Azure Grimoire Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 I need help finding the right character for myself. I've already tried all of the characters but can't seem to find the right one to main so... Which character would fit my playstyle? I like characters that are fast moving / fast attacking and have a rushdown / pressure gameplay. I don't want to play as a zoning character because I've played most of them to the point where it bores me so please, don't suggest a zoning character. I want something new. I don't really care about character difficulty. As for damage, it has to be decent. Are there any character(s) that meet my expectations? Thanks in advance!
Celerity Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 You've just described about 80% of the characters in the cast. Every character in the game benefits from a more aggressive gameplay style. Ragna, Tsubaki, Makoto, Valkenhayn, Noel, Bullet, Terumi all fit into what I would say is the "traditional" rushdown mold, and then there are less conventional characters who still have very scary pressure such as Litchi, Izayoi, Rachel, Taokaka, Kokonoe, etc. I think you should be more specific in what you're looking for: Do you want really strong mixups? callouts? frametraps? Do you want to be always working to get in, or controlling space and waiting for an opportunity? Do you want good oki options? A good reversal? Do you want to be reliant on setups or charges to increase your potential? Stuff like that.

I also don't know what callouts, frametraps, or oki are, sorry. I want to be reliant on charges, if that helps. Edit: I changed my mind. I'm okay with set-ups. By the way, what's a reversal? Edit#2: Wait, did you say Kokonoe? How do I get her? I've always liked Kokonoe! DX Edited December 11, 2013 by Azure Grimoire

I've always liked Kokonoe! DX Callouts are when you counter a move with one of your own before your opponent even starts it. Means you predict them and punish them for their predictability. Tager's Backdash can be used to call out when a Ragna tries Inferno divider at close range, for example. Frametraps are deliberate holes you leave in your attacks when you're beating on their blocks, inviting them to mash 5A (or similar). When they do, they get a CH because your move still went active earlier due to your careful timing. This is opposed to when you have an airtight blockstring, where your moves are so close together your opponent never recovers from blocking to start a move until you've finished. Okizeme refers to how well you can maintain your advantage after scoring a combo on your opponent, typically through limiting what options they have as they stand up after you knock them down. This is a typical mainstay of rushdown characters. Reversals are like the aforementioned Dragon punch, some moves are invulnerable from the first frame of start up to (at least) the first active frame, meaning that they will beat out just about any move (They're an effective counter to the frametrap trick). Problem is, most reversals have horrible recovery times if they miss, so if you get called on your reversal (Like that backdash example) expect to get punished badly for it. Examples are Ragna's inferno divider (623C), Tager's Emerald Tager Buster (720C) and Litchi's Tsubamigaishi (623C). Most characters have at least one, even if it's only in the form of a distortion drive.
swordsman09 Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 What do you mean by charges exactly? There are multiple meanings here.
MotokoChill Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 ^Kagura is an example of a charge character. okizeme is also hitting a character when they're down.. OP, I recommend you do some more research on this site and learn all of the characters.

I'm still deciding what character suits me best, though. I'm starting to lean towards maining Kokonoe. Either that or I'm just going through a phase. .__. I have a tendacy to main a character for a while but then start to lose interest... I'm not sure. Where can I find information on Kokonoe? I'd appreciate it if someone can give me informative pros and cons about her. I'm still new to this site so I'm not sure if my question should be asked in this thread or not. :/ Thanks in advance!
Celerity Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 In this context, charge would mean a resource that makes your character stronger. If you want a heavy mixup character who's reliant on charges, then you're my best friend because that applies to the two characters in my sig. I don't recommend Rachel for a new player, however, since she's highly technical. Izayoi is an alright choice; you'll have to work as a gimped character for awhile to build your charges, but your mixup in GA mode is pretty strong and easy to execute. There's also Tsubaki and Bullet whose mixup is not that great, but they are both very beginner-friendly momentum characters. Kokonoe is DLC, you can download her for 800 yen. Also not a bad choice for what you're looking for IMO. Like Rachel, she has zoning tools, but they're just an excuse for her to get in and be aggressive. Edit: Find info on the Dustloop wiki or in the character threads.

My old main was Lambda 11 / Nu 13 but I got bored after a few months and that's when I picked up Rachel. Edit: Oh, thanks for telling me. I'm going to buy Kokonoe this week. ... nstalkie Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Tsubaki is also a character with a rushdown style that keeps charges.
Azure Grimoire Posted December 12, 2013 Author Posted December 12, 2013 Tsubaki is also a character with a rushdown style that keeps charges. I guess I made a mistake thinking charge was the same thing as rushdown. e.e Sorry guys! DX Charge isn't what I'm looking for. .__.
swordsman09 Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Oh so THAT'S what you meant by charge. Well the easiest rushdown characters in this game are Jin and Ragna so maybe start there.

Celerity Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 She isn't good, but it really isn't going to matter while you're learning. You'll have more success with her early on due to how easy she is to play. Besides, every character in the game is competitive, you don't really have to worry about your character holding you back.
