Ottawa: Why have fundamentals when you have gimmicks?
Rigel Cyrosea replied to Freezerburn's topic in International
Well, that was a lot of fun. The competition was crazy. I'm disappointed in how I went out (Potemkin), but I had a few good matches, and I got in some casuals against some really good players. Definitely worth it. -

I'll also be there, for GG and maybe Melty. -

So I eventually realized that the companion fare deal is only applicable to the standard fare, which is something like 60$. Unfortunately, that makes it basically the same price as getting the regular tickets. For some reason, the advanced purchase deal was still open yesterday, so I just picked up a single ticket for myself on that. The Greyhound site is pretty inconsistent. In some places it says companion fare on any ticket, in some it says regular fare only, some places say you can bring 2 people, some 3, you have to purchase 3 days in advance... or maybe five, depending on which section of the terms you read. Pretty frustrating. In any case, when you actually go to buy tickets, it'll only apply the discount on the standard fare rate. -

Rideshare is a little too sketchy for my taste. -

Greyhound is looking like a better option to me. Round trip to Montreal is 36$ if booked before Saturday. 40$ otherwise. There are buses that leave at 10:30 and 11:59, so no worries about having enough time to finish the tournament. Also, up to two people that book with you can get a 50% off companion fare discount. -

Jesus, that's awful. Weren't there a couple of new people at HQ a couple of weeks back? I don't think I've seen them since. I don't want to make assumptions, but you'd think if it was one of the regulars behind this it would've happened sooner. -

Uh oh. Is this related to the cash box disappearance? If HQ does end up closed for a bit, I don't mind hosting for anime stuff in the meantime. -

One of the first GGAC combo vids I ever watched was a Baiken one. Here it is. Still pretty great. I'd forgotten about all the slashback stuff. Mostly it's flashy stuff, but you can get the basic idea of Baiken combos from it: Launch - something into j.D, FRC, airdash tatami, j.SD, airdash j.SD. -

Of course it's too earlier to tell whether xrd will be good or not. And it's not that I expect it to be bad. What I'm worried about is that it'll be like SC2 was - decent enough that everyone will switch over, but still quite inferior to the original. -

If a slower, 3D, version of GG comes out and kills AC+R, I will be really sad. I would honestly prefer that this new version not get made. I'll take a small scene for a good game over a large scene for a worse game any day. -

Pick a different character and money match him, if that's the only reason you lost. I'd like to see that. -

I'll be at HQ today fairly early. I'm on campus and finished my exams now, I'll probably head over around 6:00ish. Not sure when I'll arrive tomorrow, depends how long it takes to get there. Probably between 11:00 and 12:00. -

The reason BB replaced P4A was that it's a lot of people's second game, but almost nobody's first game. All the entrants for P4A at the last tournament would already have come for a different game. BB, on the other hand, has some dedicated people that only play BB. Still, when I made that observation to Myles, I didn't expect him to take P4A out entirely, just run it as a side game instead of a main game. If there's space and demand, I'll do my best to make sure it's run anyway. -
As of right now, there are no plans to run P4A. Which is a bit strange. I think the T.O. is concerned about available setups. If we have enough time, entrants, and available setups, I'm sure we can add P4A. We'll see what happens, I guess. Also of note, if you prefer to play on PS3 and you are able to bring PS3 consoles/copies of games, please do. We have a lot of Xbox setups already, but almost no PS3 setups.

A friend of mine is a big fan of VS, he got me to try it when Resurrection came out. I'm really enjoying it. It's pretty easy to pick up the basics, but there's all kinds of depth if you look for it. We went from one VS player in Ottawa to seven or so, just from this one guy bringing it to every gather and getting people to try it.

The TO for Capital K.O. just got back from Cali. He's gonna be getting things properly organized this week. I'll ask him for a time, and let you know as soon as I can. -

BB is more alive than Persona. People play it at Algonquin and HQ pretty much every week. I haven't seen Persona at either of those places for months. -

I think everyone in this thread plays Persona. But I don't know of anyone who actually practices it and considers it their main game. -
