Spoonman Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Updated my post in the news thread with more ASW tweets regarding Xrd's console release. The image quality setting intrigues me. Point 12 made me cancel my Jp PS3 preorder. I thought the game was supposed to be the arcade version on PS3 (720p) and 1080p on PS4. This looks like it might be a bad port, instead. I guess I will have to hope for new information about PS3 version, possibly from some of you getting it or Japanese players testing it. Looks like I'm going to have to get the US version then.
Dreiko Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 That tweet is highly ambiguous. "Speed" is too imprecise. A responder on twitter even was asking them to clarify if they mean loading times or what.

There's no reason to panic just yet. Like Dreiko pointed out, it might have something to do with load times. Whatever it is, it won't break the game's functionality, that would be borderline absurd. Also, we have account of people playing the PS3 version at TGS, claiming it plays just as good as the arcade one. We don't know which setting it had, but it's rather reasonable to assume it was the "speed" one, considering no framerate complaints.
entnervt Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 And again, people which played the PS3 version at TGS and people watching them haven't noticed any difference between arcade/PS3. That's more than enough confirmation for me to buy the PS3 version. Edit: damn, I've been ninja'd.
Chev Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Personally going from the description I think anti-aliasing would be the most likely culprit rather than load times, because it is a really easy thing to toggle and one that may have some impact on speed on PS3, but it isn't very clear at all.
LockedAndClush Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Whatever it is, it's really safe to assume it's more directed towards casual players that prefer better graphics over high framerate. Or maybe they want to include a video rendering feature, kinda like Ultra Street Fighter IV had, and it's only on PS3, because PS4 has the SHARE button? Hell, we can guess, but still, it won't gimp the gameplay. They'd be a bunch of liar assholes, and ASW is a lot of things, but not liars (lately).
Zedar90 Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Image quality: Same as the Arcade in image quality Speed: 60 fps. The speed option removes some Mobs from the background. The image mode have almost no effect on game play. https://twitter.com/Yamanaka_ARC/status/537585466409631745
LockedAndClush Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 So it seems they're not 100% confident that the PS3 can handle the exact same stuff as the arcade and removed some superficial stuff. Lot of fuss over nothing, at least we do get the game and assured 60FPS whenever. The only part that leaves me curious is how (according to Google Translate of course) he claims that even in image quality setting, the game usually works fine.
TeeJay Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 I'm thinking there may be a questionable stage or two......or it could be other modes with the in-game engine stuff. But they said 60 fps so it could just be load times and rather people wanna wait or not. I can see a speed option being the tourney standard just for convenience. We'll see.

I remember reading an article which said that they struggled to port the ps3 version so no surprise here really. Good thing I'm getting the glorious PS4 version.
Antaiseito Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 I remember reading an article which said that they struggled to port the ps3 version so no surprise here really. Source? People are panicking already anyway... Maybe it's still only speed in loadtimes for the additional models. As entnervt said, i'm also still getting the PS3 version, no fear.
LockedAndClush Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 There was acutally talk that the PS3 version was harder to port, from an interview with Ishiwatari if I recall corectly. It sounds like a case of "if you pick this stage and these characters and launch these two ODs at the same time the game drops to 40FPS", which is really nothing to worry about, and if it disturbs you, just set it to "speed". My guess is that people who didn't play the game in the arcades or on the "quality" setting/PS4 version wouldn't even notice anything missing.
Ziggy_Stardust Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Eh, I can't see Arc putting out anything other than a quality product. Frame rate drops at certain strenuous movements is nothing to freak about.
TITANIUM BEAST!!! Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 They are probably trying to avoid the various issues Capcom had with cross platform ports of their games. PS3 versions of UMvC3 having unacceptable slowdown on certain stages and the like. Knowing that the tournament community will most likely use the PS3 version of the game as their go-to version, they may have included the image quality option to ensure no problems or complaints for competition.
Antaiseito Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 If that's the case i would almost expect them to set online default to "speed" anyway, but let's see ^_^ Preordering as soon as i get my japanese money. Edit: Also it's not new that it's difficult to port to PS3... question is if you succeed in the end. Edit2: lol, it seems i accidentaly liked my own post and can't unlike *cough* xD
LockedAndClush Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 All we get out of this situation in the end is that we can be sure that with the PS3 version Arc wants to deliver a quality product, despite the limitations. ...so if I see another "PS3 30FPS" post, I'm gonna lose hope.
White Man Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 They probably just want to avoid another Snow Town situation where an especially complex stage causes minimal slowdown in very specific situations and everybody absolutely loses their shit over it as if the screen froze and black smoke started pouring out of their console.
Circuitous Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Thanks for posting the clarification tweet, I missed it myself. Everybody can calm the fuck down about the PS3 version again.
LockedAndClush Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 I don't know if I missed it or it went unnoticed, but here's a great tweet:https://twitter.com/Yamanaka_ARC/status/537417494902755328 Also, this reply:https://twitter.com/Yamanaka_ARC/status/537427399311253504 Assuming they release this patch any time soon after the US release, there might be no more reason to buy both of them. That's great news.
Circuitous Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Other than the LE contents and supporting localized releases. (Hint, hint.)
Antaiseito Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 supporting localized releases. (Hint, hint.) ^ EU? :P
LockedAndClush Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Other than the LE contents and supporting localized releases. (Hint, hint.) Well, since I'm a poor European peasant and buy games digitaly, that's hardly convincing. Still, I'm likely getting both versions EDIT Now I got ninja'd.
GundamSFS Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 ASW is the man, we have 100% confirmation for dual audio at last (even text too)
