XRD [Xrd] Chipp Zanuff Gameplay Discussion
GuerrillaTactic replied to AtTheGates's topic in Chipp Zanuff
Generally speaking, Chipp gets damage in the corner and not a great deal anywhere else unless you go for JI combos so you do want to go for corner push or damage mid screen and knock away but (for me at least) it doesn't feel like the game plan was completely thought through. You essentially have one of two options if you hit an opponent. Either 1 - hit them as hard as possible and sacrifice his wake-up game because the opponent will tech in the air and Chipp starts over again OR 2 - do a short combo with tiny damage (I'm talking FDC j.HS, 5S, 2D), retain knock down so you can get another mix-up that won't reward you that much and get very little corner carry. There are a few character where you can get j.HS, 5S, 2D, 623HS (mostly females if I remember correctly) for corner carry and knockdown but his mix-ups seem pretty poor after that because the 623HS has loads of recovery afterwards but I could be wrong. With the patch, maybe that will be addressed but I think it's more likely that the new characters will get the balance treatment. The problem that Chipp has with option 1 is that his buttons aren't quite what they were and in previous games and they don't allow you to maximise on one of his previously greatest strengths, his FDC mix-ups. If you could get damage and then dominate in buttons then you wouldn't be too bad with the loss of knock down, especially if he had his old teleports but he doesn't. Option 2 allows you to utilise Chipp's strengths but you are never rewarded that greatly for it and you aren't really going to win a match solely that way. In essence, you are forced to use invisibilty to make both game plans work side by side but, as time is going on it feels like the cream of the Japanese crop are figuring the invisibilty out and it's becoming a weaker tool. I feel the character is stuck between two positions and doesn't play either one satisfactorly so I have moved away from Chipp because he just doesn't seem that fun anymore but that's just me.- 260 replies

[Xrd] News & (Theoretical) Gameplay Discussion
GuerrillaTactic replied to Shinjin's topic in Guilty Gear General
Clark's grab is a real grab though, it's just that the system is different so that you can do grabs on hit stun as well as neutral state instead of just neutral state. If you want a KoF similarity, it would be more like Ralf's Bareback Vulcan or Yuri's EX running grab. Both are hits but you get the grab animation once the initial hit connects, or at least that's the way it sounds. A couple of quick questions about Chipp. Is instant Air Alpha still in (tiger kneeing the alpha blade so that you get it so close to the ground you can combo off it after you land) and 2, can you do teleport RC of any kind for quick overhead mix-ups? Cheers for anything and everything so far. -
Unfortunately I don't know but we can ask around if you like?

Good to hear you are around liverpool/manchester, Manchester had quite a few older players there that I may be able to get in contact with. There is also a guy from London that goes to uni up near there (he's not too far away essentially) called Tenrai and I've nagged him to join up here (I think he actually joined today) so there will be a few people you can play against if you want me to get in contact with them for you? I should also add that there is a Guilty Gear UK group on Facebook that these guys are a part of so next time you're on Facebook, join yourself up and ask for the Manchunians and they might well respond. If you are in London, it would be good to see you at the Guilty Gear days at HoG or the burst days (if you are more of a BB player). The BB guys are all really nice so I can't see you not enjoying yourself. I'm going to get myself down to HoG a bit more regularly now so I'll try to post up when I'm coming more frequently so you know when you can get some good matches in.

