[Xrd] News & (Theoretical) Gameplay Discussion
Casper replied to Shinjin's topic in Guilty Gear General
yeah the stuff mike said (thank you for your impressions, they were very insightful) reinforces a lot of the stuff i've been feeling just watching the game. it seems to me that yrc negatively effects the neutral game in a pretty substantial way. the speed is clearly dialed back, which isnt the end of the world i guess, but the general pacing seems to be off in a way i cant put my finger on. i really dislike the silly SC2 GI game of chicken blitz shield puts people in. overall though, i don't think this game looks bad at all (maybe just a bit underwhelming from my perspective) and although im not particularly interested in playing it at the moment i am very hopeful that they will improve on the system in the future. of course i mean no offense to those of you who like it as it is but i really hope they aren't afraid to make big changes to future iterations. -

It's kinda hard for me to imagine what baiken will be like in xrd from a combo perspective without j.d or tatami frc. -

Yeah I'm not sure how venom ought to deal with the chains... Not saying it's a problem I just don't know. Maybe h carcass raid yrc and use coverage to get balls moving or raw dark angel or something? I know qv absorbs projectiles but as already stated I think the chains function as limbs. Any thoughts? -

well now there are characters with extremely beneficial yrcs. for example chipps teleport... for 25 meter he has something that in my opinion is more powerful than most frcs in +r. there is apparently no getting around some characters getting a better reward for the meter they spend. the old system was obviously flawed but i think this new one has a lot of the baggage of the old system with some extra nonsense on top. im actually not terribly opposed to it and i think the game in general seems cool but i do hope arcsys is willing to experiment liberally with the system in the future. also the speed. watching a +r match after a xrd match is like some fast forward shit. sorry for being so whiny...im done now. -

first off let me say that i think sol is completely fine as he is but also that fafnir looks ridiiiiicccccccculous. on block you crank hella guard meter, on regular hit you take them midscreen (possibly further?) straight to the corner, on CH you take them to the corner and also get a huge combo etc. sol gets better rewards off fafnir than something like slayers pilebunker without any of the risk. it seems like whenever sol is in neutral in xrd you may as well throw it out... the worst case scenario is you whiff but it recovers pretty quickly. -

yo that matchup chart may be complete nonsense...but i still agree that faust probably only loses one matchup. -
apparently ramlethal can yrc her beam super...not sure how useful that could be seeing as how its 75 meter but it still seems interesting. dont know if anyone else noticed but it seems like her sword spin super is more or less dark angel and i've seen several players use it as such ie: doing it after a knockdown at midscreen for huge corner carry/mixup. examples of beam yrc and dark angel-eqsue use of her other super are here at 5:17 http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm23347557 and here at 8:00 http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm23347708

http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm23308469 in this video koichi plays ramlethal in the way i think she probably ought to be played: running away, setting up swords to be annoying, zoning with j.d (i think thats what the multi-directional air move is?) and her fireball, fishing for random counter hits off swords etc. its pretty cool and its kinda unique to xrd which has been pretty rushdown-centric. it looks like its hard for her to get a reasonable combo at midscreen off a non-counter hit. -

man i dont know why you think shes gonna be a rushdown char or anything comparable to jam... i think she has tools to control space and run setplay type stuff but i dont really see her being a get up in your face and push lots of buttons type.i think destin was right on with the bridget comparison although her placed swords dont seem nearly as flexible as the yo-yo at least from what i've seen. i also really doubt that vertical swipe thing from the placed sword hits overhead/therefore leads to an unblockable. i'd like to think arcsys isnt stupid enough to allow that kind of move to hit high. on the aesthetic aspects of picking a main: a weird thing about FG's and especially "anime" games is that it seems like a lot of people pick mains based on who is the most moe...like there are dudes who will only play cute girls in absolutely every game. this kind of weirds me out but of course its totally harmless and a lot of them are super rad players. -

it seems like all the bb/p4a/people new to gg plan on picking up valentine. i wonder if its because of her aesthetic design? she certainly is more modern in a kinda bb sense. maybe her actual gameplay design in more like some of the newer arcsys games, though i dont know. do you think the older guilty gear characters are aesthetically dated in some way or lacking some of the kind of more gimmicky/very specific mechanical stuff that could possibly turn off newer arcsys players to them? -

i guess a lot of people see different things out of bedman...i've seen a lot of people talking about his potential for pressure which i think is definitely impressive but when i see him i'm mostly thinking of him as a character with traditional zoning/keep away tools kind of unique to gg. -
