Superslash2 Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 What is a frame trap? Is it a step lower than an unblockable - requires frame-by-frame blocking?
sogos Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 A frame trap is usually when you throw out a move that gives you some sort of advantage followed by another move that is uninteruptable. They're mostly used to fish for some big juicy CH, or to train them to block/get out of the trap setting them up for throws, mixups, etc.

Superslash2 Posted August 8, 2008 Author Posted August 8, 2008 I'm sorry but I don't see the difference between this and any normal blockstring or combo. Don't they all work like that?
Chomite Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 I'm sorry but I don't see the difference between this and any normal blockstring or combo. Don't they all work like that? Some block strings (or normals) leaves you with frame disadvantage (in -). That's why usually after a blockstring, there isn't much option for you but wait for opponents to make his move and react against it (whether would it be guard, jump whatever). For example, May's c.HS gives May +7 frame advantage on guard (damn @_@). So, when opponent throws something out to beat her or get out of the pressure by backdash or jump, he can't since May's next move will come out much faster. I don't know what you mean by combo. I think that you are mistaken. I would point you right to the guide section of dustloop. It states that: Frame Trap: A specific type of mixup that involves leaving a small gap in your attack string to bait an attempt to escape.
CrimsonDisaster Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 I'm sorry but I don't see the difference between this and any normal blockstring or combo. Don't they all work like that? A frame trap is when you intentionally leave a tiny gap that gives your opponent enough time to leave blockstun and start a move, but get hit if they tried to do that. The idea isn't necessarily to keep them in your block string but to get them to fidget and eat a counter-hit into combo, the mixup being that if they don't mash to escape pressure/mixup you might just waltz back into point-blank range and continue pressure (or throw them). It's nothing fancy, really. It's just a modified blockstring, though pretty much everybody adds frame traps into their blockstrings these days anyhow since there isn't really a reason not to.
