Most Axl players don't come out of the wood work. >:
-
Alright, so I was told to look into 6 S+H throw option selects when I went down to Arcade Legacy for matches. As a new Axl player, I wouldn't advise it until getting Rensengeki FRC down completely, but I decided to look up Axl's throw range anyways, because I wanted to see what is the minimal range I could throw someone. DW feel free to correct me on this, but I tested this out on Faust, Sol, and Ky. Throw range for Axl always seems to be half a shoe away. Took a picture of it to help out others too. [link]

Haitaka having a 40f start-up... It's going to be a scrub killer. That, and Potemkins are going to have a rough time dealing with that ontop of Axl's already existing tools, but I still feel like in actual matches the best way to get into it is going to have to be an RC off of Rensengeki. At the very least that thing does way too much damage to count as a super, but I wish I could find out how much tension gain you get back from hitting that combo. YRC system benefits Axl a ton lmao.

KurodaP vs. Sammita [link] ( vs. ) [3/9/2014] Etarou vs. Black Berry [link] ( vs. ) [3/13/2014] [20:40] Not the best of match ups, but you still get to see a bit on how Axl has to deal with these again.

Well, good thing I'm now walking into a Testament match. I'm going to test out some of these against the player, and see where it goes with the info I have now. edited out some of my data though.

So should you for some ungodly reason fight this match up, I'm going to tell you exactly what's scary about this. Testament mouths (EXE Beast) are going to keep you in place. You know how Axl likes to make people jump? Well, you're going to be jumping a lot. Mouth to Mouth will really grind at the average player. This is a match up where Axl has to play patient, and really know how to defend. Back mouth guarantee's a 50/50 so if you get knocked down, you're going to have to need good judgement. You jump back FD on your wake up, you give Testament time to set up. If you sit there and block it, be prepared to guess a 50/50 between a low or an overhead, either way you're going to eat a skull. Speaking of Skulls, Testament has like 5 curse patterns, and can easily access curse from tapping you once if you're playing bad. Get hit by those, you won't be able to play your game without eating a counter hit. It's bad enough that you have to look out for webs, and be constantly mobile because of mouths, but skulls make it so that if you do anything, it's going to be a counter hit. The last thing you really want is to get styled on by Testament. Also keep in mind that Force Break Skull hovers over you, and gives 10 curse reps instead of the usual 3. You can block high skull and low skull, but FB Skull will hit you on block. You can however, hit him once to make the skulls disappear, but this is much harder than you think, given the situation you're in. If Testament goes for warrant because you've been throwing out chains predictably, make him feel bad by doing counter because chains are hit-cancellable. If you have the same problem I do, where you react a bit too late, do the guard point once it hits. It'll OS into the counter because Testament crossed you up via teleport. Testament is tall, so you can toss out 5P if you predict he's going to try and cast something. Your chains are also really good for clearing out webs, but a good Testament will always have at least 3 of them on the field, somewhere so don't get too happy that you cleared out the landmine. However you have to take what you can get. On knock down, Testament will probably try to go for warrant, so if you toss out a spaced 3P cancel that into a counter if you call it. Also make sure you space enough so you don't get thrown, Testament's range is quite nice. Keep your eye on Testament's meter though, some of them do like to toss out FB Gravedigger on wake up if they think you're hungry. You scored the knock down, don't let it go to waste! I feel like it's a generally annoying match up. Axl want's to control airspace, but Testament has ways to keep Axl staying in one area. The match feels like you're playing through an obstacle course. Force break skull makes it so that you're forced to move, one way or the other. You'd have to be playing on point during this match up, and capitalize on damage whenever you can, otherwise it's going to go horribly awry. The good news is, as long as you can keep consistent pressure on Testament, he can't get anything started. You get lucky and score a knockdown? Ride that, harder than usual. Now if for some reason, a Testament isn't going completely nuts and turning the screen into an obstacle course, you're free to just block, and punish when you see blatant and obvious gaps. But yeah in general, be patient, or be prepared to go through Olmec's lost temple.

Oh shit, I didn't even consider that as an option. I think about it now, if you have 50 Tension, you could RC the overhead on hit and put them back in a new pressure string. Jack up their guard bar even more, so when you do land that Bomber loop, it's going to look like a combo video but hurt like something else.

