  1. To everyone who isn't Cheese, Tales, Jian, Cecil, and Anderson, what the hell were you doing that's so important? Jesus, it was more deserted than poverty night during AB. Because of you all, I was forced to learn Inuyasha.
  2. Pads are pretty terrible for GG. At least mine was.
  3. If there is a BBCS tourney or if anyone's willing to have me on their GG team, I'll come. Otherwise, I'll pass.
  4. I used to think that Tales was the only person worse than me at the 2d fighters we play. Then I actually pick up GG again and practice and he wipes the floor with me. Sigh. *Sheepishly goes back to playing games no one else likes*
  5. Hmm, maybe I should start learning how to defend myself from other chars, as that seems to be what kills me. If I wasn't preoccupied with work and Tekken combos I'd be all over the Jam forum, but for now, I'll have to make do. Zappa's pretty hard to learn, isn't he? He's like the Carl of GG. Sweet av, Tales.
  6. Are there no more Jam players that can help me out a bit? Or should I just go back to being the best/only Tekken player in Vernon?
  7. My question is not if you would play it, but if you would prefer it. If immersiveness is what the people want, then I want to confirm that the combat and management don't matter. But whatever, fuck it, this discussion isn't going anywhere, so I know when to quit and change the subject.
  8. DW has leveling up, skill changing, etc as well. GoW doesn't have potions or spaceships you have to build. Good lord, it's a simple question I wanted answered!
  9. That's an Action RPG. It still has the menus and management bull. I'm talking like a DMC/GoW game with "immersiveness."
  10. I don't know how wRPGs differ, so sure, jRPGs. Again, if it's an Action RPG or Strat game, I have no problem. It's the combat and management systems that I find to be the epitome of all things pointlessly boring. Why tell the guy to attack or use magic instead of taking control and actually attacking? I'll propose my question again: if a game were to be made that was just as immersive as an RPG (jRPG, whatever), but utilized DW style combat mechanics, would you play it instead of an RPG?
  11. That's all well and good, but why does it have to be an RPG? IIRC, Fallout 3 was like this but it was more of a shooter with some RPG elements- it wasn't all random battles and clicking attack. That feels more like your telling the character what to do instead of playing as him through his own eyes. Like I said, if Dynasty Warriors had the story/deep characters/immersiveness of an RPG, would you play that instead? Sorry if I'm talking about this too much, but this has been on my mind for the past year and a half.
  12. NO! I HAVE TO KNOW WHY I'M THE ONLY ONE THAT DOESN'T GET IT! I HAVE TO KNOW WHY I'M WRONG! I HAVE TO PROVE MY POINT! GODDAMMIT WHY ARE RPGS SO GOOD? FUCK! Oh, and how was your day, man?
  13. Well, my point is, if RPGs are just there for story, why do you need to PLAY an RPG to get a good story? Why not watch the cutscenes on youtube and save money and time? Again, why not relax and watch a damn movie? If the story matters more than the game itself, why bother playing the game? As for the story stereotype, I guess I'm mostly basing it on Final Fantasy, and a few others like Shining Force, so sure, I might be misinformed. I own FFX and when I played it years ago, it took way too damn long to get nowhere in the storyline, so that throws the argument of "enjoying the ride" out the window for me. Is a good story worth waiting through five hours of bullshit? And I have nothing against action RPGs (assuming they're done right, but either way I still don't really like them) or strategy games, Risk and Stratego are always fun, but why is a story so damn necessary? Would you still give a shit if they didn't have stories? Gain Ground and Herzog Zwei were excellent strategy games back in the day when games mattered, and they had no story. One more thing, if games like Dynasty Warriors had RPG like stories, would you forget all about RPGs and start playing DW-esque games instead? I mean, yeah, to each his own, but... I just can't conceive of why people like these games. They're just so damn slow, and the "good story" is just a bullshit excuse to me.