Thanks Yuki, nice to know you are sticking around and let us know when you have the chance to come down to heart of gaming, I'd love to get some games in. Gamester - Essentially, you don't have enough people to play against to keep your interest high and I'm sure the net code isn't helping, not saying it is bad but it isn't optimal or as good as BB's, would you say that was a fair summary? Where abouts in England do you live? You might live near to a small pocket of players, I know some in Manchester and a person in Wales that can get ahold of a few other players so maybe we can help in that way. Just out of curiosity, if you saw a growth in gg being played somewhere that wasn't where you live (I.E. France, America or just another part of the UK) would that make you want to play more? Genuine question, I don't know if people are really effected by things like that. Kujikawa - where abouts are you based in the UK, maybe we can direct you to a small pocket of players? Your interested in playing so all we need to get you is some people to play against really. InWithTheAshes - Is there a simplified version of why you don't play? If it's too painful to go over, don't worry, GG can be......emotional :P Fistmaster049 - So you like the game but you have no drive to play it, is that about right? Or is it just that you have more drive to play BB or Persona? What, in your opinion do BB and P4A have over GG? This could be as simple as character design or music preferences, I'm not judging here at all, I'm just trying to see what the most common issues are so that I can try and solve them. It seems to me at least, that most of you like the game, it's just that you don't have the competition to play against in your area. It's kind of a two fold problem, if there aren't people playing the game (such as joe average) then the perception is that there is no one playing it, potential players that like the game then don't continue playing because there is no one (visable) to play against. Also, without a neutral location to meet with other players you can't really build a player base. I guess the question I need to ask is then, how do you play against your regular BB or P4A competition (House sessions? Online?) and if there was more visable competition (say from HoG streams or any other for that matter), would you guys be more tempted to pick up the game again and show it to your BB sparing partners? If not, what would get you to do that? Thanks to anyone that has the time to read through that and respond :D

Just to let you know, you can stay overnight at HoG on some (if not most) nights, but I advise taking a sleeping bag or alot of energy drinks because your going to need one or the other :D Yuki, if you can, please stick around and chat GG with us, not just for the selfish reasons of making this part of the site look good and for attracting attention but also because it isn't dying down (at least on this part) and I will actively try to get a few more people chatting here, so stick around please. As far as the rest of you guys go (that play BB or AH or P4A or MB), what would help you get into GG or are you guys just not bothered with the game? Is there anything that would make you bothered? I'm just wanting to find out what might be effective ways of getting more people to look at the game positively.
-
LOL, well if there are people that are meeting regularly then letting others know this is happening is probably for the best. It would be geat if you could stay active even if it is just on this part of the forums but if you are busy with other things then that is life. Hope to hear from you soon.

So Yuki, have you tried Pot yet? How are you finding him? Zoular, this is Robocop here, it's just that I started my account here before BulletProof gave me my nickname so I go by this name here. If you do want any Millia stuff though, I'd be more than willing to come down on a wednesday to help out once I get some work finished. Also, I'm not saying people shouldn't come down on a Wednesday, I'd actually really like it if people went down Wednesday AND Friday but we'll see what possible in the future. P.S. Finches is tick as is Ojay.........much homo
-
Well aparently we had another couple of newer players down this Friday (I wasn't unfortunately), a May player and a Venom player, it sounds like things are going a little better. Tough to hear you guys are in middlesborough, I know one of the older fighting games players from around that area (although I think he is more newcastle or possibly consett) but all the same, if you can make it down some time that would be great. So if you were the Venom and May players, what did you think of the place? Would you come down more regularly? And no offense to Zoular, I've met you a few times and you come across as a nice guy (and I'm sure you genuinely are) but apart from Pawndriver there aren't any of the burst guys that 'play' Guilty Gear really so we kind of have to arrange our meeting according to what's best for us. Not saying people shouldn't come down on Wednesdays for extra games (I personally think they should), just that if you can make it down 1 day a week, come on the day when there are 8 people to play against and not 2. If you play BB or AC or P4A as well though, by all means come down of weds to get more games in. P.S. If yopu want any of those Potemkin lessons you are more than welcome Zoular, you can actually use a grappler that's good in GG :P

Where abouts do you live?

So guys, just wondering if any of you have heard of Heart of Gaming yet? There are a few people that go there and play GG but I was wondering if there was any interest I could wrangle from here too.

