hey fellas, long time GG player in Chicago. Rarely post, but just wanted to see if ppl from the northside were up for games.

RULES: General - Your behavior at MWC is important. While we want everyone to be excited and "hype", no phsyical violence of any kind will be tolerated. You will not be warned at all. If you hit anyone or anything, or make any threats, you will be ejected from the event and banned from future events. Its just that simple. We also ask that you maintain a respectable perimeter around our live-stream staff and our director's pit. We have a lot of work to do so that you have a smooth event to enjoy, and we'd really appreciate it if you avoid crowding in on us. Aside from that, you need to know that a "Set" or "Match" consists of 2/3 or 3/5 "Games", which consist of 2/3 or 3/5 "Rounds". Every tournament will be double elimination format, meaning you have to lose two Sets to be eliminated. The number of Games in a set, and Rounds in a game will vary by software title. This event is a "Bring your own Controller" event. Joysticks and/or gamepads will not be supplied. With the exception of the Wii software titles, wireless controllers are explicitly banned from this event. If you have a PS3 controller that is wireless, you must plug it in via USB cable while playing, and turn the controller off in the PS3 menu as soon as you disconnect your controller after the Set ends. Borrowing a controller/joystick from someone, or loaning yours out, is not a valid excuse to delay your match. No turbo or macro functions are allowed on your controllers. If you are caught using turbo or macros, you will be disqualified on the spot. Button mapping using the in-game menu is, however, allowed. If your controller malfunctions, you must call a stop to the match right away and call for a judge to inspect your controller before you touch it again. If the judge finds your malfunction to be real, your match will be delayed so you can find a replacement controller and then replayed reasonably from the last "Game" won as soon as possible. If the judge finds your controller is working fine, you will be given a loss on the spot, no matter how many rounds/games were won/lost. If you wait to complain your controller was not working until after a round/game/set, nothing will be done to help you. Call for it as soon as it happens. When your name is called for a match, you will have 2 minutes to get to your station to play, or you will face disqualification. If you need to leave the room before you are eliminated from the tournaments to get food or so to the bathroom for more than a minute or two, please notify the director's table before you leave and when you return. If you are placed "On-Deck" on a station, you and your opponent need to stay near the station until it opens up so you can play your match. If you win a match at MWC, it is your responsibility to report your win to the director's pit. If you fail to do so, you may be given a loss even though you won, as the director has no way of knowing. You will be able to check the brackets at any time, in real time, online through the Tonamento.com system. If you notice any errors, like a loss posted where you won, please alert the director's pit ASAP. No outside food or drink is allowed in the ballroom what-so-ever. Food/Drink purchased from the hotel's concession stand, bar, or restaurant is okay to have in the ballroom. No pausing the games at any time is permitted. If you pause the game, you will be given a loss for that round, and your opponent will be allowed to beat your character up to get the game to roll over to the next round, even if this builds him meter. Tough luck, you shouldnt have paused the game. If you pause during an animation that would have killed the opponent, the "Imminent Defeat" rule from Evo will trigger, and you will still get your win. Pausing including hitting a 'home' button. In all games, the winner of a game within a set must keep his character, and the loser may switch. Players will select their initial characters in a reasonable amount of time. If either player wishes, he can call for a judge to assist with double blind selection, in which the requestor will whisper his choices to the judge, and then his opponent will choose their characters. The judge will enforce the requestor chooses whom he said he would, to be sure neither player saw who his opponent was choosing first. Originally posted on Shoryuken.com: http://www.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=225040 I know a lot of you were starting to wonder why there had not been an announcement about the legendary Midwest Championships for 2010. The short answer is that MWC is in my hands this year, and we are saying goodbye to Nickel City. Its been a good run there, but consoles are the home of competitive fighting games now, and its time to move forward. MWC is back in 2010, directed by Keits (with Nives as assistant-director), and its going to prove the old axiom this May. Where: Crowne Plaza Hotel CHICAGO-NORTHBROOK. You can book your room by calling (847)298-2525 or 1-800-2CROWNE, or use the MWC Reservation website. When: May 8th and May 9th, 2010. Registration starts Friday night, or Saturday morning at 10am. Tournaments kickoff is at 12 noon Saturday and we close at 2am. Sunday we begin at 11am. Hotel Rooms: I am super stoked to offer you guys rooms at the event for $69/night! Every room in the hotel, be it listed as having two beds or one, actually has two beds in it. (The single bed rooms have a sofa with a fold out bed in it.) The rooms have LCD televisions from LG that you are welcome to plug your game systems into (via RCA). Anyone who knows me knows I am one of the pickiest about monitor lag, and these TVs lag only a frame or two. They are great and I played TvC on one 60 games last night. You can book your room by calling (847)298-2525 or 1-800-2CROWNE, or use the MWC Reservation website. The