[Xrd] News & (Theoretical) Gameplay Discussion
Layer replied to Shinjin's topic in Guilty Gear General
I always found that most people who originally hated 3rd Strike, now gives it some respect. Looking back compared to what we have today. I should've probably worded it better, like: "3rd Strike is often a contender for best SF. Right up there with Alpha 3." Anyway, who gives a shit about garbage SF (Remy for SFV); I find it funny that what gets me most excited from those scans are the images of story mode. Finally a decent story mode for GG? And gawd do I hope whoever they got dubbing this do a good job. I'll play in Japanese, but story English. But they probably will never be able to reach over 10 years of expectations of what I'd imagine the GG cast will sound like. -

Ah, but the most obvious the counter point to that is 3rd Strike which is majorly agreed upon to be the best SF and has nearly an entirely different and new cast. Of course because of that different cast the game did not do well because people's favorite characters weren't in it and they never picked it up. Or you can blame the Parry mechanic for being too difficult, whichever. I'm personally always open for something different and change. New characters, new mechanics, new take on things. I can understand however people's frustration when a character or style of play they devoted themselves to playing for years is no longer viable. But a part of fighting games is being adaptable I say, but hey. -
Me and I'm sure Beautiful Dude will gladly do some more UNIEL commentary again. We did a pretty mediocre job last time!

Elphelt definitely looks like she has some fun mechanics. Still not keen on her design, but I main Bullet in BB and her outfit is the dumbest shit. And her's and Sin's theme sound pretty sweet. And I actually just got a one month card for PS+. Hmmm.... There's actually 12 people from the old roster! -

Wait where's the dog? Is it behind that bush? -
Never a calm day in the FGC.

Wow, some really drastic changes going on. Mind can't comprehend. Being able to follow up after D sounds amazing. Everything else I'm not too sure yet. Need more videos.

Whoa, BB's pretty early now. Looking forward to breaking in the new toilet! Oh and UNIEL, that'll be fun.

With the way Arc has been handling their DLC business with BB and P4AU, I'm starting to suspect they're holding off on several GG Veterans on purpose just to sell them as DLC the first week and not because they can't finish them in time. -

Alright guys, this antsy attitude that's prevalent in the last couple of pages of the thread isn't helping anything. -

MK9's story mode is probably my favorite story mode of any fighting game ever, with CS behind. I'm actually a big VN reader so I didn't have much problems with how BB did their story mode and I think CS was able to pull it off pretty well because everything was still so vague about what was going on and the whole mystery of the time looping which made it fun to keep reading, until CP and holy crap I can barely get myself through it. They use soo many words to say so little and I get a very small sense of progression as I play it and maybe I've grown tired with their over use of esoteric jargon. Though that's not to say I prefer the way GG has done their stories before where it was meet somone, exchange two lines of dialogue, fight, repeat. The in house localization might have had an effect on it as well, which keeps me worried about Xrd and how ASW will handle it. I just think it's a shame to have these awesome 3D models and not use them to their fullest extent. But we'll see. -

That was one thing I was a little disappointed in, the mirroring of the characters when they switch sides. I thought it would be cool if they re adjusted their poses depending on the side, but everyone just seems to be ambidextrous. -

That's actually what I meant, but I guess I'm just an idiot who uses words that sound smart but I I don't know the meaning of. Video game cocktail parties. -

Oh I know they're are two totally different aspects of game development. I'm just surprised that a Japanese company outsourced an American engine. I know some japanese companies do that like Capcom and Namco and Suda 51, but today many companies are still stuck in the stereotypical old fashion idea of relying only on themselves. But that's changing as the years go by that's for sure. Will make their life easier in the end I believe. -

I don't know about them outsourcing. Arc seems pretty steady on the idea of them doing the majority of things in-house, with the whole localizing and all. Though I'm still bewildered everytime I watch the announcement trailer and I see Unreal Engine pop up. -

I'm actually quite content with Millia and Zato's new VS song. I feel it's a nice progression for them in terms of story and dynamic: longing and abit regretful. The only song I'm disappointed in is May's new jam. Just not as catchy. -

Yeah it was only the second day when I got my shirts and they told me they were already running low. I'm sure they weren't expecting the kind of welcoming they got, that's for sure. Didn't ask them if they would have more for upcoming events though. This definitely happened to me many times. Made me very sad. -

Oh my gawd guys. I don't even know how to put my excitement down into words. The game looks fucking beautiful in person. Videos do not do it justice, the shitty videos I took don't do it justice. You really have to experience it for yourself. The game was really easy to jump into despite the fact I'm a stick player and haven't got much experience with the PS4 controller. I was doing Ky's Greed Saver air combo and Millia's air juggle within the second round of the match of using them. The new RCs felt really cool to do! Had no idea what I was doing and was just wasting all my meter, but I can already feel so many possibilities now that I felt the slow down myself. I can also vouch for Ramletheral's IK being the most hype; I always asked one of my random opponents if they could do there IK and I would always step back and see everyone in line eye's glued to the screen when they saw an IK. The most awe inducing one was definitely Ramletheral. I can say that it in fact does feel slower, but it was really a slight difference for me and it didn't stop how amazing it felt. The dust transition as well could be a bit jarring at first, but I never dropped a combo because of it. I kept reminding myself in line to try out Blitz Shield, but I kept forgetting it as soon as I started playing. Unfortunately Aksys seems to be very in the dark about everything: - Regarding having sticks at EVO, they seemed to be very passionate about bringing sticks to the event. However they are waiting for responses from Arc as well as the stick manufacture to provide the equipment and gear for their demo stations. They gave me the whole spiel on how it's still early in development and the console is still new so there's isn't much to work off of. - The will also likely have a special limited edition. They are in discussions with Arc about it and what to include and such. - They have no idea about the PS3 version and how it runs or anything, for Arc has only given them PS4 versions. Lets just trust it does run 60fps. - And the demo was the same as the one at EVO, so there were no main menu screen for options or training or anything. Just jumped straight to the character select screen. - They did sell these Xrd t-shirts that said "Guilty Gear Xrd -Sign-" in front, three Xs on the back, and "Heaven" on one sleeve and "Hell" on the other. Needless to say, I'm gonna be wearing this to every GG related event from here on out. Gave out posters too with every purchase! Though I was surprised to find a lot of Xrd related artwork in Artist Alley and bought a shit ton there. So unfortunately, I've come back empty handed. Sorry fellas. But you can atleast bunch me with those who can vouch for Xrd. Believe the hype. Xrd is going to be fucking amazing. -

On my way to Anime Expo. If you got any questions you want me to ask Aksys let me know. I'll try to get some decent footage too. -

Chipp's stage should've been the white house. -
Aw, I'm sad I didn't get to make it to our last for awhile. Damn birthday parties. Best of luck to everyone going to Evo! Make sure to use the Cat Chair Soniti!

Exactly. Whats the point of asking Aksys if they don't know. -

Interesting, that eliminates one of my biggest question on whether Troy Baker and Liam O'Brien are reprising as Sol and Ky. Though I still intend to ask them whether they'll have a special limited release version with artbooks and such. -

I will make sure not to ask them that for I already know Aksys will likely have no comment since they don't develop the games. And we know you don't like the fact they don't have a big roster, we get it man. You don't need to bring it up every couple pages in this thread. Maybe I should've made my original post more clear: let me know what you want me to ask Aksys. So keep in mind Aksys won't likely know the full details of certain aspects and are probably gonna be more incline to answer localization questions.