Just saw a combo in recent Nico Nico match video which I think can be used to expand on the original combos section. vs. Johnny S, 6P, S, 6P, 2D, 236S, 236K, S, j.K(1 hit), j.K(1 hit), j.K(2 hits), j.K(2 hits), j.D knocks down, is easy and does 158 damage. Edit. I tried it multiple times on standing and crouching, crouching is very picky, it does work but it whiffs quite a bit as well, more testing required before it gets put into the original combo section. Pkay so I've done a fair bit of testing and I found something that works consistently on standing and crouching Johnny. S, 6P, S, 6P, 2D, 236S, 236K, S, j.P, j.K(1hit), , j.K(2hits), , j.K(2hits), j.D, alpha. There isn't much trickery to this but what I have found is that the S which launches after the 236K needs to be as fast as possible, I find double tapping helps in this situation. The other sticking point is that you need to delay the first j.P, if you do it too early Johnny drops out of second j.K(2hits) and if you do it too late J.D whiffs but as long as you get that first delayed j.P right the whole combo flows nicely and it really isn't that hard (me thinks it could be put on the first page now :D )

Decided to do it piece by piece and update this post as I go, if it needs a new thread I will make one once I'm done and maybe these original posts can be deleted or something. I might do a character video if I can get my recording stuff to work properly but you gus will have to wait a month or two before I get that sorted. iAA set-up notes Sol hit box is a little thin in the air. Offensive set-up Front set-up: 2K, 5S, 22HS FRC, j.HS 1 hit 2K, 5S pause, 5S, 22HS FRC, j.K 1 hit Rear set-up: 2K, 5S pause, 5S, 22D FRC, j.K 1 hit Punishment Ground Viper - 6HS, iAA BR - SB, 5S, 5S, 5HS, iAA BB - SB, 5S, 5S, 5HS, iAA Ky Wide but thin hit box, falls fast Offensive set-up: Front set-up: 2K, 5S, 22HS FRC, j.HS 1 hit Note - only works at MAXIMUM range. It is easier to hit the combo from 2K, 5S pause, 5S, 22HS FRC, j.HS 1 hit Rear set-up: 2K, 5S, 22D FRC, j.HS 1 hit 2K, 5S pause, 5S, 22D FRC, j.HS 1 hit Punishment Vapour Thrust more to be added Johnny Nothing seems to continue the combo after iAA, 5S, 5HS (but in good news the match-up is in our favour without the iAA :D ) Jam Very wierd hitbox due to the trailing legs as she is falling to the ground. Offensive set-up Front set-up: 2K, 5S, 22HS FRC, j.HS 1 hit Note - this works outside point blank range, try not to be too close when you use this one. 2K, 5S, 5S, 22HS FRC, j.K 1 hit Rear set-up: 2K, 5S, 22D FRC, j.K 1 hit 2K, 5S pause, 5S, 22D FRC, j.K 1 hit Punishment 623K and 236K leave Jam in crouched stated, her dragon only leaves her vulnerable for a frame or two in crouched so you have to be quick with that one. Just a note here for Jam, due to her wierd hit box she is very tricky to knock down this is why she requires slight adjustment on your ranging. If you don't care about getting knock down though, then the range shouldn't be too much of an issue for you. Slayer Decent sized hit box, relatively easy to do combos against. Offensive set-up Front set-up: 2K, 5S, 22HS FRC, j.HS 1 hit 2K, 5S pause, 5S, 22HS FRC, j.K 1 hit Rear set-up: 2K, 5S, 22D FRC, j.K 1 hit 2K, 5S pause, 5S, 22D FRC, j.K 1 hit Punishment BBU more to be added Potemkin Huge hit box, relatively easy to combo against Offensive set-up Front set-up: 2K, 5S, 22HS FRC, j.HS 1 hit 2K, 5S pause, 5S, 22HS FRC, j.HS 1 hit Rear set-up: 2K, 5S, 22D FRC, j.HS 1 hit 2K, 5S pause, 5S, 22D FRC, j.HS 1 hit Punishment more to be added May Slightly wider hit box than most females but floats a little high in the air Offensive set-up Front set-up: 2K, 5S, 22HS FRC, j.HS 1 hit 2K, 5S pause, 5S, 22HS FRC, j.K 1 hit Rear set-up: 2K, 5S pause, 5S, 22D FRC, j.K 1 hit Punishment 3K - 6P(CH), 6HS, iAA Verticle Dolphin (S and HS varieties)

been working on iAA combos and set-ups recently, should be able to post up a few things in a week or maybe less. If it takes me a week though, expect it to be relatively comprehensive (although if you guys find any mistake in there please inform me).
