I can't speak for what is better than what, because I've found there is absolutely no such thing as an objectively good fighting game. A lot of the time, it all comes down to what system mechanics/characters/etc appeal most to you. In the end, it's all about what is fun to you.
If someone can't take a game seriously, it's just how they are. I can't take Guilty Gear or Arcana Heart seriously at all. Not because they aren't good games, but they don't click with me.
While on the other hand, I absolutely love BlazBlue, King of Fighters, and Melty Blood. Again, that doesn't mean they're good games for everyone, but for me, I enjoy it them a lot.
If a game is balanced enough to the point where almost any character can win, than it's already not an objectively bad fighting game. the only bad fighting games out there are the incredibly broken, one-sided ones. And there aren't too many of those.