website is the best way to ensure you get the group rate. If you call, be sure to say you are in the Midwest Championships Group to ensure you get the special room rate and to ensure your rooms count toward the event total. The deadline to reserve your room is 4/23/2010. Even if you are local to the Chicago area, at this price, you should consider staying in the hotel Saturday night, as the tournament will run until 2am, and start again in the morning. If you accidentally reserve a room without mentioning Midwest Championships, or if you use a Crowne prefered/frequent program to save money, please contact me ASAP via PM so I can make sure your room is added to our block. Airport and Hotel Travel: Our venue is 9 miles up 294 from O'hare International Airport. A cab ride to the venue is about 27 dollars, so try to split, or offer someone at the event with a car half of that to come get you (its a pretty short drive). Registration: Feel free to preregister in this thread by listing your gamer handle, real name, location, and the games you wish to enter, and please let me know if you personally reserve a room and for which nights. You do not need to let me know if you are splitting a room with someone else who paid. All formal registration will be taken at the door. Every player, no matter how many tournaments they wish to enter, will pay the one-time Venue Fee of 20 dollars. You will also pay for every tournament you wish to enter, and their prices will be listed below in the Gamelist. All main and side tournaments will be run by MWC staff. To be clear, if you are playing a video game in the ballroom, casual or tournament, you need to have paid the venue fee. Spectating is, as always, free. Late Registration notes - If you are going to be late to enter a tournament, please call a friend at the venue and have them pay to enter you, and then try to make it in before your match gets called. If you miss you match, you will be sent to the losers bracket, and if you miss that match you will be eliminated. If you do not get registered by the tournament start time, and believe me when I say we will be starting on time... you can still be entered into any Bye position on the bracket that sits in Winners1 or Losers1 rounds. If those rounds complete, no more late entries will be accepted. Please do not be late, or try to make an arangement to have a friend register you. We will be taking registrations Friday night before the event if you wish to give yourself more time Saturday morning for breakfast, practice, or sleep. Equipment Discount: If you bring a TV or Game System and we decide to use it, and you are able to leave it for the full duration of the event, you will recieve a 5 dollar refund from your venue fee when the event closes on Sunday. Please bring your equipment out to help this tournament run smoothly. We need CRT televisions, Evo monitors, and PS3s more than anything, though a few PS2s and Wiis will be welcome as well. We would also love you long time + happy ending if you brought extra power strips and extension cords. Please label your stuff! We need copies of all the games, too, though there is no rebate. Do your part to help this event be a major success. Prizes: After paying your venue fee, you pay to enter each tournament you wish to compete in. The full amount paid for each game goes into that game's "Entry Pot", and will be paid out to the top 3 placers in that game in the amounts of 70%/20%/10%. News on possible Pot Bonuses and bonus prizes is coming soon, stay tuned! Venue features: The ballroom we will be using is the "Chicago" ballroom, and measures 2,596 Sq/ft. The hotel will be setting up a cash consession stand IN the ballroom, and will be selling very reasonably priced stadium-style eats (hotdogs, sodas, etc). On top of this, if you walk 6 feet across the hall from our ballroom, you will be inside a full Bar, so you can get your drink on if you are of-age (and you are welcome to bring your drinks back into the ballroom, so long as you dont share with minors! If you do this you will be kicked out of the venue.) The hotel has a full restauraunt as well that serves a breakfast buffet, and if you paid the venue fee for MWC, you will be able to get a discount at the restaurant with our group rate. Method: I'm pleased to announce that we will be using Tonamento to run MWC. That means you will be able to get text message alerts when your matches are up, so if you have a cell phone and a data plan, thats good on you! Tonamento also allows me run many different tournament games at once, so when the schedule is published, dont be surprised to see many of the games starting at the same time. Tonamento allows both tournament players and fans at home to follow the brackets live and view them anytime online. The hotel has free WiFi that you are welcome to use to check on the brackets at any time. Sponsors: We are pleased to announce that GPX Gaming will be coming out to sponsor MWC by donating a lot of equipment! These guys are great and have some great stuff, so look forward to it! Live Stream: An announcement on the details of our live stream is coming soon. We have wired internet to ensure a smooth stream, and might have some real professionals coming in too. Stay tuned! Gamelist: These games will run no matter what. The Schedule for when these games will start will be released later. Please plan on staying the full duration of both tournament days if possible so you dont miss any action. Super Street Fighter 4 (ps3) [$10] Super Street Fighter 2 HD-Remix (ps3) [$10] Tekken 6 (ps3) [$10] Marvel vs Capcom 2 (ps3) [$10] Tatsunoko vs Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars (wii) [$10] Melty Blood: Actress Again (ps2) [$10] Guilty Gear: Accent Core (ps2) [$10] Mystery Game Tournament (???) [$10] Windjammers (FubarDuck has offered to bring his MVS cart, now we just need someone with an AES+ mvs cart converter, SPEAK UP!) [$10] Super