  1. Winnipeg's Persona 4 Arena and BlazBlue and Skull Girls scene will never die!
  2. Hey Braindead great session on Saturday. I learned a few little things. Still mostly just have to put in more practice at the moment. I was trying a lot of new stuff, so it needs time to sink in. Next time I'll warm up before I come over, then maybe I won't drop so many combos and DPs facing the right :S Also thanks for coming out Friday, Feelin'TheWind. Now you got a good idea of what our scene is like. It was a smaller gathering that night, I think. Anyways, long story short, we were all impressed at your skills considering we hadn't met you yet. It's always a pleasant surprise when someone shows up and they are already good at the game. What I'm saying is, if you stick with the scene, you're sure to improve even more! Sky's the limit. See you guys Friday!
  3. Science lounge at the UofM is open for business again! Hope to see everyone there. Remember, we meet between 7 or 8 and stay until 11. We will be the people playing the FGs on playstations!
  4. Woot Baselan! This Friday! (that means NO SCI LOUNGE this week! We are all at Baselan instead) Baselan is the best tournament. Only thing is, it's more like a weekend long gathering with tournaments in it. So there might not be a strict schedule, but if you are there all weekend, then all the fun stuff will happen! There will be BlazBlue and I even saw some Guilty Gear one year. See you guys there!
  5. Hey glad to hear you're coming out! Don't worry about not knowing who we are... we are the ones playing fighting games! But seriously, since we are expecting you, we can definitely keep an eye out for your. It won't be a problem. lol that describes a lot of people in Chipdamage. You'll fit right in! I think as a general rule, we should probably hand out or business cards to anyone we see who looks asian and has glasses...
  6. Skull Girls! If anybody reads these, Friday nights will be canceled for a couple of weeks. It's so students can study for their exams. I assume someone will update with a post when something comes up again. In the meantime, how's everybody doing?
  7. Good games tonight. I only got to play Stu, but it was good. I still got lots to work on, but I'm glad you think I'm getting better. Hopefully see you guys on Saturday to. And don't forget to use this thread a bit. Because people should know that we exist, and all that. :P
  8. I don't even know if you are thinking about what you are saying. You cannot simply "defend" a mixup. It doesn't make it easier for the opponent if they are expecting a mixup. It makes it harder for the opponent if they are expecting X and you are doing Y. If you are looking for a simple "do this and it works", that will not be the case. The way mixups *actually* work is by psychology. Not reaction times. So simply pressing the buttons we tell you will not guarantee your success. You must train to hypnotize your opponent. It's not so simple and will seem to not work the magic that people say it will. What people may forget to tell you is why you need to practice mixups, and why they might work when you think they would not. It's not the moves, it's how you use them. And yes, if you learn to do it properly, it will work and you will be surprised.
  9. Adding to the discussion on "mixups that are too obvious" I was just musing about this today, then I saw this thread. If your opponent is expecting the mixup, then yah it won't work. If your opponent is not expecting the mixup, (for example 2C), then yah maybe it won't work. Maybe they are decent players with good reactions and don't mash. If your opponent is EXPECTING SOMETHING ELSE, (for example anything other than the 2C), that's when you got a good mixup. Only the best opponents cannot be "trained to fall for a trap". This is your goal. Make them counter X and go for Y. Now you are mixing up. Basically, if opponents didn't think, then mixups would generally not work. Literally every move used in a mixup string is blockable on reaction, but mixups still happen. Why? The opponent makes a mistake because you confused them for a split moment. Use that information against your opponent.
  10. Hey everybody. See you at the gathering tonight. If you are new and thinking of coming out... DO IT! Lol, we'll see you there. 7:00 (or 8:00-ish) to 11:00, at UofM Sci Lounge. Directions: http://chipdamage.com/forums/index.php/topic,5.0.html
  11. Hello Feelin'TheWind, and welcome! I know we can be easy to miss, but yes we have been meeting at the UofM every Friday for some years now. We're a growing scene and always looking for more players to come on down, so we hope you can make it to one of our gatherings. We already know you exist, so now you have to come! Lol But seriously it will be a good time. Remember to visit the site too: www.chipdamage.com/forum
  12. Hey what's up Winnipeg scene. I'm just getting into BBCS:Ex now. I hear you play in Winnipeg. That is cool me too! Nah just kidding, it's me Andy. We should use this thread to hype up our scene. Make it seem more active. Now is a good time to get new players, if there are any... So we don't want them to walk by without even noticing us. I think now we have seen almost as many talented players show up for BB as for the other games like Marvel or SF. What we don't see is a commitment to staying with the scene. Yet, these players show up being really good and disappear to who knows where. How do they get to be so good? Where are the running off to afterwards? The only thing I can think of is they visit sites like Dustloop and don't like our scene being so small. So what I propose is that we winnipeggers should post more in this thread to try and attract attention. Our scene's got an excellent foundation, we just need to grow now. We can post player details, tournament/ranbat information, GGs, rants about nerfs and buffs. That sort of stuff. What do you guys think?
  13. Hello, is Makoto's 2B a useful mixup option? I hear the proration is pretty bad, but for what it's worth, I'd like the option to make the opponent respect my lows. If the opponent always blocks high except for 214A~C~B on reaction, that's not much of a mixup. Against my opponents, they always seem to block that no problem. Mixing 5B with 6B works sometimes, but I start to get predictable so I want to spice it up... So what I'm saying is, I'd like to know if 2B has any uses beyond face value (eg, any good tricks with it?), and if anybody knows any good combos to follow up a hit with? Thanks!
  14. Hi, I'm new to Blazblue and Tsubaki. I'm trying to learn the PS3 CS2 challenge trials but I'm currently having difficulty with #7. For reference, here is a video with that trial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCnqX7Qqkms&feature=player_detailpage#t=128s The trial goes: 214D, 5C(whiff) C > j. C > j. CC > 236D > 214D, 5C(whiff) C > 2CC > j. C > j. CC > 236A > 214C > D(in air) My problem is the second 5C (whiff) C. I always either get both hits of CC or miss both hits (because the dummy techs). It sounds to me that I'm just missing the timing of 5CC, but I want to verify with someone more knowledgeable than myself. For example, could it be the spacing is incorrect, or maybe I have to delay the 214D, or something? I don't know, please advise. I am performing the combo from the default midscreen position, which carries to the corner as the demonstration shows it. So I don't think it's that. Thanks in advance.
