one though.
Vyers Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 It looks like it's going to snow the day before and after, but not this Friday. If you're worried about snow on the road it might be an issue, but if your main concern is driving through snowstorms I think you're in the clear. Game Underground's address is: 1251 Worcester Rd, Framingham, MA 01701 I hear that they usually play from about 7:00pm-2:00AM They have a website here: http://www.game-underground.com/ But they mostly post event information on their facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/GameUnderground/info?tab=overview
Dreiko Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Yeah as suspected that's 2.5 hours away sadly. Won't be making it there this week. Hopefully something can be sorted out for the big one next Saturday.
JacopeX Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Resistance 4 still hasnt been announced. In brighter news, I have a license now, so I can feel more confident driving my car to tournies...too bad college has been bodying me. >.> But i'm determined to get my xrd game up, no problem. :p

Perhaps you could make it out to GU fightnights once in a while, or the tourney and music festival in Boston on Sunday the 15th.
Dreiko Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 No I mean the music festival thingy, I thought it was on a Saturday not on a Sunday for who knows what reason lol
Dreiko Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 House-searching has been fruitful so I might just make it to this Friday's event after all if it doesn't snow too much more today . It'll be a long drive but I may make a day out of it. I checked the links you provided above but I saw no mention of the systems (or of a Friday event at all for that matter, or of a venue fee) so I figured I should ask. I can only play with my ps3 pad so if they have ps4s I'd be unable to play Xrd at all. Also, while the fee isn't an issue, I'd like to know if there is one so I won't just sit down and play without paying first, that'd be a terrible first impression XD.

Im closer to NYC than up north, so I just go to TSB tournies. I would like to go up there soon though.

Another place to check for info is the MFC (Massachusetts Fighting Game Community) facebook group. https://www.facebook.com/groups/xmfcx/ Most of the GU regulars talk here. Not sure if you need to be a member of the group to see the posts though. If it turns out you need an invite to get access, let me know and I can hook you up. I passed your questions onto the GU regulars: Xrd's played on PS3; it looks like we'll have three or four setups for tomorrow. The venue fee is $5 They usually run a small tournament for Xrd. The entry fee for that is also $5, but I'm not sure what the payout or format is. Maybe someday. Im closer to NYC than up north, so I just go to TSB tournies. I would like to go up there soon though. And it would be good to have you, the more the merrier man. It's cool that you're close to NY though; they got a good scene up there. Lots of strong players like A3Religion, Mynus, Zidane, XAQshinor, Alzarath, etc.
Synyster17 Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Stuff yeah you need an invite to get in. idk how that works but my page is right here. https://www.facebook.com/nicholas.oliver.90813 in case you need this.
Vyers Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 Yo, good games to Cosby, Josh, Jacob, Gavin, Super J, Alex Smith, Mindgam3, Fraga and everyone else I played at GU tonight. Justo, good to see you again man. I've got a lot to practice, but I'll level up my Elphelt for the next time I make it down. Hope to see some of you folks at the GU Video Game & Music Festival on the 15th. Mindgam3, thanks for the Elphelt advice for the Sin matchup and in general. I wasn't able to apply it well last night (which is pretty typical for me; it usually takes me a while to learn and practice new tactics before I can execute them), but you gave me a to work on.
Lelouch84 Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 Anyone feel like getting a group together to play some games (I play mostly BlazBlue and UNIEL but we can play everything). Synyster and I are looking for people to practice with, and maybe compete with. Also, I don't know if there's any streaming for the NE region but I think it would be fun to get that going. Anyone interested please contact me through pm or reply here. Thanks guys.
Azriel Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Hello, this Sunday we're having Sunday Showdown here in Rhode Island. This is one of our biggest introductory fighting game events if you never been to the venue but you're interested in coming well this sunday is the best time. There's a 5$ venue fee after that you are welcome to play any game you want throughout the day. If there's a lot of interest at a certain fighting game we will set up a tournament. Personally I would love some anime fighters to show up so we can have an anime tournament but we play almost any fighting game. Such as; Smash4 (with project M), Tekkan, Dead or Alive 5, King of fighters, SC5, Injustice, Ultimate Street fighter 4 , Blazblue, Persona, Guilty Gear Xrd ect ect. In addition to that we also have shooters set up if anyone is interested A little bit about the venue; it is located at the boarder of Pawtucket RI right next to Attleboro. It's a pretty nice restaurant with verizon fios internet access. We have a lot of board games as well for those that are interested. Food is cheap and in large portions and there's a bar on site as well for all you "of age" people; : P If you're interested in attending please click the link below We have MA players come down all the time, if you haven't heard about us, you should check us out we're pretty awesome!. https://www.facebook.com/events/1604104239818547/1604348206460817/?comment_id=1604382106457427¬if_t=event_mall_reply

Lelouch84 Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 It seems like GU mostly plays Guilty Gear for anime fighters which is not all that attractive to me. I don't play Guilty Gear much and I don't want to play it competitively. Is it just me or does there not seem to be much going on in NE for fighting games?
Vyers Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 the NE scene has always been smaller than most regions. The Capcom playerbase has persisted through the dark ages, but most players of 3rd strike, CVS2, MVC2, ST players, etc, moved onto SFIV, which many play exclusively. Tekken has a smaller presence, which has always been kind of removed from everything else (as a result of that and not being really into 3D-fighters I know little about it besides that it's around). Guilty Gear has had a small but persistent group since at least the era of Reload. For other games: MK was usually pretty dead (although it flared up for a few months when 9 came out) and KoF similarly never had much of a presence (although there was some interest once 13 came out). HNK was played mainly for laughs at the games ridiculous infinites and manly character designs. Back before the 2009 revival, Melty Blood had it's own tiny but hardcore scene. After SFIV and BBCT came out, a lot of Melty Blood Players swapped to BBCT; BBCT also brought in a lot of new players of its own. From this point, there was a Blitz of new games that the BBCT player base rapidly swapped through, Arcana Heart 1-3, BBCS/CP, Persona 4 Arena, Aquapazza, Chaos Code, UNIEL, etc. So in summary, the only games that seem to have had a persistent NE player base over the last 10 years or so are Guilty Gear, Street Fighter IV, and Tekken. Other players tend to pick up and drop new games within the matter of a year or two as newer games or newer versions of games they played previously draw their interest away from what they're currently playing. It's also worth mentioning that in regards to NE fighing game players and events (especially non-capcom players/events), the majority are found within western Mass and Connecticut. Outside of that, there's a few players in Boston, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire.

It's a combination of being really far from California, far enough from New York, and not enough Asian/Black dudes lol.
Lelouch84 Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 @Vyers: who are the notable western mass and CT players? I live in western mass when I'm not in school and Connecticut is an easy drive for me.
