Padfoot Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 I just got this game last week and I've been spending some time in training mode to get used to the combos and I wondered what the game rules are about juggling. I'm practicing with Yu and I find that if I do a certain long combo then the other guy will recover before I can juggle even if I'm in the same position I would be if I did a shorter one (and would be able to follow up). Other times I'll be doing a juggle where 214C looks like it should be able to hit but it doesn't or if I do a really short juggle where 214D mysteriously hits in midair. I'm almost sure my timing is consistent with the links in different combos but the results aren't. I was wondering if someone could explain the "rules" for when stuff stops working in a juggle or link me to some page. Thanks for any assistance!
Circuitous Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 P4A uses hitstun decay to determine how long a combo can be continued. Every move has a certain amount of hitstun [the time during which you can follow-up with another attack and it will count as a combo], and as the combo gets longer and more moves are tacked on, the hitstun of a given move becomes less and less. If you start a combo with a fatal counter, hitstun decay isn't as strong, so you'll be able to continue combos for longer. There's a gauge under the combo counter that shows the remaining hitstun on an attack, you can use it while you work on your combos to gauge how soon you should go for an ender, versus trying to carry it on any longer. You can also use this as a launching point to begin optimizing your combo, trying to get in better damage within that limit.
Padfoot Posted August 16, 2012 Author Posted August 16, 2012 I thought there might be a timer, but I'd seen some really long combos where the finishers still work (because of fatal counter I suppose). Thanks so much.