Street Fighter II Turbo (ARCADE) [$10] (Thanks to ShinjiGohan) *An announcement on our Smash Brothers tournaments is coming soon. We may be running both Brawl and Melee. Side Tournaments: These will run as time/space is available based on number of entries by the official tournament staff. If you pay for a side game that gets cancelled or you have to leave the event perminently before it stars, you will be refunded. If you want a side game added to the list, I'd be happy to add it and if time permits we will run it. Please do not run your own side games at MWC, as our staff is perfectly willing to run anything so long as enough people are interested in entering and we can find the space for it. King of Fighters 12 (ps3) [$5] King of Fighters 2k2 Unlimited Match (ps2) [$5] BlazBlue: Continuum Shift (This may not run, depending on how we can set it up) [$5] Garou: Mark of the Wolves (ps2) [$5] Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike (ps2) [$5] Capcom vs SNK 2: Millionaire Fighting 2001 (ps2) [$5] Super Puzzle Fighter II: HD Remix (ps3) (If we get a 360 with dedicated controllers and an extra tv for this, it could be a main game) [$5] Get hype everyone, this will be the first major for Super SF4. Please plan on staying all day Saturday and Sunday if possible, as many of the events will continue running all weekend if entry numbers are big. if you knock ABA down while she isn't in moroha mode, pretty much ... you can win by just playing a safe game the whole time and keeping in mind about dead angles, bursts, and slide. if you do a lot of safe options and no bandit revolver (or the like), and keep her within close range. not much she can do.
-
i havent done this in awhile (brings back memories), but if i recall, its right when grand viper brings them airborne? i also remember it scaling really badly from grand viper.
-
2D -> BR -> RC, and u can go straight into the loop.
-
havent played reload in a long time, but it isnt the same combo for different weight characters, as well as characters with weird hitboxes. axl, testament, and slayer are pretty standard and easy characters to do dustloop on.
-
i actually talked bout this briefly with destin, and there is a small window to DP her during the first 2 hits of her rekka. i think the 3rd hit is relatively easy, this is speaking from a subjective point, but the first 2 hits i always had issues with. the window is always in the same place, and is about 3-4 frames wide. if you IB it, it should not be too bad. with a good amount of practice, i think that is not too bad to hit. tiamat's GV under the 2nd hit of her danzai is pretty helpful. You can get IK from command throw.

you obviously did not read my post before where i calculated everything out for you. it is also not 48 frames, and you don't have a 22 frame window because bandit bringer is not airborne on the 1st frame. also i never said it doesn't counter it. you have to read posts carefully before responding to them. i agree with this. my point is there are better options than bandit bringer. bandit bringer isn't all too safe against pot, also the proration isnt all that good either. EDIT: my argument is simply that to react to slidehead with bandit bringer (assuming they are not using 6K instead to fake it), there requires a lot of focus on the players part. too much to make countering with bandit bringer practical ON REACTION. you have 13 frames, fastest possible input time for bandit bringer is 2.8 frames, according to my research. the fastest electrical signal that the brain can send to your fingers is 76.2 m/s (http://hypertextbook.com/facts/2002/DavidParizh.shtml). please note, electrical signals through nerves are about 300 million times slower than what will go through a coax cable. average height of a male in the US is 1.7685 m (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_height). arm length is approximately 1:1 proportionate to height. 0.675 m arm length, and disregarding the rest of the distance to your head, which would increase the reaction speed. this will come out to, the fastest possible signal from your brain to your fingers which is 0.696 frames (1.7685 * 0.5 m / 76.2 m/s * 60 fps). because bandit bringer is 4 inputs (4 directions + a button input which is simultaneous with one of the directions), 6236K, you can not use 236[K] because holding will be much longer than the precise input timing and decrease your leniency window to execute. ~0.7 frames per input * 4 inputs = ~2.8 frames. so lets round up, i mean i know its a little unfair, but well. 3 frames to input Bandit Bringer. Now for your average reaction time. Can't find the source again, but from my understanding, 100 ms is the 0.01 percentile. average is 216 ms for fingertip reaction time from the brain to your finger. this is pressing a button as a reaction. that translates to 6 frames for 100 ms, because i m going to give the benefit of the doubt and assume the people playing here have ridiculous reaction time. so you have 9 frames to react, with a 4 frame window of leniency in this case. people still get hit by standing dust (20+ frames). now back to my original argument. is it do-able? yes it is. 4 frame window of leniency with on the spot reaction time and input time. is it worth it now? no i dont think so. there are better things u can do with quicker response to slidehead. if you are hitting it on ur friend, my guess is that you are 1/2 guessing and 1/2 reacting, which means u know how your friend plays so u can kinda put 1/2 of your confidence in what he is doing to try to react to it, but that is not really reacting to it. it is still a form of guessing. if you can refute this, and bring up something interesting for me to read. i ll be happy to learn and understand this better. from a subjective standpoint, i would say bb vs slidehead? not a good idea. dont bring that weak 22 frames and 48 frames info to me, i already addressed that.
