^No it isn't. Quebec french in mtl is like the illegitimate child of French and English. So many english expressions are used(un condom, un condo to name a few). And the english words that are used in French french are only there because the french word is not convenient or doesn't make much sense. A bus stop is called an "arret de bus", but the stop signs in french french says "stop". The stop sign is telling you to stop, not that it's a stop spot, and the literal translation for "stop" in french is "arretez vous" and that's not really practical to put on a sign, so they stick to the "stop" Another thing that bugs me is "liqueur". Which is supposed to mean alcohol, or a pharmaceutical solution, but here, it means soft drink. TBH, i don't really care but quebec french tries wayyy too hard to be different. Hell they even change the way some stuff is pronounced and written, like "merde" which somehow becomes "marde" in quebec. I live with some french dudes, and when we got here, we were all wondering whether they were really speaking french because we didn't understand anything. And every french speaking person who came from somewhere else has told me the exact same thing. #thankgodforenglish /rant
