I don't know what kind of attack you suffered in your Aegis thread, but you should understand that it's less about them being closed to new people in the community and more about the enduring personality these guys have. If you actually read this thread, you'll get some context and see that they troll each other as much or more than any newcomers. It's a lot of harsh jokes at peoples' expense. You said you're ready to brush off any pointless drama and flaming; if there is any, you're creating it yourself by taking their comments too seriously. Lighten up and roll with the punches. This "commitment" thing you're talking about sounds more like an issue with the way you tackle your grinding, and the way that they interpreted whatever explanation you gave. I know that I can't stand to be in training mode for more than 10 minutes at a time, so I'm a permascrub. Maybe you aren't getting the best bang for your buck in training mode, time-wise. By a "lack of commitment", they may have meant that you're not going the extra mile to train yourself, like watching top players games to learn match-ups and practicing optimum combos for damage, corner-carry, meter gain, etc. Having made the long trip to LG once from Etobicoke, I certainly wouldn't say that that took too much commitment, just a lot of free time. The one time I came out to LG at the beginning of the year, they were as welcoming as could be expected once it was obvious that I didn't have a clue what I was doing; I got a few tips here and there, but like any close-knit community, they were mostly there to talk to each other and I would either need to work my way into the group or else just let things happen around me; I was just an extra body that wasn't part of their normal social scene. All it takes to get in with any community is a foot in the door and the right attitude, and what that attitude is will differ from one community to the next. To be honest, the most intimidating thing about this community for me is just the fact that nobody else at my level (rock-bottom with no combos) shows up in person, or even posts here more than a handful of times. I think a better way of describing this community than "closed-off" is "intimidatingly good at anime games from the viewpoint of a newcomer". The community doesn't grow because all the scrubs go home and cry after they learn that they don't know how to do anything but hold forward. -

You'll do better than me if you put any effort into any of the games. My BB experience before going to the failed LG tournament in January consisted of casuals with friends I'd coaxed into playing and finishing the story mode on normal difficulty (all of that done on pad). Even now that I'm living closer to a scene, school has made it so that I've only been able to attend Waterloo casuals twice in four months. It's nice to not be the only newbie in the area, but I expect you'll leave me in the dust pretty quickly given my stubborn refusal to learn any combos (/addiction to Borderlands). -

If he loses as fast and as often as I did my first (only) time at gety, he'll have no trouble going through 100 tokens in a night. Pro tip: know how to play fighting games before going to an arcade to play them. -

Story of my life. Taking 1-2 weeks off FGs so I can avoid failing the one piece of academic work I need to finish on my co-op term. That'll totally help my game. -

I should clarify. The entire portion of the Waterloo scene at or above the age of majority. I guess your contribution is just too minor. -

The entire Waterloo scene plays MB. From the first time I met them they've been trying to peer pressure me into taking it up. -

FE13 is either going to be awesome or even more loleasy than FE8 was. So far they've been showing all these flashy new mechanics to make your units even more OP than usual, but there's been no indication that the difficulty of the game will proportionally increase. I hope all these mechanics get the same treatment as the Canto ability in the recent console games; it made mounted units ridiculously good, so they made sure that the CPU players also took advantage of it to really press the attack when you tried to wall off. I'm holding out for a good game after the flop that was Shadow Dragon, but there's still no guarantee this will be released in NA, even though it's confirmed for Europe. -

I wanted to say something really profound about how I was leveling up and totally going to be able to use my quarters for more than one game at Gety, and then I realised that I'd be lying. I think I'm better at ACV than I am at Blazblue, probably because hiding behind buildings is a lot more intuitive than this "blocking" thing I keep hearing about. Also, I will not pay money to the person with the 10 000th post on this thread. [Edit:] Damnit all to hell, Linear! I wanted post #9999! [Re-Edit:] Context is gone. You're all terrible people for removing posts to change the count. That is all. -

I can be cool too! I'll be getting ACV this weekend for PS3! Also, I'm wondering if I should show up to Toryuken next month to throw away my money. I'm only marginally better at remembering that blocking exists than I was in January. Is the experience worth it, or should I try to get to the level where I can consistently lame a single round off of someone before blowing so much money on lost causes? -

Huzzah! Another scrub from the West end! I'm living in Ajax for my co-op job but I'm back in Etobicoke just about every weekend, and with the addition of you, we can almost get a mini-scene going with those of us for whom the nearest ttc station is Kipling. My transit ride to Gety is longer than a trip to cottage country on a long weekend, so your could probably shave before you leave and grow a handlebar by the time you arrive at Gety; unless you have a car/are good enough to win and stay on the cab, Gety may not be the best use of your time. I only went there once, and experienced extremely long waits just to get blown up every time my turn came around (I know no combos, block poorly, mess up inputs no matter what controller I use, and at the time, I had never touched an arcade stick in my life). Add me on PSN if you need a punching bag for your combos. -

This is good for me every Friday except this week (I'm visiting the boys in Waterloo). Since I switch from GO to TTC at Main Street station when I'm going home to Etobicoke from Ajax, you're practically on my way. How far are you from the station? Is it walkable, or do we need to transfer to a bus route? Also, if this happens, I'll have to leave a little early so I can make it to Islington before the last 50 leaves. -

Anywhere south of LG that's not across the lake is better located for me than LG. I'm down for this, but will not be able to bring my own stick, seeing as I don't have one yet. -

Probably next weekend (11th/12th). I'll be dead tired though, since dragon boat fitness tests are that weekend. Defs getting cut from the competitive team. -

Still haven't bought a stick yet with which to un-scrub. Haven't been practicing due to finally reading A Game of Thrones (When is winter coming?). Is it worth it for me to make a detour to Gety tomorrow during my trip back from Ajax, or should I just continue on my merry way to Etobicoke? (Decision also heavily influenced by availability of a ride the rest of the way home) -

So I finally got a new PS3 to replace my fried one. For some reason, I decided to play netplay, still having no main or combos. I managed to get a quantum of wins, at which point I decided it was time to quit. I suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. Someone, teach me to Blazblue? What kind of stick do you have, Zeero? I still haven't gotten one for myself yet, and I'm in the market. Convince me that your stick is worth what you asked for it. And hey, at least if you sell it to me it stays close for when you inevitably regret your decision to leave this community. -

ggs guys. I'll try to come out whenever I'm in Toronto over the next few months, if only to give you guys a punching bag. Just you wait! When I learn to play stick you'll all... probably still body me. Quick question on that topic, actually: what's a good stick for console with the same gate as the ones at Gety (are they square? I was @&%$ing up 4 and 6 inputs all night, getting diagonals; surely they're square)? -

I'm a stone's throw from Burnhamthorpe & Renforth, so I can hear the highway from my house. Are you from Etobicoke, Linear? Mind being my ttc guide to get me to Gety? I honestly have no idea where I'm going. -

Can someone give me a ride to Etobicoke afterwards? If you're taking the 401, then I'm only 5 min out of your way at the 427 junction. If a ride can be secured, I'm in with the most noob Hakumen you'll ever have the misfortune of seeing.