I'm really surprised no one's posting anything in here. Gatlings all the things is too accurate though. I'll throw up what I found on here instead of the combo section because I feel like this belongs here instead, at least this portion. 2P->5S Gatling because I'm horrible at spacing 2P -> Rensengeki. With 25 tension you can be a jerk and do FB Rensengeki, guarantee'd to hit as long as 5S connects.. All techs lead in a tech trap. If it's forward, you get a nice corner bomber loop (from midscreen.) , if it's backwards, you get 6K - 2S (which too was a really nice gatling change.) , neutral tech results in 2S. They do anything dumb off of that, you have all the time in the world to react with a high counter. Off of 5S you could also do Axl's unblockable. You have enough space to not get poked out of it, so you can force them into eating the unblockable, or if you think they're going to jump, you can feint it and... Well you know where that goes. The third thing off of 2P-5S you could do is the cross up ( 63214 S) . I'd say use this sparingly, because after awhile this move will get blown up. It's good if you catch them sleeping though, so if you think you're good at trolling your opponent, then go nuts. But yeah I decided to experiment with 5S, and imho this gives Axl yet another way to scare and confuse the opponent into jumping, or forcing them to jump anyways.

I'm garbage at jump installing so I'll throw my data out here, Tests done with : State : Jump Recovery : Random Guard : Limited Tension :0 5 Different characters Midscreen (Start of the match positioning.) Here's an image of the position they're left from neutral tech vs. Axl's. Well that's the research I did hope it helps you compare with the notes you got DH. I usually just do this variation of the AA because it tacks on more damage, from the usual 6K 2S sj. H D variation I was doing.

Well, I'll throw my notes on this. Potemkin's butt slam can be high countered on reaction. It's better to do that instead of 2S. 3P full spaced as a meaty on Potemkin's knockdown is viable. Since it multi hit's it means he can't do wake up Hammerfall against you. Speaking of multi hit's, Rensengeki is rad and multi-hits, and since Hammerfall has a point of super armor, 2P xx Rensengeki works out fine here from mid-screen. You can go for the FRC from this and do the usual follow ups. He's heavy and can't air dash. Go be a jerk and abuse 6K, Backwards IAD 6P or 2S depending on how much you trust your reactions, and from what range you're at. If they're FD'ing in the air, you're winning. If you're hitting them, you're winning as well. Instant block 6H xx Slidehead, and jump after 6H or you're probably going to have a horrible time as Potemkin slowly walks in on you after a hard knock down. Play very patiently and make Potemkin sad to jump in the air. You can bully Potemkin, but you'll have to get used to playing lame. Luckily he's slow, and has very telegraphed jumps. Just be aware that if you're eating a slide head, it's probably going to be a bad scenario, but it's not the worst of it. If you learn to FD at certain points, and take advantage of knock downs to get farther away from Potemkin, you can make things extremely miserable for him.

I want to go, and I have a ride but I'm broke. If I did go though, all I'd do is play Guilty gear. None of my cosplay stuff is ready lmao. edit : Also there's another BUCKEYLAN tournament next week on the 29th if anyone would like to show up for Guilty Gear casuals, they also run Blazblue but I don't know if it's tournament standard. Most of their money comes in from Capcom and KoF games. We've opted to run some Guilty Gear, but they don't feel like it'll show any wood work. Link is [here] Also there's another BADC coming up sometime in April too, I'd hope to see some of you guys there.

I've seen this in Japanese videos, and I've screwed around with Axl quite a bit for the past few months. Do you mind if I toss this in here? I'm surprised I have not seen this thread. (Anti Air) [Midscreen] 2S - 6K[1] - 2S - Sj. J.H J.D xx Kokuu Geki

I'm seeing vid's of May's theme and covers of Ky's and what not but no Axl yet. That makes me sad. :c
-
I keep saying it about May's theme, but we gotta stop I-No from stealing the Chaos Emerald. Also can't wait til we get solid sound quality of the XRD OST. I really really like Axl's theme, it's really chill.

Last I asked, I think I was carpooling with Soi and Amadeus down there. I want to try and get in as much GG as possible, tbh. We're discussing it, like we've got three locations ; Someone brought up using a Community College hall, but I'm against it just because parking is going to be awkward, and so is commuting to get food. Get in the wrong lot you're going to get your car pulled. The other venue we were looking at was 16-bit's Barcade. They were discussing Marvel and Street Fighter being ran there, but honestly, I'll try to sneak in some anime there. Third venue was this food place being built off the same formula as the Barcade up here in Cbus, the only problem is that after 9 PM it's 21+ only, which honestly isn't that bad. We're still planning it honestly, but I kind of want to see Columbus get back into playing in competitions again, so I'm asking around and seeing what we have to do to get out.