  14. Okay, so since major points in an argument come to me long after the argument is over, I want to continue my rant on why RPGs suck. Most of what I'm hearing is that you play it solely for the story. I just don't get this. Stories, like graphics or music, don't justify calling a game good. If Shaq Fu or SF the Movie the Game had a good story, that wouldn't change the fact that it's a bad game. If you want a great story, uh, read a great story. Sit back and watch a movie or a TV show without having to sort through items and manage them like you're being paid to do it. I guarantee that you'll find more excitement in watching Memento or Lost than watching Cloud Strife save the world from the eeevil forces of Sephiroth. That brings me to another point, that is, unless I'm misinformed, most RPG stories seem generic to me. 90% of what I've seen is "Personality deficient main character makes friends and goes on a magical quest for justice" or some shit like that. Explain why that makes you want to sit through pressing attack on a menu every five seconds. Granted, the characters have depth, but so does, uh, every other game with a decent story. This is why Blazblue is so epic. It has a great (albeit weird) story with deep characters and the gameplay is actually fast-paced. It also has branching story paths so that you feel like you are actually controlling the character. That's another point- when you say you want to be immersed in the game, define immersed. As in, feel like you're a part of the game? If you're talking about watching cutscenes, they're cutscenes, something every game has. Maybe the story continues during combat, but so does, uh, every other game, again, like MGS or Batman. If you're talking about feeling like you are the actual character, again, games like Blazblue give you the same opportunity to control where the story goes. Not sure how many RPGs do that. Also, may I suggest Heavy Rain? That's an excellent story with lots of twists, and is more immersive than any RPG I've played, hell more than any GAME I've played. Please just explain to me why everyone finds something so boring and stupid so delightful by comparison with every other media. If I'm not convinced, I swear I will order a copy of Chrono Cross on ebay, destroy it, and put it on youtube. Because that's how serious I am about my opinions. Bitch.
  15. Def bring Sonic the Fighters. I was hoping that would be there on Friday. Question, if Star Ocean is a legit poverty fighter, what about War of the Monsters?
  16. A bit disappointing that there were only 2 poverty tourneys considering there were so many signups. Next time I'll be sure to bring 3S and UMK3 on PS2, and maybe Clayfighter on Genesis, heheh. Also, I'm working late next Friday, so there's a chance I won't make it. I can probably be there at 11 but there's always a chance that they'll keep me later. Fraga, what happened to your stick?
  17. Need my Genesis again? I got my six button pad, dunno if you have another one. So are we just doing underplayed fighters, or should I try bringing Bloody Roar and Eternal Champions again?
  18. Lawl, so who actually showed up? Were it poverty night again I def would have gone.
  19. This would be much more interesting if I didn't have to read it. C'mon, who wants to read rap?
  20. Just ordered a nice looking Tekken 5 stick on ebay. Quite a bargain- just under $60, so hopefully it works. Hope to be learning it next week.
  21. I thought we already played Melty Blood.
  22. Why does everyone seem to hate their families so much? Are people just too cool to hang out with their dad anymore? Thanks to Cheese and Mindgam3 for helping me out in GG/MB last night. Respeck.
  23. Hey guys, I'm interested in getting back into GGAC with Jam. Anyone here play her, or at least know her enough to be willing to tutor me a bit this Friday? I'm tired of being the only one in the corner playing Tekken and BB by my lonesome. Even if no one knows how to play her, I'd like to learn the basics of the GG just to get decent, since it's been such a long time since I played. Tanks.
  24. God, I have the worst fucking luck when it comes to tournaments. I got screwed over in an SC4 tourney at CTcon a couple years ago when they hadn't yet unlocked Yoshimitsu, blew a tire on the way to U-con and missed the BB and Tekken tourneys, had to leave before the Tekken tourney at AB when it got delayed 6 hours, and now my fucking pad wouldn't work on Fraga's comp for CS! And I was high tier! HIGH TIER! Good lord, I've been screwed out of more tourneys than I've actually competed in, lol.