-
safest to block if you are preparing for a pot buster? risk of taking 50% of his health when you go airborne? airborne from bb? when does sol ever take 50% of pot's health from a combo? fail then br frc to get out of it? if you never did it, and you are just theorizing, how can you say with certainty that "you can at least do br frc to get out of it"? i have no idea what you are talking about.
-
i can understand that. stuff like that happens with 5H and 6H as well.
-
any videos? because 5S is not active for that long, but dead angles are all invulnerable for a period of time.
-
whose dead angles does it beat?
-
i dont counter slidehead at all with BB.
-
i think its do-able, but pretty much has to be the only thing your looking for (while buffering in the motions). dont necessarily think the reward is all that great. BB doesn't scale especially well or anything. i personally just dont like riot stomp as a move in general. yields more problems than solutions, but thats a personal opinion. that does work. i briefly glanced over the previous posts, but pretty much. sol likes being close, pot likes people being close. pot has a better inside game. most of the match should be played at mid-screen, though i think sol has to play riskier than pot has to, which makes it more difficult to play out.
-
okay correcting my statement. i personally don't think i can react to it and here is why: -- assuming you react to it, in the situation with just execution time vs execution time, the latest you can hit slidehead with bandit bringer is 18 frames into the move. BB is 32 frames execution, airborne on the 9th frame. any later than 18 frames, and he can block it, and BB will only hit on its recovery. if you execute on exactly the 18th frame though, then because u are airborne on the 9th frame. u will get knocked down since its 27 frames into slidehead before your safe. that is no good. so you actually have to execute it on the 13th frame at latest. i think 13 frames is a pretty big window, but the fact of the matter is you dont necessarily know when he is going to do slidehead, and then you have to look for it. also it is 13 frames for you to see it, then input bandit bringer. i don't input quarter circles in 1 frame. i also don't consistently react to 13 frame moves. 5H is also an 11 frame window (22 frame execution for slidehead - 11 frames for 5H's execution), but I can hit a button much faster than i can input a direction, also i can process hitting a button to react to something much faster than inputting as a reaction. median reaction time from eye to finger is 216 milliseconds, 13 frames is 215 milliseconds. it is possible for people to hit under 100 ms time to react to something, but that is in the 0.01 percentile i believe. less than that. now say your reaction time is the median, then you have 1 frame to input BB. if your reaction time is faster than 100 ms, then that means you reacted to the move in 6 frames, which is a good deal under the 13 frames, and have a 7 frame window to execute. -- this is a lot of math on paper, so maybe people can shine some light on their own experience. from my experience, i don't react to slidehead like that, and just feel as though it isnt the best option. i rather counter with 5H, airdash, or run in on him during his recovery. what do you think?
-
only issue with using BB to try and counter slidehead is that you have to guess, and against solid players. well, there should be more consistency than guessing. also if it does not hit at absolutely the tip, pot can IB -> potbuster you, or backdash potbuster. it isnt hard to IB bandit bringer, i mean it starts up in 32 frames. if you land the bandit bringer, thats cool and all, but i dont think the reward is equal or really worth it. i rather d.5H or GF -> FRC -> jump within the distance where he cant slidehead. even if he doesn't slidehead, i have options.
