LordSpectreX Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 You guys should just lower the funding required a bit and just make the Valkenhayn video a link to all of Kiba's Guides and Videos instead.
tataki Posted April 5, 2014 Author Posted April 5, 2014 Is there anyway to help out aside from monetary contributions or being a current expert in something? Read our work process in the campaign FAQ. The main time sinks are creating scenarios and recording them via an HD capture device, and video editing. Our offer still stands even if the campaign fails: Edit: If people show up and commit to making 26 character guides, we are closing the campaign. Tuka says he'll be giving you all the assets he made in photoshop for BlazBits, and I'll make an appealing opening sequence to the best of my ability. I haven't spoken to specs but maybe he'll be willing to narrate if you'd like him to. You want it free? We'll do our equal part and do it in the best way possible. Now the ball is in your court.
BAKABaiken Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 As a newbie to this whole competitive fighting game world, I found Guilty Bits did a good job raising my curiosity and getting me interested in playing the game in general. I'd heard of Guilty Gear before, but when I saw the trailer for Xrd I was immediately enthralled. So I quickly started searching for more information on the series and found Guilty Bits. Like I said, it did a great job of increasing my already growing interest in the game, but I honestly didn't really learn that much. Maybe that's because the series isn't neccesarily intended for novices like me who do not really understand things like spacing and defense in fighting games, and is more directed at existing players coming from other games. Overall, I think White is absolutely correct in his sentiment that the series comes off as far more "edutainment" than legitimate training guides. It's not to say I didn't enjoy them, I watched them all despite really only being interested in one character, because I found the production and commentary so entertaining, but it basically just gave me a very baseline understanding of all the charracters in PLUS R. I'm not particularly interested in BlazBlue, but with the lack of a good online community due to the bad netcode for GG, I had considered giving it a shot in hopes that I could carry over experience their to Xrd. When I heard about Blazbits I was immediately excited...until I saw the goal. It's really nothing against the Chemical Lovers team; like I said I'm a big fan of Guilty Bits for what it is, but I just didn't see the justification -- based on that series -- in the 9K goal. I assumed when it went live that it would likely not meet it's goal, which is very, very disappointing to say the least, because the potential for an Xrd version Guilty Bits was what I was most excited about, but the stretch goals for it were even more outrageously presumptious. I honestly hope that the community can figure it out and get both BlazBits and Guilty Bits Xrd out for public consumption, because the original series is fantastic and I think any new players like me who want to learn airdashers -- thanks to new games like CP and Xrd -- would really benefit from them, be it from simply striking their interest, or actually teaching them in-depth gameplay mechanics. Also, I want to shoutout Klaige, because his video series IAD-TV is really, really informative and concise. If there are any other new GG players out there, I would highly reccomend giving his stuff a watch. There hasn't been anything new for awhile, but what he does have up on YouTube is hours worth of useful information.
tataki Posted April 5, 2014 Author Posted April 5, 2014 @BAKABaiken If you are going to judge "the justification" with a rate of how much information you cover for the hours spent to make it, then the "best" format is a simple text guide. (Which people should be writing and posting on DL regardless, if they aren't already) But that is a narrow way to look at things, because you ignore the 3rd factor of "allurement". In simple words- It's hard to get new people interested to begin with using text, or with a raw stream from your room. Let's be clear- The IADTV stuff is good, but if only you add that allurement factor, the same exact content can attract, and teach, a much bigger crowd. So if your only goal is to put information out there, write a text guide or use a cheaper video format. But if the goal is to get new people interested in the game at its higher levels and get more people in the scene, the pricy format does it best, and the exposure it has gotten so far proves it. If you have a way to get the same effect on new people without that much hard work, by all means I'm interested in hearing it. If the IGG fails we'll be moving on to other, smaller projects, and to try some more revolutionary ideas we have. We don't really lose that much by "testing the market" anyway.
TheGreatLeon19 Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Can I just say that as a player who has been playing BB and GG for a while but who is not particularly good at either, Airdash Academy has been proving useful, especially the 2 most recent episodes, and I didn't hate the first episode, although it couldve been done better. Guilty Bits was useful, and I'm very excited for Blazbits if by some miracle it happens at this point. Reading through forums just doesn't work too well for me. But really, I don't see why you have to pay the experts so much when they would do it for so much cheaper, if not free. People here are generally nice. Also, an idea that I think might be useful is, after each video is released and everyone has taken their turn pointing out any errors if there are any, release a mini-video going over the errors or crucial missed points. Nothing flashy, just read the comments, find what's valid, type a quick not-too-elaborate script, record the voice and gameplay, and post it. Shouldn't take too long or be too expensive, and it'd be an easy-ish method of quality control.
tataki Posted April 15, 2014 Author Posted April 15, 2014 So it seems that it won't happen after all. But we are still open to hearing about alternative ways that are more practical, if anyone has any.
dive-slam Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Last night, I had a dream that you guys somehow got up to $8.9k. Really sorry it didn't happen! :P
mAc Chaos Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 If you're going to post, make it constructive. In fact this thread kind of served it's purpose so unless there's some reason someone thinks it needs to stay open I might as well close it.Oh, and that was not for Poultrygeist; someone else was popping off but their posts have been deleted.
