  1. Thanks everyone! I am again amazed by the helpful, responsive community here. it seems my issue rightnow is adjusting to the LONG blockstring and understanding when they end/how to get out. Im working on it. The well timed vivace seems like a good plan. And yes, I have seen the frame data a bit. Ive never been huge on knowing data, just some basic stuff like: zangiefs SPD is one frame, while akuma's raging demon is zero frames. Ryu can wakeup SRK in 3 frames. But as far as really knowing how much something is plus or minus on block, I didnt feel like I had to know. sometime sI would look it up jus tto know if a move was "safe"ish or not, but rarely did I come up with my own frametraps or anything, just stole them from pros if I used them.
  2. OK, serious question time: how the fuck do you get out of corner pressure? Ive found myself mashing Shoryuken out of instinct. Otherwise I either: eat huge combos and die or use up all of my barrier gauge, then eat huge combos and die. Sometimes I get counterhit out of jabs or throw attempts and eat huge combos and die. Is there some equivalent to SRKs, like a move with invincibility on wake-up or something?
  3. So, alright. I understand that Carl doesn't exactly have BnBs. But taking into account my mediocre execution: what are one or two reliable combos? I have my Carl solo one pretty much down: 5B 6B 623C 6B sjc 5B 2C 5B jc 5B 2C 5C. I thats a pretty solid combo. When the game is Carl - Nirvana - opponent, I usually just have nirvana do drillhand and I airdash, trying to get a cross-up or something. Or if they are coming at me, the long-finger 623D When its Carl - opponent - Nirvana I go for 5B, 6C, 6D then I just go into my Carl solo combo. Theres gotta be something better to do here thats still at my level, and something with some of Carl's reset shenanigans oppurtunities afterward (believe yall call that okizeme?). any help to be given for these very basic questions?
  4. Hey, I was tryin to play with you earlier but the internet was doin weird things, and it wouldnt let me join your room or party. I dunno if you go the messages I sent you either. But Im at my moms for a few days while i wait for my new house to open up, so I should have better internet soon. Its probably for the best, my scrubbiness is still embarrassing. Id say I drop 9/10 combos that i start, haha.
  5. proration is some mathematical shit. Ill try and keep it in mind. other just two very specific questions: what can I get off of throws? (with or without absurd execution?) and off of the 3C slide. I know I can get an ultra off of it, but if I dont have meter, can I do anything?
  6. Oh wow, lots of great info there! Its a little in Blazblue-ese, but Ill def be referring to this as I improve. Ill hit you up on live sometime soon as well.
  7. This is my first non-SF fighting game, and Ive been playing for about a week. My combo creativity has been limited, haha. Been doing a lot. B, 6C, 6D then just goin for resets into that same tiny combo, haha. Real Talk: Im a newb.
  8. Hello, newb here. First time in the Carl specific forums. Is there no combo thread for him? Sorry if this is obvious, but I do not know where to look.
  9. well, after my thread got hijacked (trolled?) I am back. The execution for anyone is still real hard for me. I drop FADCs in SF to this day, now and then. But I acknowledge that the gap between high execution chars and low execution chars is not as big and scary as it first seemed, and not letting it keep me from trying Carl. I am in the process of moving, so I havent been playing much, but I can get a couple reps of carls combo with his 26 and nirvana's 8[D], which is a good amount of damage for very little execution, so tahts making me feel good. Also, Carl's dad being announced is awesome. If I eventually get the hang of carl, it will be right when Relius is released and I will have to switch, haha. Then once I master him theyll release Jubei, no doubt. Well, anyway, thanks for keeping the advice incoming. Hope to play some of you online in the near future.
  10. Ive been hitting up training mode. Definitly a higher level of execution that Taokaka for combos. But Tao required that high level for drive cancel mix-ups/cross-ups. If I can get a 2C with carl, the back-and-forth between carl and nirvana isnt too hard and does lots of damage. Other, harder combos I drop before they do enough damage alot, but they make for easy resets. I think carls complexity could be worse. that being said: IF THERE ARE ANY CARL PLAYERS THAT WANT TO PLAY ME AND HELP ME OUT: ADD ME: REGAL STIRLING.
  11. alright, well update for everyone: I think Taokaka and tsubaki are out of the picture. every character seems pretty tough to learn, so might as well learn a REAL hard one that I like more. so Carl, here I come.
  12. btw everyone, might I just compliment you all on being considerably more helpful, active, and thoughtful than the SRK community was when Ive made similar posts there about marvel.
  13. clearly its just different than in SF. the mobility fucks with my head too much rightnow. Considering just playin marvel instead, haha.
  14. footsies are nonsense in this game. Ill be learning a character, and constantly just look at moves being like: wow this is a great poke. Then when I throw it out online, the other player does some Drive gimmick or something that makes my poke irrelevant and gets me with a huge combo.
  15. ya, my thinking was: If I wanted to play jin, I could kinda just play ryu and akuma in MvC3 and get the same basic thing.
